Forums Rules - Work In Progress
When I opened this place someone (cannot remember who) asked me who the forum was owned by. At the time I answered that it was owned by myself - personally. As of July 2012, the ownership of this forum trades under ABN: 79172986749. I have updated the forum rules section (which is the first post of this topic). Im posting here for transparency.

First Aldi product failure
Thats a good life for a $29.00 shredder.. I have a $100+ shredder - Its quality, but it doesnt like to much at once, or for to long or it gets the shits and stops due to overheating. I loved the paper shredder at my last work - It would do nearly 1cm thick of paper.. it was a monster. :-) I loved giving it heaps.

Garage System Now Online
Hi Everyone Today I enabled the Garage System. Ive found it very hard to keep track of what sort of Patrol you guys have - so I think this system will really help. I can add fields to the garage system for things like engine type, fuel type, etc etc... If you have suggestions please let me know and I will do my best to implement them.

They don't need to expose their entre internal systems - e-tax is just a lodge meant system isn't it? It just lodges the tax return data. There is really no risk.

EEK! What would you do to it!?

I don't agree with the security side of things. If its browser based then everything can be encrypted end to end - just like Internet banking. All this VPN bullshit is just some contractor having a lend of the government.

If you need somthing to do Ray, come and make my 4.2 have more grunt.

e-tax should be browser based, there is no excuse for having a compiled executable for somthing like this.

Glind Shower Install - 4.2TDi
There are no T-pieces in my install - Its just inline with the heater hose (as per pics).. I will try upping the revs to 1800 and putting the air con on to see how much difference it makes to the temp.

My Fujitsu inverter ducted air con is on from 7am to 11pm at night 7 days atm.. Its bloody cold. I do have 3kw solar array but it only helps on sunny days and only between 8:30 -> 3pm. Peak charges start at 2pm and go to 8pm ~50c per kwh.. so its going to be an interesting bill. And for all the power I generate and dont use gets fed back to the grid and I get a whopping 6c per kwh - I missed the boat on the large tarrifs. I cant see how it can be fair to pay 50c kwh but only get paid 6c kwh for it :-(

Yeah, agreed.. Windows 7 is by far the best - and by a long way. Im on mind 8+ hrs a day and I dont remember the last reboot I did.. It runs for weeks without reboots... Somthing unheard of in Windows 9x or even XP days.

Linksys Router Owners
Yep - Software will ALL be provided in the cloud - Eventually EVERYTHING will be rented to us bit by bit. Electricity companies are allready on the ball with this - Smart meters are only the start, soon it will be smart houses - Where every appliance is monitored and controlled seperatly. In futuristic movies where you see people paying 30 credits to do their washing or 10 credits for a piece of toast, this shit isnt far away. Soon, they will be charging us for every use of an appliance.

Ecutalk alternatives??
Hmm.. No exhaust gas temp... Battery voltage isnt a concern as I have other means of doing that. Boost pressure would be cool to know. I suppose all I really want to know is how the engines health is when im doing trips towing etc.

The Linux debate is a never ending one. I think the reality is that Linux fans have been saying for over a decade that its going to take over the desktop - But its not - at least not for a long while. I do not agree that Microsoft has a monopoly - Infact its completly opposite. If I were Microsoft I would be real worried that devices like smart phones and tablets will familiarise their users with alternate operating systems like iOS and Linux (android) and that sooner or later people will be more open to running these on the desktop. For now thou, the most suitible product has desktop domination. It may not be the best in some peoples eyes, but it does cost people money compared to the competition and people are still paying for it. As for Drivers... The reality of driver compatability is that Windows has far more driver compatability for far more products than Linux - Regardless of why, thats just how it is. I say for people who can and want to learn linux - good on you.. For everyone else, they are happy with Windows.

Ecutalk alternatives??
So what info will it actually give me on a TD4.2i ? P.S I love my hand throttle - It will make showering warm rather than putting a brick on the peddle to keep the revs up :-P
