What did you do to your GU today?
Done some diagnose tests in my Patrol. My local Nissan dealer likes to charge too much for this type of job, so I made the decision to buy a genuine Consult 3 VI interface and do all tests myself. It will pay itself in a few work hours...

3.0 lt di fuel economy
Hi, Donยดt know if I'm the only one doing this but: My european spec GU Patrol had 265/70/R16 tires from factory. My odometer was spot on and speedometer was reading high by 8/10 km/h. I checked this values with a gps. After upgrading to the 285's I noticed the speedometer was almost spot on (at least in part of the scale, it's not linear) and the odometer was reading low than the real distance traveled. I thought if the stock tires (265/70/R16) have a perimeter of 2,44 meters and the 285's measure 2,62 meters, this means for every rotation of the axle the car is "traveling" more 0.18 meters than before. This may seem not a big difference but it's 6%, so for every 100km I have more 6km not registered in the odometer. When I do the math in fuel economy figures I always add 6% to the odometer value to compensate this error, otherwise I'd be getting overfueling false figures. Of course this is with stock differential ratio (4,375) and also with the standard speedometer pinion gear. If I change any of this the math will also change. If you guys are using 35''s or your Australian factory tires are not the same as here in Europe you would have to do some corrections in your math. I thing some of you upgraded to biger tires than factory ones but still rely in the "false" odometer values... Well at least this is my theory... Cheers, Edu

Going without ciggies...
I quit smoking 6 years ago, best decision I ever made. At first I would wake in the morning with urge to smoke but after 2 months I forgot about it. OH, and kissing a smoker woman is like kissing an ashtray, so trueee! You'll notice the stink only after quit smoking... Keep strong, Edu

3.0 lt di fuel economy
Forget to add, I run my tires with 3,0 bar pressure (~43 psi) while on road. This may help a little with fuel economy...

MAF Sensor Maintenance - GU Patrol
I've changed mine at 170000km only as a precaution measure. I keep the old one in the toolbox of the Patrol as emergency spare. Other than this I give it a clean with MAF spray from time to time. Cheers, Edu

3.0 lt di fuel economy
Hi, Last fuel economy figure I got was 9.86l/100km. Most times I get 10,...l/100km. This is most doing long trips. I can get 850km from a full tank until the reserve light goes on, then I refuel with 86 liters. I have a 2000 Nissan Patrol GU, manual gearbox, european spec, only mod is 285/75/R16 BF A/T tires, 3 people inside and some tools in the back. I've found if I stay behind 90/100 km/h I get the best fuel economy. From 100 to 120km/h (max speed in portuguese motorways) economy drops. I usualy don't drive the Patrol around town. When I do it fuel figures can go to 11l/100km or more... Edu

New Key
If buying from ebay you'll need a key with white chip, there's other colours for other models of Nissan, this is for GU II. Keys from locksmith are clones from original key, but my locksmith also has a tool from Silca that can add, delete keys for several car brands ECU including Patrol. You need to take all keys and program all in one go.

New Key
Hi, Don't know about Oz but here in Portugal I can get a locksmith to cut and code a new key to my GU Patrol for less money. There's two ways to do it, one is to make a clone of one original key, they use aftermarket keys and id chips from Silca or Valeo. The other is to use a aftermarket device that adds the new id chip to the ECU and BCM module of the Patrol (like Nissan dealers do with Consult II service tool). You should be able to find a locksmith with the proper gear near you to do the job. Nissan dealers charge a leg and an arm to do this job in Portugal (and anywhere in the world!). Cheers, Edu
