admin Posted March 1, 2012 Report Share Posted March 1, 2012 Welcome to your new Nissan Patrol Forum This forum was started in a real hurry due to another popular 4x4 forum contracting a virus or some sort of malware. It seems the other site wasnt managed by its owner and its users were frustrated. I have the resources to get this forum up and going and to keep it that way. This forum uses the latest Invision Board forum software which includes mobile phone friendly interfaces. Hopefully you guys can help make this place as good, if not better than the old! Rumcajs Posted March 4, 2012 Report Share Posted March 4, 2012 I have a feeling that the influx (LOL, if there ever was one) of Patrol4x4.com members have stopped as the mods at that site deleted the thread/s pointing to this site. All too quick to delete as not to upset the forum owner who couldn't bother with the site due to personal reason but now the malware is still running a mock, and no one is interested. I will keep this site running - it costs me next to nothing especially with zero traffic. If things dont work out at patrol4x4 the doors here will be open. The other forum (patrol4x4.com) still hasnt been fixed - its been about 3 weeks now. Crazy. Ive posted about this place to give the members somewhere to go, but obviously thats been met with some negativity. What really peeves me of is that perhaps the admin at that site could migrate all of the data minus the malware over here for a back up and temporary home until the original site is restored. Perhaps original owners is simply not interested and the mods aren't willing to admit it. It is a shame. I'd prefer .com.au domain anyway and perhaps this one will eventually succeed the other one. Hopefully you guys can help make this place as good, if not better than the old! And, there is competition (this is good, right?). P4x4 wasn't the only Patrol forum. Although aussies have the biggest I can find. There are others in the Philippines, USA and South Africa, and with less than 1000 members each. I never meant to offend anyone by starting this, it just looked like no one was going to fix the other site and I saw an opportunity so I took it. I will keep this site running - it costs me next to nothing especially with zero traffic. Don't worry about offending others. Fortune favours the brave. An altruistic opportunity? If this becomes a better forum than P4x4 then traffic will increase (too say the least). Won't that then increase costs and the possibie need for advertising or fees, or both? The other aussie Patrol site has both (well, it's a donation that disables advertising). It may be a long way down the track im afraid were all going to be stuck using patrol4x4.com from our bloody iphones so we dont get infected. Well, not quite. There is another aussie Patrol forum having a huge membership surge atm (8000 and growing quickly). I'm seeing plenty of ex P4x4 members joining. I don't know what "carrot" is though. Perhaps the opportunity to be involved in a brand new forum ... no fees, no ads ... The only problem is that no one really knows this place exists. Advertise. But not on infected forums. Many P4x4 members were members of other forums like 4x4 Earth and www.exploroz.com where the car brand wasn't the focus. A few strategic posts may help. A google seach for "patrol 4x4 virus" led me here, as well as other forums discussing it. Although the threads are soon locked or deleted. On a positive note. I run a hosting business, so server resources are not an issue. Sure I may take advertising revenue one day if the site gets busy... But thats only natural. Basically, im only interested in keeping this going if the mods over at patrol4x4 want to migrate across - they can run this place just like they did the patrol4x4 site - this time thou, they will have a reliable uptodate server. and a host they can contact if shit hits the fan. Rumcajs Posted April 3, 2012 Report Share Posted April 3, 2012 I had a dig around what it takes to change a forum hosting company and found interesting posts on patrol.com.au forum in this regards when they did it, it seems that it took just 2 days to change over for them including transferring the stuff, some headaches as always but overall it was doable and the site was down only for 2 hours. That brings the question of patrol4x4 back and proves the point of no interest and also unwillingness to hand it over to someone else (don't think it is sentimental value more like actually making the money of it for little input/work) so it can be fixed/improved. Every site has an owner - with financial interests (me included). I can understand why the owner of patrol4x4.com doesn't want to give it away, he would be crazy. On the same token he needs to fix the issues or the user base will look elsewhere. If he doesn't have the skills to fix it not find someone who he trusts that can, then he's in trouble. Ime not goin on as it stoped my home PC, the thing wont even go onto login to get on the putes, do i send the bill to admin over there??? lol. IMO i think the lifetime member option came up a few months ago and he or she's rubbin there hands together and dont give a shyte about the site, Bloody conmen!!!!
