May 9, 201213 yr comment_1105 but in the meantime I am going to try and replicate some of my info threads just in case. Care to share what they are doing that supports that Hope? I'm intreauged as to what they are actually doing they seem so positive about. I think the people taht can get in atm are doing it through their phones. Keener than I am! May 9, 201213 yr comment_1109 I give permission to whom ever wants to put in the time to pull all my stuff across. I'm not sure I have time. Weare all in the same boat, I spent around 6 hours last night replicating some of my info threads, very time consuming and most of us don't have the time. Report
May 9, 201213 yr comment_1112 All you have to do is go to your particular page and use he 'save as' command and it will save all the content, including pictures, on your PC. It doesn't take long, other than finding such posts if you haven't linked to them. Cheers Ray Report

If your not positive then you are dead in the water anyway, I don't know the details just to surfice that there is a relationship building that may give the forum more time to get over it's main problem of ownership and rights, we can only hope. May 10, 201213 yr comment_1130 I've just complete a transfer of a number of DIY threads. It's quite easy to do if you can locate the thread you want to transfer over. Once you've located the thread, open this forum in another tab, start a new therad and then copy and paste the text across. If you have photos to copy across, just right click on the photo, click on properties and then highlight the text loctaed next to Address (URL), right click and copy, and then click on the Image icon on the forum header and right click and paste, click OK. The entire process is very fast. The only quibble is with the way this forum sometimes reacts when trying to paste, you don't always get the paste command coming up and it tends to jump about when going to the spot where you want to post. Editing after a preview can be even more frustrating. Cheers Ray Report
May 10, 201213 yr comment_1132 When you paste, use the paste as text button - Its the second from the right button in the editor toolbar. Pasting preformatted text from other sites will make it hard for the editor to work out.. Pasting as plain text will make things easier. Note with images: If your images are hosted at 4x4patrol.com then you really need to save the image and then upload it here - Cause if they dissapear so will your image. I not Ray's images seem to be hosted externally - Which is why his method of coping the image URL works. Usually I would reccommend people upload the images direct to this forum to ensure they image link never breaks. If you upload your images to say photobucket and then use the URL here, the images will one day dissapear from the other site and that will cause broken image links here and anywhere else you have used the image - So its always best to upload them direct to here to ensure they never dissapear. I was posting plain text initially, to make it easier, but ended up just copying the text directly from the forum. It's difficult to describe what was happening, but it wasn't due to the text formatting. When I'd go to select a spot for the text to be inserted, the editing panel would jump/scoll to another spot and I'd have to click at least once more to get the right spot. Also, when trying to paste something in front of text at the far left of editing panel, I'd more often than not get the properties panel rather than the copy/paste panel. Yes, I do host my own photos, so my method won't work for everyone. Cheers Ray Edited May 10, 201213 yr by Ray! Report
May 10, 201213 yr comment_1141 Ray, not sure what caused your editing issues... It seems OK here - But im only writing simple posts. If you have problems again, delete everything in the post and paste it back in as text and see how you go at editing it. Its all I can suggest. (what browser do you use?) Everyone else: To upload images when replyingclick 'MORE REPLY OPTIONS' and you should see the attach files option.. Report
May 10, 201213 yr comment_1142 Maybe not the place to ask but how do I get a thread to open on the last entry rather than the first and have to go through all the pages, I can't find the solution if it exists, this is how I was setup on Patrol 4x4 and I found it a lot easier to work with that method when you already had knowledge of the threads initial content. In the thread bar ( start date etc) click on custom Edit thats only for threads not posts. Edited May 10, 201213 yr by gottheshits Report

Its all info no one owns it do they????? Dunno!!! If it's something that you've personally posted, then you can copy it across, but if it's someone else's you can't touch it. That's why, for example, I can copy across my DIYs, but none of the posts associated with those threads. Cheers Ray Report

Its all info no one owns it do they????? Dunno!!! Old mav was a bit out of his depth on that one. I had a run in with the owner of a local Veg Fuels forum on some behind the scenes issues and he got bitchy and stoppd me from posting. When I started deleting all my posts he threw a hissy fit about that too. The upshot was I said I did wnat any thing to do with his forum or to be associated with it any further and asked for all my posts to be removed. At first he wanted me to pay him fr his time to take them down ( couple of presses of buttons) and then refused outright. Knowing a bit about copyright I also knew of a gubbermint department that looks after that and got in touch. They said I had a sold case and were drawing up papers to serve on the twit owner. He must have woken up and got his own advise because a coupl of days before he was going to get hung out to dry, he deleted everything. The best part was this department was acting on my behalf with no cost or risk to me at all. They are keen to basicaly prove their they are worth their budget and are protecting the interests of people in their charter. they are a very effective department as it's one thing to take on a private person, quite another to take on the far reaching resources of a gubbermint department. What you post on a forum comes under literary works and also intelectual property. No matter what a forum terms of service says or membership conditions, you won that work unless you specificaly sign it over. You are also free to post it to any or how many sites you like. I see old mav has posted something today about ownership rights and the owner potentially getting nasty about things being taken from the site. Given the owner has demonstrated a distinct lack of interest in the forum, the chances of him taking any action I would say are remote. Even if he. did, the costs of pursuing it would be significant. Everyone threatens to sue, doing it is quite something else. In this case the owner would be all on his own and I can't see any legal entity taking on the case for less than $5-10K up front. Even if he did get it started, it could b spun into a veritable minefield of jurasdiction questions that would cost a pile to sort out even before the case got started. I -believe- under the terms of fair use, education purposes and a few other possible terms, infomation by someone else could be copied from another site as long and the source and authour were refrenced. I'm not 100% on that but I believe there is something to it. I thought they may be able to pull a rabbit out of a hat with the other forum, now I'm beginning to think it's not near as likley to be saved as the powers that be are saying. Between people getting Virus warnings and now not being able to post, it won't be inspiring confidence in a lot of people. Report
