  1. It has been quiet of late but I have noticed that on a few different forums I visit that span quite a variety of subjects. I have been busy with work and haven't had enough time to sleep let alone much else Haven't been going anywhere or doing much that would fit in with the scope of this forum either. The attitude and helpfulness of the membership here is very good so it would be great to see more conversations coming up.
  2. Despite all the parroted fear and wornings I get about running veg fuel I haven't had a problem.... Till now. Last week the mrs went out and running low on fuel, did the rare thing of stopping at a servo and putting in some..... DIESEL! ( Insert shock horror, devil icon here!) The thing went about 2 km up the road and stopped. My son was luckily with her, diagnosed a blocked fuel filter, changed it and home they came. The thing was going through a filter every day for a week after that till I got the Irrits and put a 25L drum of gods fuel in the back and hooked up the fuel lines through the tank inspection plate. No more problems. Obviously the tank is now full of crap and I need to clean the thing. I'm sure I read something a while back about the tanks not being easy or straightforward to get out so before I attempt the job next week, I thought I'd ask if this is the case and if so if there are any tips or tricks to getting the thing out? I might drain it and then refil it with a soloution of KOH and water and drive it for a while to splash it round and hopefully remove a lot of the rubbish then drop the caustic , rinse the tank and then take the tank out to clean anything remaining and dry it properly. In the past when cleaning tanks I have also thrown in good handfuls of sand, pebbles and gravel to add a mechanical cleaning component to the chemical one and it's worked great. Shiny clean tanks in no time. Dunno if this tank is going to be too big to hold and swish around though. I'm still trying to figure out how so much crap got in the tank from just one half load of Diesel though. There is chunks of black tar like crap coming into the filters as well as what is obviously a lot of stuff too small to see with the naked eye that causes them to deform under the suction of the IP. I know it wasn't my oil as I have now put through 100L already this week from the same batch I was using and aside from one chunk of crap that was obviously in the lines, the filter has been there 5 days and is perfect as I would expect. I thought the fuel pumps had filters on them to stop this sort of thing but obviously not. Pretty rough when you have to pay for fuel and it stuffs you up when that has never happened with the fuel I make myself which is essentially garbage! I have bought the Mrs a petrol car for Christmas as she is unhappy with the diesel she has we also run on oil due to it being too small. This is just an interim till I can find her a Decent ML Diesel merc but I'm hoping the quality of petrol around these days is better than this diesel she bought for the truck! !!
  3. From what I understand, It's a bad thing to put my GQ in 4WD ( at least low range if not both) when on a concrete/ tar surface and turn the steering wheels. From what I have read, this loads up the diff and is likley to cause breakage. Please correct me if I am wrong on this. Assuming this is the case, what about if I want more traction on a hard surface and only engage one hub? Will this overcome the problem of loading the diff and risking breakage by having one wheel unlocked allowing the required play in the axle? I need to move something heavy where the truck will be sitting on concrete and I think having a 3rd wheel pulling may be the difference between having enough traction and useless wheelspin. Power and weight really isn't the problem I see as much as grip. I'm also thinking of getting boat and it seems having a 3rd wheel pulling from the front would be very useful coming up a ramp as well.
  4. You can barely see it let alone photograph it! It's the bolt that is in the middle of where the injector pipes exit at the back of the pump. Mine is a VE and it's a lot more crowded on what I think is known as the distributor block than the one on my wife's car which is only a 4 Cyl. It took a bit of juggling to get a socket and extension bar in there but easy when I figured it out, You go behind the middle pipe towards the block and you can get to it that way.
