Try and hit on the tail side. With wing of your bull bar. Most of the time they will jump forward if their going to, least that way you've got more chance of saving radiator etc and driving off. Although if its a real big bastard its gunna hurt no matter what. And make sure its dead to.

If ur gonna hit it and it can't be avoided try for the main structural part of bullbar inline with chassis for minimal damage

Personally I couldnt give a rat's which part of the bullbar it hits, just brake hard and keep the car strait.

Better option than barrell rolling down the hwy after trying to avoid or swerve to line up a particular body part.

I remember clipping one in an old xc 351 fairmont wagon once, i had 2 ton of steel on the back of a car trailer and didnt get much of a chance to react, but somehow i just caught him on the side of the car and trailer, it scared the f@rk out of me, more so i was sitting on 140 kay an hour at around 2 in the morning!

Later that day i checked the car and there was a few bits of meat and fur caught on the trailer, anyway i somehow survived!

Did a trip from Broken Hill to Wentworth recently, seen too many to count but thankfully they all sat or moved away from the road.

I remember a camping trip I did with my old man many years ago. We were barreling down a dirt road somewhere in the Grampians and there were roo's crossing the road every couple of hundred meters. After two near misses I remember my dad say "Maybe we should slow down before we hit one", The second he hit the brakes travelling at about 80kmh we hit one bang in the middle of the windscreen!!. We got out of the car and it was convulsing while it was wedged in the windscreen for about 5 mins. We though it was dead so we started to peel if from the car and it got up and scared the living SH*T out of us then jumped about 20m down the road and died. Meanwhile we had to get a tow truck all the way back to Melbourne. Bullbar or no bullbar it's gonna hurt!

Years back we came down the Silver City Highway (biggest pot holes I've ever seen on any road) towards Broken Hill and it was starting to get late, and we began to get a tad worried. We thought that we'd be able to maintain a fair clip, but were lucky to do about 60kmh because of the state of the road. There would have been one dead roo on either side of the road about every 10m in the last 50km stretch to Broken Hill and we didn't want to add to the count. We were so relieved when we got to Broken Hill before the sun started to set. We vowed never to do that stretch of road again. Don't know if it's any better now (about 30 years later).

The quality of the road was fine. There's a lot of mining happening and we passed a few road trains with side dumping buckets on em. One of them hit a bull standing in the middle of the road recently and put the whole rig on its side.

The amount of blood spray stains/splats on the road was unreal , seemed like every two hundred yards.

Keep a csi team busy 24,7 :-)

We cleaned one up between Port Augusta and Coober Pedy, the bloody diesel toyota we were driving had fuel issues that cost us a few hours in Port Augusta sorting it out.

Put us behind time which saw us in the dark for the final leg to Coober pedy, Lucky for us we clipped its shoulders and head with the left side of the bull bar which swung the body around and took out the passenger door. Didnt do much damage to the front due to the way we hit it but could have been much worse if we had tried to swerve a troopcarrier at 120km/h fully loaded.

Haha, I'ld want to avoid her if I was barrelling down the road cock first when I get in my nudie run moods!

As a rule I would aim for the tail side haven't seen that many animals try and walk backwards....having meet both Big Reds I know which one I would prefer the first one wrote off my Rodeo ute the second one I was the only one to conquer in our group which had a Navara and LC200.
