Is it just me?

I've been keeping in touch with the Patrol4x4 site since things went a bit tits up and it now seems to be back on line, but I notice that there seems to be a lot of really angry people about. I haven't totally given up on Patrol4x4, but I'm enjoying what is analogous to discovering a new beer that tastes pretty good.

It's not just that; I've noticed on a few threads where people are getting quite angry on specific topics (I don't want to point anyone out), whereas, previously they might get excited, but still remain level-headed. I think this forum will need to build its own cred before there's significant movement, unless the Patrol4x4 truly dies.

Yeah, it is getting emotional over there, I haven't been trolling there like usual so not really keeping up with the current attitudes of people that aren't posting in the threads about the forum being 'fixed'. Well it sounds like the owner has now decided to take action, interesting times ahead as he could just pull the plug and let the domain licence expire.

The obsession with the place has me stuffed.

There seems to be this misnomer of all this valuable info there but I severly question who ever searches for it instead of posting a new question straight out. I have seen the same things asked several times in the time I have been there which would make all this valueable info rather a moot point.

Why the mods have done all the work they purport ( how many times did they try to contact someone who wasn't replying anyway?) I'm stuffed If I know why they didn't come here or at very least start their own forum. Seems from what is coming out that they never had anything to base all their feel good " trust us we'll fix it" BS they were feeding the members. Probably explain why I got such a hostile reaction when I dared ask how the forum was going to be secured.

Anyway, looks like they may have some hope now.

Be a shame if all the unmitagated arse kissing that's going on were to go to waste.

Patrol4x4 has been going for a long time, so it's established itself and has had a pretty good reputation. Also, I think it was the first purely Patrol based forum, so one didn't have to put up with the usual crap from other brand owners like in the generic forums. So for it to die because the originator lost interest, for whatever reason, would be somewhat sad. I guess it's also been a bit of a victim of its own success and these recent incidents have made things worse.

part of the debacle might be that i think i read somewhere the official owner of the forum is not actually Terry, but his ex-wife. . . . she may very well make things impossible for the forum if she is spiteful or whatever. -im not sure on the details of the breakup.

But as far as iv been able to research, the vBulletin p4x4.com uses is from early 2009! without the registered owner doing updates, it WILL die. even if it didn't get anymore infections. . . . it will continue crashing.

Iv also found in my research that that version of vBulletin is very unstable, easily hacked, and quite outdated now. . . . admin could easily "steal" the forum and its content, as could many other people. . . . but its VERY illegal. terry(or whoever the registered owner is) has to officially hand it over, or nothing can be done. the forum in its current state is untenable.

-have to remember when that software was made, a digital pic was 300kb, a fast pc was a pentium 600, and a sick net connection was 512kb per sec.

we spank that on our phones now.