  5. A friend of mine who supplies me with BioDiesel went away for a few months a while back so I was forced to use Diesel to thin my veg oil. The result was I started getting a leak from the rear of the injector pump from the bolt/ seal in the middle of where the injector pipes bolt up. I know it was the diesel that did this because 2 other car that my mate supplies Bio for also developed the same problem sio it's beyond co -incidence they all happened at the same time out of the blue. The remedy has been the same for all..... Tighten the bolt. Did mine n the weekend and instead of it raining out everywhere and rust proofing the entire underside of the vehicle and back doors, I haven't seen a single drop so far. No doubt If I had taken the thing to a Diseso mechanic it would have required a total and complete rebuild because that's what any problem, including a loose bolt, requires as a fix. The other 2 vehicles stopped leaking the same way. Obviously, the bio is keeping the old seals nice and supple and the Dino is drying them out and causing them to leak. IF anyone else gets a leak from the IP, try tightening this bolt, it may be all that's needed to fix the problem.
  6. I have noticed my old girl is steering from the back end. When running up the motorway, when I go from over run or cruise and put the power on, the thing will very slightly point to the drivers side before straightening up again. It seems to be the torque from the rear wheels is shifting the thing on some mounting, maybe taking up the slack before it evens out again. It will also shift the other way when coming off the power rapidly. I'll have to get under the thing when I finish work for the year in a few weeks and have a look and see if I need to get bushes or something before everyone closes for Xmas.
  7. I have had the same thought. At the venue I have been working this week there is a sweet as Gq that looks better than if it just rolled off the showroom floor. Tastefully accessorised and looks magic. Unfortunately it's a petrol engine so I have been having thoughts about buying the thing and doing a conversion. If I took the engine from the old gil and transplanted it, I should have all the parts I need. Of course to do that I'd want to have the old donk rebuilt and turblown which would likely cost more than the vehicle it's going into. Still, be cheaper than buying something knew and I'd probably get a longer life out of the thing!
  8. These days reading forums, not matter what is being said, IS productive. I'm resting and taking my mind off work. That's a great thing!
  9. I had a look there a few weeks ago. The mentality that prevails makes me laugh. Seems they are so concerned with being loyal to a website they were trying to talk up something they inherently didn't like with the take over of the forum and the changes made. Also seemed real funny that out of all the people that said they wanted to buy the site, the Founder sold it to an American concern. That ought have hurt a few of the die hards. I don't think one day of being down will change much there or bring many over here. I'm glad of that.
  10. I read an article on WI a while back and they said that WI when working perfectly should cause a very slight INCREASE in consumption. I forget the reasons given, but do remember thinking they were highly logical if against the hype. As I recall this was in reference to performance use in an SI engine. In a diesel, there is reasonable citation of it causing a decrease in in consumption but I never look at consumption close enough to say. What I would say is I think it is best not to expect a decrease in fuel consumption. As for the Meth, the performance increase depends. When my 4.2 was at stock fueling, the meth gave it a real get up and go. Once I turned the fuel up, I had to run much less meth to stop the thing nailing. As such, the performance increase was much less because there was also probably less available unconsumed air to burn the extra fuel content. I haven't tried the meth with the turbo car yet. A friend that has found the amount of meth he could run was minimal but then also discovered after an IP replacement that the pump had been wound up significantly as well. Water/ meth will significantly lower intake temps however and the real performance increase could result from that. I have also found a meth mixture to appear very superior in it's cleaning properties for reasons I can only guess. I would suggest that you would be better off to turn up the fuelling on your vehicle for a performance increase simply because diesel is cheaper and easier to get than meth in most cases. That said, from the engine preservation angle, cooler intake temps and lower EGT's would be in the water/ meth mix's favour. Also realise that you are asking about opposite things here. Not much use concerning yourself about economy when you are asking about performance. They are unfortunately two opposing outcomes. I have found on a couple of my cars that the water alone made a slight measured performance increase. Given it's going harder, I'd also expect it's burning more fuel. There is conjecture to say differently, things like the water turning to steam in the cylinders increase BMEP however I think it's safer to assume more fuel will also be burnt. As I have said before, the real significant factor is your right foot. I you use the power economy will go down. If you use it sparingly, you may never notice the difference.
