Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)
Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

Hello, my name is Anibal. I live in Colombia South America. I am currently having problems with my 2004 Nissan Patrol transmission. It suddenly stays in one gear (4th) and doesn’t change any more. I take it to a workshop, they scan it, erase the codes, starts working ok, but after some time the problem appears again. Currently it has 110,000 km. Does someone in the group might have an idea of what could be happening? Regards, Anibal

I'm looking for a wiring diagram and/or some pointers, on why the heater fan does not switch on, at any speed. When its switched on, the A/C light does not illuminate either. Any ideas or any wiring diagrams, so I can somehow trace it? It looks like the fan has 12V on one of the pins and the fan spins up, when powerwed by 12v.

Does anyone recognize this bracket. Comes off top half of zd30, I removed this somewhere along the way with replacing my head, I had it sitting with wiring harness so I’m guessing it mounts somewhere to clip harness on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers Keith

Hello This is my first post. I'm from europe (scandinavia) but easily its the australian market that has the most experience with patrols. I have not found exactly the answers on route to go for 4.88 gears. So therefore i'll ask here for more information. My 2006 Gu4 zd30Di Auto has gone 280.000km and i bought it a year ago. It was very slow and like in limp home mode all the time. Only recently i installed Tillix and Dawes kit, egr delete, removed the oil breether pipe from intake. After adjusting the boost and spoolup, peaking at 17 psi, and changed fuel filter and oil/filter, the engine is transformed. Going from a snail to become at least a 150hp engine by t…

Sorry, I put that topic in to General discussion but rather should be here, My flagship : Patrol Y61 2003 ZD30 270000km And now, problem... not first not last... I’ve changed oil 3000 km ago with 1mm more than max and up to this day it was same - zero oil lost. Last week, First day of trip we did hard and long downhill, I used reductor and mostly on 1st gear without brake. when we finished, under the mountain my Y61 on idle shown bright grey smoke from exhaust - something super new - there was no smoke so far, almost zero, and never on idle. But on higher rpms it was ok, so I continued travel, with few more incidents on idl…

Hi guys, I purchased a second hand patrol that came with aftermarket Mongoose keyless entry and it wasn’t working properly. I replaced batteries on both remotes and it wouldn’t pick up a signal unless the remote was within 10cm. So I decided to purchase another unit off eBay and connected it to the vehicle. It picks the signal perfectly BUT does not lock/unlock the car? The unit itself clicks when pressing buttons and the flasher lights working fine. Central locking is working fine when locking/ unlocking driver door manual. I have connected the White/black wire on the unit to the Blue/red wire, and the White wire with blue wire on the car. I know the central locking w…

For anyone wishing to fit and tune a Dawes valve system. The following shows an in cab needle setup and single or dual Dawes valves. Single Dawes setup with early model vacuum surge canister, the tank is not really needed and often one of the barbs will break off so bypassing is OK, if you don't have one (around 2002/2003 it was deleted anyway) just go straight to the vacuum take off point under the IC This is the dual dawes setup, the same info as above applies to the surge canister, the solenoid that controls which dawes is selected is setup to default to the high boost side if the solenoid fails, this could be handy when doing a lot of towing This is the s…

Hi all, So a few weeks back I bought my first GU, engine has had a full rebuild with receipts & about 50,000kms driven since rebuild was done. EGR blocked, 3" echaust fitted and dyno sheets showing boost up to be 18psi I believe on stock boost solenoid. Now, at first all I had was the usual limp mode from the EGR being blocked as well as the check engine light from the EGR, the boost would spike up to 20psi and be in a limp mode until you let off the accelerator and back on again, it was annoying for long trips on the highway but still driveable. So my plan was to get a HPD manual boost controller fitted to fix the limp mode issues. But I noticed one day tha…

Hey. First post here! I want to share a quick video I did when fixing the fan speed resistor on my 2007 GU. The symptom was that the aircon/heater fan suddenly would only work on full blast. The lower settings (1-3) were just non-functional. I learned that there is a resistor under the glove bx that is responsible for these settings. It has a fused link that can deteriorate with age and burn out. Its just a matter of replacing this link to get the fan speeds working again. Finding the resistor is easy and you can see where it goes at the end of the video. Check it out and let me know what you think....

Glow plugs replaced, fuel pressure relief valve replaced, fuel filter replaced - system bled of air. starts with starter spray but will travel approx 500 metres before shutting down. have attached a video with car running with some help from spray showing fuel line (no bubbles), OBD2 scanner showing fuel rail pressure and also truck trying to start on it s own. hoping someone might have a clue, cheers simon (will let it settle and check for air in lines in an hour or so) fuel o…

I have a 2003 Nissan Patrol, ST GUIII 5 speed Manual, Diesel Turbo 3.0L with 310,000kms and all of a sudden there was a shimmie/shudder/vibration through the steering wheel. I checked tyres and yes due for a change so bought 4 new All Terrain TOYO's. Included was balance and wheel alignment. Same issue remained. It usually happens at 40 kph, 60 kph and 80 kph, but not always. I took it to a steering and suspension specialist and initially they tried by just replacing Leading Arm Bushes, The Front Body Mount - Bushing Kit Bumper, and the Superpro Panhard bar bush. No improvement. They then replaced the Steering Damper, Front and Rear Shock Absorbers. If just rolli…

Hi out there. I am stuck in Arkaroola ,Gammon Ranges, SA with a bad fuel leak on top of the engine. Seems to be the fuel return line on injector 2 as it is not under pressure but fills the cup underneath in minutes of driving. I need to drive hard as i am towing a caravan over rough corrugated roads so i need to load the engine to maintain 80kmh and when i do this the fuel flows out. Any suggestions. It appears after talking to mechanics here that it may be a simple oring seal one one or more of the return line points. Is this an easy fix as i do have a box full of black orings that may fit. they could help me get the 100+ kms to a mechanic at Copley. The mechanics here a…

Hi, are sealed bearings available for Y61 rear axle? Thinking of using for an offroad camper upgrade to have both discs and drums for the handbrake. As i will only be using the hub end, there will be no diff. lubrication. Plan on cutting where it is currently welded and reducing the axle length leaving a short stub. Red lines show intended cuts. Looking for a more robust solution to this:
