Does a 98 series 1 GU have a transponder built into the key?

 

It depends if you have NATS (Nissan Anti-Theft System).

Since you are not referring to which vehicle exactly (type/trim/engine model e.g.)

If your have a red blinking indicator on top of the dash near windscreen when ignition is off than yes the key has the immobilizer transponder/chip in it.

i have a gu 98 2.8 td st and it has a blinking light on the dash, there is also a nats sticker in the glove box, and your key should have a red plastic tag on it, if you have none of these you dont have nats,