  11. Not sure how it would block but I haven't touched it and it's old. It could also have an accumulation of diesel scum released by the veg. I don't believe the veg would cause premature wear. It's off the scale in lubricity compared to diesel so should cause no wear by comparison. My pump is a rotary. I'll try the compressed air but getting the compressor from it's location to the vehicle is a bit of a job so I just thought I'd ask if this were even possible before I mucked around trying it. As you haven't seen this before, it's obviously not common. I could well be on the wrong track but I just thought I'd ask before getting into it and to see if anyone has had similar symptoms and found an unexpected cause. I'm not sure of the age/ mileage of the injectors but as this has come on fairly quickly and I haven't touched the fuelling in over a year, I wouldn't think it would be the injector wear unless that comes on quicker than my lack of knowledge would have me expect.
  12. Hope this isn't too left of field for this forum but I'm looking for some people to work part time doing Photo sales. I had some people lined up but need more than I thought now. I have about 5 weeks work from the beginning of November to early December and a couple of weekends beyond that till Christmas. The work is at various locations, mainly in the west of Sydney presenting photos of kids to the parents and taking orders. There is no selling as such, more just informing parents of the pricing of the packages and options available. There are basically 2 Shifts per day, Mon- Fri 9 am to about 12- 1 and 3:30 to 6:30-7. Weekends are usually 8 am to 12 or 3 depending on the location, sat and Sun. I'm looking to fill the 14 shifts per week and want a few people to cover them. If someone is willing to work most of the week, great, if they are looking for some times here and there, that's great too. I also have plenty of work after the school holidays on an ongoing basis. I am also looking for people that would be interested in working as a photographer taking the pics of the kids. Training and equipment will be provided. Of course all applicants will need to be unfailingly reliable, good with people and spawns of satin, have their own transport, like having different scenery/ work environment every week and have a Functioning brain. Those that meet the requirements will be well looked after and I am very open to paying bonuses to those that can achieve better than average sales. I don't expect this would suit many/ any of the members here but Wives, girlfriends or daughters may be a lot more interested and suitable. PM me with an email addy for more info.
  13. As I have ranted previously, I'm a big fan of water injection. Being slack, I haven't yet got round to fitting it to the wifes car although I did turn the fuelling up heaps. This is a danger when you are running veg fuel as the excess can cause the rings to coke up and a loss of compression. That's the reason I originally fitted it to my vehicles. Her car has been getting harder to start and I saw signs of the ring coking. In an attempt to make up for my slackness, I fitted up a WI system to try and reverse any effects of the veg overfueling. Being a turbo I have done things a little different this time. To trigger the water from a subaru washer bottle, I used a washing machine water level switch. These are far too sensative for the job requiring fractions of a pound to trigger but I wound it up as far as I could and it is workable if far from ideal. I could put an airbleed in the line to up the actual boot pressure it triggers at but I intend to replace it with a proper adjustable hobbs switch. I used my beloved micro mist garden watering nozzle and with a right angle adapter, I inserted the thing in the duct from the air cleaner facing straight down the air stream. There is a lot of conjecture about putting the water before the Turbo and it causing erosion of the turbine wheels. I don't know if this is a real risk or more internet paranoia. In any case I think it would take some time to happen and I have other priorities with the engine short term. I tapped a boost signal from the compensator on the IP to the washing machine level switch and that switches the pump. It still kicks in at anything above idle pretty much with the air con on so with one of the little garden irrigation taps in the line to the nozzle, I turned the water rate right down so the thing doesn't load up with water at low revs and on the over run. While the water rate is very low, it's also nearly constant to compensate. One thing I noticed with this straight off as did my son when he drove the car is hw much better the thing revs out through the gears. I think that may be due to the effect of the water cooling the inlet air much better than the poorly designed in every aspect intercooler. I have had the water on 4 days now and pumped about 16L