GUIDE STATUS - IN DRAFT. Please check back for the full guide after I update this status. ------- Howdy all. Just reserving this thread so that I can post an easy to follow, step by step guide to installing the Nissan Anti Detonation mods for all to use. I'm just gathering all of the photos from my camera, taking some new photos and updating the parts and price list. ,.......... The Nissan Patrol 3L di engine can have a few modifications to make it more reliable and avoid the dreaded 'grenade'. This thread is not here to debate the reliability of the engine, or compare it to the 4.2 or petrol variants, its here as an easy to follow guide for anyone inte…

I bought a Supercheap Ridge Ryder 12000lbs winch when they were having one of their 35% off sales. Paid $565 for it. This thread is about how I made my own winch mount, installed the winch and made some 3mm plate protection under the radiator and extended it to replace the factory plastic air deflector. I did this to fit with the factory alloy bumper bar. I started with the idea that I wanted to use as much metal scrap as I could find in my shed. Main component is a length of 50 x 75 x 3mm wall RHS with bits of 6mm flat bar added to it. What I wanted here was to have the winch mounted 25mm lower than the usual universal mount plates that people often use w…

I've noticed elsewhere that these TB45E turbo builds usually generate a fair bit of interest so I thought I'd add mine and explain with pics how I went about it. I've had this vehicle for 7 years now and I've gone through the usual stages of extractors + 2.5" exhaust system and finally added an Xede piggyback to make some changes to fuel & timing. Each of these changes adds a little more performance but, as I'm hoping to hook up a fairly heavy caravan one day for the traditional lap, I really thought I needed a bit more power in reserve to cover those overtaking situations that many talk about. I had thought about selling it and getting a 4.8 but the old 4.5s aren…

How's it going guys Today marked the beginning of my conversion. Unfortunately I was unable to begin until 3 this Arvo as I had work to do on a few hiluxs. So I pretty much got 2 solid hours of work done. I dropped all the fluids, removed the dump pipe, removed radiator and shrouds, air box, fuel filter and housing, starter motor, fan, power steering reservoir, decanted the aircon gas and removed most of the wiring harness. Unfortunately I ran out of light so back at it tomorrow morning. Hoping to have the motor out by lunch. Heaps more pics tomorrow

Hi All, I am currently looking into Upgrading the ZD30 Manual Setup to a L98/6L80 Auto setup and was wondering what people opinions on this setup were, or if there is anyone around Canberra with this setup or similar if I could have a look and a ask a few questions about their setup. Cheers Brenden

ATTENTION! Due to the Photobucket phenomenal cockup all images in this thread are now lost! I hope those swines just disappear in to the dust bin of history.... I'll try to repost images and restore as time permits but it will be time consuming process. Sorry! Lets face it, cruise control installation in GU Patrol is a bit of nasty joke, the factory setup is just pathetic and until now most aftermarket units were overpriced with no self instalation option. Finally though things are changing and what appears to be a hope for us there are number of kits available on E-bay which are tailored to Nissan Patrols GU series from 2000-2008. Available w…

I am new (as a member) to the forum however followed it for long time. I have read the post from Dronus4x4 on nads mods which I found excellent -best I have seen for a long time however I am after the same for the 4.2. I am in the process of fitting a new 3" exhaust to the vehicle ( it has had one from new) and having pulled everything off I felt it the best time to do some mods. Does anyone know where I can find a post that discusses the mods and issues with the 4.2 (2004 model) I look forward to your i put. Roland Cox

Hi fellas, I'm heading down to the Victorian High Country in December & I wanted to make sure I have the ability to recover myself from any predicamant that I may get myself into. A set of Max Tracks or TREDS was high on my wish list but the price they were asking for them I just couldn't justify, so I came up with these, I call them "Ricks Tracks", total cost $70 (8 water drain covers from 'Masters', and some zip ties. I tied 2 together side by side as I couldn't get them any wider than 100mm, to give a total width of 200mm X 1100mm long, much the same as the Max Tracks & TREDS, but for less than 1/4 of the cost for 4 treads! The more zip ties you put on the bet…

Recently, I started to hear odd whistling noises under the bonnet when the engine was relatively cold and under high boost, and also when warm and under high boost. After a bit of investigation, I discovered that my intecooler was affected by cracks where the cooler pipes attach to the header tank. This is not uncommon and mine has probably been exacerbated by my intercooler fan attachment. This is probably due to not being entirely careful as to how I tensioned the bolts attaching the fan to the intercooler, causing stress, as evidenced by the fact that the cracks have occurred at opposite corners of the intercooler. Here's a shot of one crack, just visible where you …

