I took early retirement last year, so I have a bit of free time on my hands at the moment. I want to start looking for some work but, around here, finding hen's teeth is easier than finding work.

Thanks. I don't think I'd want to run anything full time like that and the market is saturated anyway. But I like hands on stuff and building things, so small, one-off, jobs would be great, but unlikely.

I did my first test drive (for the wood hunting trip today) with the tablet et al attached to the dash and it worked a treat. I still haven't quite worked out what I want to use as a support for the part that sits over the pen holder, but I used a big blob of bluetack in lieu of the foam bits, which held the tablet off the dash and I had no issues whatsoever, so that may end up being the final solution. The unit was rock steady over the most jarring of spots on the road and never looked like moving. The tablet holds fast in the frame like grim death and nothing else looked like coming undone. The only real issue that I had was attaching the zip ties to the vents; this was a right royal pain and I'm going to have to find an easier solution. The zip ties held very firmly, but getting in to attach them had me swearing; we need zip ties that curve. I have a few ideas, but I always like things to look clean and subtle, so some further testing needed.

If I'm understanding right, what about some velcro strips in Lieu of the foam/ Blu tack?

You can get it in strips with self adhesive backing and when the sides are brought together it does provide some cushioning.

All that's needed is for something to support the foot of the tablet holder (the small foot that support the bottom of the tablet) so that the sides of the tablet don't rub on the dash. You need something to sit inside the pen holder on which the foot of the holder can rest, so that it holds it up and prevents any sideways movement (which was pretty minimal anyway). The bluetack worked better than I anticipated, so I might look at something to make it look a bit better than a blob, maybe some form of roll that sits completely inside the pen holder, with a piece of bluetack in the middle as a cushion.

Hi Ray,

Excellent idea, I have been thinking about how to do this for some time. To make the bottom footing of the bracket more secure I was thinking of using a two part rubber potting compound to mould around the foot. You could use some modeling clay to make a dam in the pen holder, spray some release agent onto the exposed surface and pour in a two part mix of potting compound.

What is the model of the holder you are using?

Nice job. No good for us blokes with double din stereos though,but urs looks very cool.

Well I've just bought a 7" tablet for the road, and remembered this thread..

I also have no 2nd din point due to the stereo and UHF filling those spots, but I do have a ciggi try with no smokers to use it..

So I'm going to try mount it there using the timber block idea.

Either that or make a clamp or plate mount coming from the Jesus bar.