of water through in very few KM. A lot of that was really drowning the thing when testing the flow rate and where the thing kicked in which was too early and too much. People carry on about putting too much water in and hydrolocking the engine but it's amazing how much water you can pour in with no more than a stumble at worst. On one test run I did manage to drown the engine to the pint it stopped and took enough cranking to kill the battery to get the thing started again. No more damage than a lot of smoke, probably from washing oil and crap out of the intercooler. Already the thing is starting MUCH easier and more reliably like it should. I think the water may have got rid of the worst of the deposits but I also think that properly cleaning the engine of any coking will take a while. I noticed with my Merc the effects were very slight but noticeable for months before the performance levelled out and given the physics of the problem I suspect with this one, I expect the process to be gradual as well. One effect I have noticed is how much cooler the engine is running. The thing is nearly sitting on the thermostat all the time now except of course in traffic where the water isn't running. The gauge in this car is VERY sensitive. You can see the temp go up a fraction after just one squirt through a couple of gears on boost. That isn't happening now and the thing just sits on the low point of the margin when it is up to operating temp. I'm a bit surprised given how little water i'm feeding in. Must be cooling the engine in the truck quite a bit given the amount I'm feeding that at full tilt. I'm planning on fitting another injector to that right at the front of the duct where it comes into the engine bay to try and cool the inlet air and compensate for the engine heat. Given I think the water will all but have evaporated and what hasn't will hit the air filter element and go in as vapour only, I don't think I'll need to lower the amount of water I'm squirting right down the throat of the thing. I plan when I get time to move the injection point to the discharge side of the inter cooler and use a 60 PSI pump I bought a while back for this job. I really want the water to enter the cylinders as drops not vapour as I believe this has a much greater cleaning effect. Again this is not what the purists and Internet experts recommend but they are also usually chasing power not cleaning. So once again I have convinced myself of how effective WI is in cleaning engines. I didn't expect to see such a change in a few days. I was hoping to see some improvement in a week or 2 but maybe the initial saturation helped somewhat? I can see it but who knows? All I know is that we can go out and start the thing as it should now rather than have to crank it and hope the thing will fire before the battery gives out. It's still a bit temperamental when hot for some reason that defys logic ( and it's not an IP fault) but I'll give it some time and see if that improves as well. I have learned my lesson from this, I won't run a diesel on veg without fitting WI. For vehicles with PCV problems etc, I think this would also be a preventative to any trouble with that as well. When I have this set up right, I'll have all of about $50 invested in it. Best mod and insurance for the money I can think of for what I'm doing.
  14. I have noticed over the last couple of weeks the old girl is blowing Shiploads of smoke, particularly under any throttle setting over cruise. My son commented on it yesterday and I followed him in the other POS. When he gave it some I realised I have the perfect bank robbery getaway vehicle. It may not be fast but it has it's own built in smoke/ invisibility screen. I have also come to suspect the fuel return line is blocked going by the increased difficulty in bleeding the air out after filter changes when seems to require cracking the banjo bolt. The thing has also been leaking from the cap in the centre rear of the IP but I think that is just the hardening of the seal. The wifes car was doing the same and stopped completely when I tightened the nut. It's a lot easier to get to on her car than mine. Soooo, What I'm wondering is, would a blocked return line cause a shift in the fuelling of the IP and be a possible candidate for the cause of the smoking I'm seeing? The thing has been using heaps of fuel of late but I have no idea if this is because of the smoke, the fuel dripping out of the IP or the insane hour of gridlock traffic I have had to endure twice a day for the last fortnight. Maybe it's a combo of all 3.p;;
