Hi, We are going to the cape in Aug and leaving from Brisbane for 4 weeks. Does anyone have any must see or do things while we are up there. We are looking at the doing the old TT (goes without saying) creb track, bloomfield track, frenchmans line, loyalty beach, day trip to T island etc, Also thinking of crossing the jardine and not using the ferry. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Crossing Jardine river without ferry I guess you gonna see everything you'll need to see if you make it across.

Best trip I have ever done. Very jealous. Do lots of research it's ok to look at other peoples itineraries. But planning yourself with google maps etc will mean when you get there, you will have a better idea of what interests you. Don't forget old coach rd as another historical/ iconic track to add to your list. You will have a blast!

More.. From about may town up... The west coast is far nicer than the east... Less wind blown on the coast too. 4 weeks is a good time. So you will have the time to get around.. Vryilla point is with a look If you decide to cross the Jardine, check carefully for crocs first. Then check again. If you get stuck or someone in your party does, they can make the recovery awkward... If you are travelling solo.. I would advise against it. but it's your call.

thanks Fathom, I take it you have crossed the jardine river? And yes there are two vehicles. Another question how did you go for fuel and supplies? I only have the 90 ltr standard tank. Also how well sign posted if at all is it up there? are paper maps ok or should I be looking at getting a hema or equivalent?

There is fuel about every 2-300klm. That sounds close but you will need to consider where you are going... The main exception would be the Starke track... Cape Melville etc But otherwise easy to access. Supplies the same. Just you pay more for food and fuel... Bit like Fraser Island prices... It's pretty well posted, a combination of paper, a good gps and paying attention to where you are and you can't go wrong... Navigation wise. Hmm I will tell you the truth about crossing the Jardine... We drove to the crossing.. South side... Looked at it, decided as a group to take the ferry... I reversed in to take a smart Alec shot to say my wheels have been in the Jardine.. The water is flowing... By the time we took a couple of pics.. My back axle was buried like a submarine... One of my mates gave me a quick snatch out... When we looked at the north side of the crossing, it's weedy, dark and murky.. Not like the south side.. I am glad I lost the vote to and not cross it... No way would you see a croc in there... One bloke did try just after we left. We met up with him again that night .. He was still dripping wet.. Didn't make it, but we heard of plenty that did... I stress.. Heard.. Not saw....

Lol no worries... Let's just keep the Jardine crossing a secret.... I do have a pic of the northern entry exit somewhere too. But A quick internet search should bring up a heap.. We heard people were doing the crossing. But we saw no tyre fresh tracks on the northern side.
