Vehicle Safety Recall R1306 Y61 Patrol Accelerator Pedal

Recommended Posts

Anyone received one of these safety recalls in the post in the last couple of days? I have a 2008 CRD (ZD30).

Appears to be accelerator sending incorrect signal to ECM and resulting in vehicle going into "Failsafe mode"   Limp?

I have hade the vehicle a couple of years now and never experienced the problem.

I think the pedal mechanism drives/turns a type of Potentiometer that sends a variable signal/electrical charge to the ECM.

Anyone know anything about this?

What are the defects?

Nissan has identified that due to lateral load on the accelerator pedal, the contact pressure of the sensor brush to a terminal on the circuit board of the subject sensor may deteriorate. As a result, the engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate, and the vehicle could go into the fail-safe mode, which would cause the accelerator operation control to limit vehicle acceleration.

In extreme cases when the engine is idling or the vehicle is coming to a halt, air intake may become insufficient and the engine may stop running.

What are the hazards?

A sudden loss or reduction in power may pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users.

VSR Nissan Patrol Y61 R1306

What is Nissan shyting its pants about is that if the accelerator pedal signal is lost ECm will go to idle mode which will/could result in sudden deceleration which can cause accidents especially if it happens without warning in heavy traffic so liabilities are enormous.

What is more interesting is the part where they note that this can cause the engine to stall which brings the steering and brake assistance failure with another serious accident.

There have been hints about this recall for a few months and if you've gone to Nissan dealers and ask about it they'd deny all knowledge of it. Typical dishonest Japanese behaviour/response!

Cheers