  15. My computer hasn't been updating the latest posts so I didn't see this till just now. The design is simply a fire extinguisher bottle with an air inlet about 1/4 of the way up from the bottom to get the swirl effect. On the top of the bottle. Where the flame exits I put a bit of pipe larger than the neck of the bottle to create a venturi effect. This allows air between the bottle next and the pipe and the bit of 90o bend sits on that. The over size pipe allows secondary air to get the flame to burn shorter and more completely. Sorry I can't draw a diagram, I'm infinitely better with a camera than a pencil or brush. I did take the thing to my mates place to heat up some drums of veg oil to boil off the water. With the thing still choked down a bit in the inlet side, We managed to bring a 44 to the boil in 17 minutes. Actually it was a little less because the oil was sitting at 110 when we looked at the time. My mate had quite a bit of old engine oil around so I threw that in and it certainly burnt well. One lot was abut 50% Biodiesel from where he had been washing out his engine and I put that with some more oil to make about a 20% Bio mix. Having it thinner and warmer allowed the fuel to run through much faster so I was able to get the thing to run pretty hard. My mate had quite a bit of this wet slop oil and was expecting a long drawn out day of trying to dry it but was amazed at how quick we were able to get this stuff dried. At one stage we had a drum up to 120o and being a bit wary of an eruption of the water in the oil boiling all at once, we backed the thing right down. We did 3 drums of oil all up and it wasn't much trouble at all. The burner was just aimed at the side of the drums so there was a lot more heat going to waste than was actually being put into the oil. If we had to do this regularly, we'd encase the drum itself, up the efficiency and really get the thing cooking up fast! It was good to be able to handle and use this stuff we thought was otherwise going to be way too much time and effort. We didn't measure the fuel burn suffice to say one would want to be fitting up at least a 60 L drum rather than the 25 I was using if one were wanting to walk away from the thing for a decent amount of time. I'm thinking about an inverted design with the flame tube running up the centre of the extinguisher bottle so I can invert the thing. I have pulled out a lot of scrap ally and copper from my junk pile and I'll get more for it if it's melted in one lump than in it's original mixed form. I'm thinking of a downwards flame burner so I can make a furnace where I put the raw material in and it is melted and runs off leaving the steel etc behind. I was thinking of doing this with some engines From my old mans wrecking yard as well but I discovered they are so light and wih the steel components, it probably isn't worth the effort. Then again.......
  16. Pffft!! I did over 700km on a country run and back last weekend. Started with a full tank and had about 15-20L left after peddling the thing all the way up the coast and back. I came home, filled the thing up again and it all cost me less than a buck. I love my 4.2. Costs nothing to run ( literally) and with the Pump turned up I reckon goes OK for the size and weight of the thing. Normaly I get as low as 10L /100 but still get 12L/100 on a country run with the thing loaded to the gunwhales. Worst I ever got was on a stinking hot day towing a 1.5 Ton trailer up a couple of mountain ranges and that was 18l/100 KM. I think it's great suburban car. I sure as hell feel a lot safer in it than the wifes or sons regular sedans. Yeah, parking in the city can be a bitch but that's irrelevant to engine types and would apply to all vehicles of that size. I'll put up with it rather than some easy to park shoebox that I could be killed in if a motorcycle hit me at legal speed. I can put 2x 44 gallon drums in the back without folding own the seat or throw in a pallet or 4 with ease. As for being slow, yeah, I guess so compared to other vehicles 0-100 time but in the real world, I never arrive later than anyone else anywhere I go. I got held up with a breakdown on the highway last weekend and when I got past it I wound the old girl up and backed out of it at 145 as the other traffic was impeding me going any faster. I think it would have easy pulled 160. How much faster does anyone want to loose their licence? This afternoon coming home I watched this wanker in a WRX cutting up the bumper to bumper traffic and about 6 kn up the road I crept past him in the other lane. He took off again like an idiot and when I turned off the road about another 6km further on he was 2 cars ahead. So much for having a fast car! What I really like is I can service and work on the thing myself. I don't need a computer to Diagnose it nor have to take it back to a dealer if it does have a problem that the computer codes have to be checked. Things can be got to easy, parts are cheap and despite the old girl coming up to 570K km on the original untouched engine, I NEVER have a fear of the thing breaking down or blowing up. I am sure there is 1 or 2 3Ls out there with that sort of mileage but it is the extreme rarity rather than being nothing at all special on a 4.2.
