May 21, 201213 yr comment_3252 I have a reasonably big leak of oil from where the timing cover back plate meets the block. Hoping to fix it insitu. Hoping I won't have to pull the cam out to reseat the plate . The engine was rebuilt 100,000 kms ago so can't see the point rebuilding it just yet. Just want to stop the oil leak. Anybody know what's involved? Thanks in advance. Report
May 21, 201213 yr comment_3270 I had a leak that was were the plate meets the block and sump. All I ended up doing was smearing some silicone on there and it stopped it. Dan Report
May 21, 201213 yr Author comment_3275 Thanks , didn't think of that. Cheapest option I heard so far by a long shot. I'll give it a good steam clean and see how it goes. I might get lucky! Report
May 21, 201213 yr comment_3279 Have a look at the Sikaflex products. Not cheap and you won't need much but they seem to be able to do some pretty amazing sealing jobs. Report
May 21, 201213 yr comment_3288 You can keep sikaflex/silicon etc in the fridge after opening it, it lasts for months, or maybe even years. Neighbour put me onto it a 8 months ago and it seems to work well. Report
