Howto kick start this forum?
Memberships are still slowly climbing.. Were at 296 members now.... It was fairly obvious to me that if Patrol4x4 got its shit together that this place would become quieter - So its no surprise. I think this place will still continue to grow slowly. I certainly wont be shutting it down in a hurry

What's the most Funerals You have been to in a year?
I think my max was 3 in 12 months. Thou, I have another record. We camp sometimes at the bridle track Which is in between Bathurst and Hillend. I was there with the wife and at about 10pm we are all around the camp fire pissed and the police rock up. (where we camp is 40min down a dirt road) we were thinking they were going to bust us for riding quad bikes or somthing. Turns out the wife's grandfather died and the police were just there to inform us. Anyway, the next year I was there a cop turned up to inform me the step father in law had passed away. Complete bloody shock that it happened twice in a row.

Anderson Plug Install - Includes Pictures
Today I installed an Anderson plug to the back of my patrol. It charges the batteries in my camper trailer while im travelling. I used 6B&S wire with convoluted tubing to protect it the entire length of the vechile. I protected the Anderson plug with an ABR sidewinder cover with a spring loaded lid and secured the thing to my Kaymar rear bar with 4mm 304 Stainless bolts, washers and locknuts and some locktight to ensure it never comes off. At the engine end I will be using either an inline fuse (like the one pictured) or one of those self reseting breakers - Im yet to make a decision on that thou. Ive also included a picture of the 6B&S wire terminated to a lug and neatly covered in heat shrink. For those that are contemplating adding an Anderson plug - 6B&S wire is the correct size - Designed to be crimped into the Anderson plug lugs. If you use the smaller 8B&S cable the crimp WILL NOT HOLD no matter how much you try. If you use 8B&S you should solder it into the anderson lugs using a big arse soldering iron. Its not practicle to solder 6B&S - Its to big, and the cable goes stiff for inches into the insulation due to the copper sucking solder back up the inside of the insulation.

Fitted Anderson plug to rear kaymar bar. Used 6B&S wire and got under the troll to cable tie it along the chassis. I protected the wire with that bendy curly stuff that has a slit in it and it slides over the wire.

Windows 8
I think the biggest issue facing Microsoft is the lack of windows phone market share. I can imagine having both a win 8 pc and a windows phone would provide some really good integration - but while everyone has an android or iPhone Microsoft will find it hard.

I think the metro interface will come into its own once 50% or more of your apps are metro based. The desktop will only be needed for more serious productivity apps. But of course this can't happen till lots and lots of awesome metro apps are built. It will take time to get used to, but in a few years i think it will be something we won't want to go without.

Car Audio
If your iPod jumps to a new song on rough roads you have 'shake to shuffle' turned on in the iPod settings :-) it took me a while to work out why it would do that!

Drag Links and Track Rod Questions
After buying my new Patrol I started going through all the included invoices for past services. I should have gone through them with a fine tooth comb before buying it, but none the less, I have discovered that the Track Rod has been bent and an attempted straightning was carried out by two mechanics and that a drag link kit was installed. Not being uber technical I figured someone here could shed some light (and maybe some photos) of what these are, how they could have become bent (other than the obvious) and wether I should be getting it replaced asap or not. Its got a 2" lift.