  17. I left home at 12. Legal age where the kids have a say is 13. My son tried that Chit on one time when he was about 15. Felt all hard done by for being asked to do literally 5 min of chores every day ( feed the dogs) and got all pissy and said he was going to go somewhere else to live and home sucked etc. Wasn't expecting the calm rational response he got of me saying really, you are that unhappy here mate? I'm sorry I didn't know. I moved out of home when I was much younger than you because I was unhappy at home too and I wouldn't wish that on anyone I know what that feels like thats why I got everything I could carry and got on a bus and got out. You pack whatever you want and when you are done let me know where you want to go and I'll give you a lift. I wouldn't want you to be unhappy where you live cause thats something that haunts you forever and I don't want that to play on your mind like it has mine all my life. Son just looks at my wife who says, You better be fair dinkum because if it's a stunt, you sure pulled the wrong one to try on your father because you now he left home when he was a lot younger than you. Suffice to say I NEVER heard that one ever again. Like a kind and caring father, I made sure I got plenty of Mileage out of it though for a few months afterwards whenever he had a whinge about something. Fact is, it seems harder to get rid of them now. so many don't leave home at all. They have wised up to what a good thing mum and dad provide after all.
  18. I accept your challenge! So here is the latest Fire Breather. It was running about half the air supply pipe Diameter it should have been and the fuel was probably less than 1/3rdthe flow the thing could handle but it gives you a rough idea of what the thing can do. The pissy camera mic didn't pick up the sound real good. I didn't want to go back and find my good video mike but it would have been worth it to really get the true sound of the roar this thing makes. If I remember I'll dig it out and take it tomorrow when the beast goes to work on some '44's full of wet Veg oil. So over to you now Westy, lets see what you got!
  19. My Kids are 17 and almost 16. I never see them anymore during holidays. They go out with friends then stay over night. Bloody peaceful and quiet round here during Holidays!.
  20. Makes me remember when my Kids were babies. There was the great shit explosion incident when my son was about 9 months old. Had him in the change table all cleaned and prepped for a fresh Nappie and lifted him by the ankles to slide the new one under him and he exploded.... Literally. I was covered in shit, the walls were covered in shit, The cat had shit on it, the new carpet... It was a mess of unholy proportions. Little did I know that my wife had got up and seeing me looking after the kid, was standing in the doorway watching to make sure I didn't have any problems. By this time her legs have given out and she's slid down the wall almost incapable of breathing from laughter. She said the funniest thing was The way after he fired, I just stood there motionless and didn't utter a word. She said she could hear me thinking, " WTF do I do now.?" I just picked the young fella up, cuddled him to my shit covered chest and got in the shower fully clothed. Of Course the mrs found that hilarious as well. I washed him off then handed him over for the mrs to dry and dress. Got out of my wet clothes in the shower, scrubbed the shit bits off my face till I near had a rash and got dressed and then spent an hour cleaning the room. Achievement of the ordeal was not Vomiting at any stage even though I gagged several times That is still my wifes favourite baby story.. There was also the time when My mate wanted to take me and the boy out to dinner when my wife had gone out. A mate of his had opened a very upmarket restaurant in the elite area of Double Bay and was happy to provide some free meals to his friends to get people in the place and make it look busy. So we bundled the kid in the car ( that my single mate had already had baby seat anchorage points fitted to in preparation for such occasions) and off we went. Being a chef, said mate was keen to introduce the little one to different taste experiences. He got smoked salmon and Caviar, Pate', Duck, steak, fish,.... you name it, from the tasting plate ordered for the baby. Amazingly the little bloke didn't knock back anything and seemed to enjoy himself. All was fine till the next day when the wife got up in the morning and went off her nut at what was in his nappy. You really could have bottled it and used it as a chemical weapon. Even my mate and his girlfriend copped a huge serve over that one. The first time I minded both Kids on my own was also seen as a Typical moment for me. When My wife arrived home the next morning with the friends she went out with, I was up the back yard entertaining the kids. I constructed a merry go round on the clothes line using the kids swing seats, the petrol powered leaf blower and a bucket of concrete for balast. I simply put the seats opposite each other on the clothes line, the blower on another corner and the concrete opposite. I cable tied the throttle on the blower, gave the clothes line a spin and off they went. Started off slow but after a couple of minutes the thing was going round at a good clip. Took a good hour for the blower to run out of fuel but the kids wouldn't get off and wanted more. I failed to see what was so incredibly funny about this as our friends did. The kids were happy and where I knew where they were, I could get on with what I wanted to do up the yard and it didn't cost anything to build. The kids got a lot of fun out of that till they got too big and the clothes line started to give way.