Hay guys. After putting some thought into it.. This is the outcome. It is similar to others out there but different. It fits up using 25mm SHS between the door and wheel carrier, but being one piece it is stronger than the GQ itself.. So I have made it so a mud slinging 35" sporters can fit to when completely collapsed, I'm running 31x10.5's and have 35mm of clearance between the pole and the wall. (I can make shorter collapsed heights but it will affect overall height.) At the 35" hight it extends to 300mm above the roof level for a good all round angle. Any questions feel free to ask. (I have over 10mtrs of steel left if you would like one.) Thank…

* Built this some time ago and decided to move the thread over here * Hi, Im currently in the middle of building my own turbo kit for my TD42 leafy ute. First I started off with a pre loved 2nd hand kit that utilized a Garrett t25 turbo. I decided to pull it down and check the turbo for play only to find that all the pipe work was kaput. In these series of pictures you can see the old pipes and the new ones I had made. 1) The compressor housing inlet pipe: The old one was very poorly made out of 1mm mild steel, the weld joining the pipe to the flange was pooled on top and had no penetration, causing it to crack. Next to it you can see the new pipe I …

Hey guys, So about 3 months ago I picked up some 35 claws on -44 15x10 rims. They look awesome on the patrol and give it great stance but I haven't been game to drive further that home after picking them up without flares covering them. Over the past while I've been reading up on flare extension options and to be honest don't really want to go down this road with a permanent modification as then my daily 31 or 33s would loom out of place on +10 gu rims. So I came to he thought of temporary or removable flares that I only put on when running the claws on big offset rims. Now everything I have read to now says to just torque screw them in but I fear for my flares being t…

G'Day Folks, It will include a dual jerry can holder that doubles as a bin in the near future (just got to get a number plate light for it) and then it will be fully complete. And no it doesn't weight that much it leans really bad, thats just my flat tyre I used wheel nuts to bolt the tools on so if I need another wheel nut, it's already there!

I used to use a RAM mount on a previous small notebook, attached to the windscreen via the RAM mount suction cup system, but it's simply not very good because the laptop sits too high and obscures visibility. I wanted something a lot better and which would sit low so that visibility was not obscured, yet gave good visibility to the screen. As it turned out, I found the near perfect solution. OK, this is partly DIY, because the main component has been purchased pre-made, but their is some modification required to suit the dash of the Patrol, which I have yet to fully design and make for the moment, to warrant a DIY moniker. What I bought was a Kropsson HR-P850FTP tablet…

Hi Guys, I am about to embark on some DIY sliders for series II GU. Wondering If some of you guys can take some pics and post in here off your chassis mounts ( as where they are positioned on your chassis) especially drivers side as there seems to be some crap in the way. I am planning on using 2 U shape mounts and the front one utilize gearbox crossmember bolts I think. Any pics would be great. Cheers fellas

OK, I know a rear door table isn't something new; however I thrive on borrowed ideas and necessity. The thing I love is that it is cheap to do these mods, practical, and no-ones going to sweat about a few holes in the car. There are a thousand pics of door tables on the net, but here's mine. I've seen quite a few others, taken good points and bad points. Hope it gives people some good ideas for their own. Aim: Functional, maximum shelf space, to use mostly stainless steel Materials: 2 or 3mm thick stainless steel from the tip shop $8 A fair amount of stainless fittings. The final ones were not too dear. The amount I bought anticipating it would work, is a…

Well I got told this by a good 4x4'n friend with 2 patrols so I gave it a crack. I got an extra 20ltrs but it's up to you on how well you do the job And tank size.. What I'm about to explain is very simple. All your doing is removing the air gap in your tank. Manufacturers usually give 30% expansion gap. So the steps.. Step one, locate some way to get into your tank... In my 91 LWB GQ it's a simple matter of lifting the floor matting, remove the cover plate and carefully take out the sender unit.. Others may have to remove your tank.. This took a bit because my plug was a bit seized and they ain't very forgiving with length... But all the hoses and bolts came …

Just a quick guide on how i replaced the indicator assemblies in my factory Nissan Winch Bar. I bought the replacement units from OzLED. You can get cheaper versions direct from China, but OzLED supplies to the emergency services here in Australia and the lights are ADR Approved so you wont have any problems with insurance or the Fuzz. The set i bought fit exactly into my bull bar, the only thing i had to do was the wiring. Being that i prefer to solder and heat shrink everything (i hate those dodgey crimp things!!) the job took a little bit longer. The lights come in a pack of 2, are fully sealed and have this chrome bezel to finish it off. A picture tel…

I'm looking at putting together a better recovery kit now that the winch is on. I do regularly travel with Toyota's so I think it would be handy to have. I'm tossing up between the Warn kit, the ARB kit and the one roadrunner Offroad sells. Anyone had any experiance with any of these? I'm guessjng at a minimum I will need Another snatch strap Tree trunk protector Snatch block (pulley with greasable nipple) Winch extension strap Drag chain for trees. Some more rated shackles. I'm in two minds about upgrading to rated recovery points too. My telstra rear bar has some kind of dual pin things that I could use a bridle strap on, and I've been snatched a f…