  21. Just came across this westy and thought of you mate. I'm not sure how helpful it is as it appears to be written by a woman and you have to take every thing on the net with a grain of salt anyway. Some of what they say no too looks perfectly OK to me and I can't see the problem but maybe it's a politically correct thing or something. Might be OK to print out and put in the babys room or something. Anyway, hope it helps.
  22. Ohhh dear. A newborn. You should have sought advise in the first place mate. You could have bought her a cat or a dog or a horse or an elephant for that matter. Any or all would have cost less in the long run and been less frustrating and taken less of your time! They aren't bad till they get to about 10, then they know everything there is to know and the stress really starts. Take heed of this bit of advise now..... Do up the shed while you have time and put in a nice comfy bed and a little fridge etc so you can move in there when the new one moves into your house. You'll thank me for the decent nights sleep you'll get and the fact you are still able to function. The women are funny, Right now your Mrs is walking around saying " I just wish it would hurry up and arrive". When it does, she'll be more like " I just wish I could shove it back in there and get some peace and quiet and rest!" They are never happy I tell you. Just be supportive and remind her, she wanted a damn kid not you, now she has one so she should be happy! As for the burners, I might try and cobble another one up for the big blower in the next couple of days. My mate emailed me today and wants to cook up about 800L of Veg oil that is very wet to make bio. The plan is to get some 44's and boil the oil in them to remove the water. It's not the most efficient way of doing it but with this dirty, food bit filled wet slop, there isn't really any other way to handle it in Qty. I'll unleash the beast to get it on the boil then turn it down so it doesn't over boil everywhere. Sometimes when we boil this stuff up it has something in it, maybe dish washing liquid, that foams and overflows everywhere. Hopefully this stuff isn't like that or we will be sunk. Once it's boiled, the blower will be helpful to blow air over the drums to cool them from the 200o + C temp they will be at so we have a chance of pumping the stuff into the reactor without melting everything. If I were going to do this regularly ( not that I would!) I'd get a 400L water heater tank, strip the insulation off and brace it for strength and attach a vac pump so I could pull the water out at a lower temp. Much easier to get better quality oil like I normally do but this lot was given to my mate with a description that was lacking in some " accuracy". I'll try to remember to make a vid when it's Roaring/ boiling away.
  23. Hahahaha. I can tell you, I have been tempted over the years because the things go so damn cheap ( disco's). But then I think why they are cheap and the stories a mate recounts when he used to sell the things. Not Good but Very expensive. At least a pro stocker can idle back to the pits if need be. Ohhh no! No grandkids!!!. My daughter is about to turn 16 and has been spending far too much time with some oversexed little walking , talking pile of hormones that I am NOT happy about. My wife says he is a nice boy, I know what ALL boys are like. She asked the other day when he could meet me. My son said if he's smart, he'll stay well away. I do take the dog for a walk at times. I can walk fairly well, always have been able to. Sometimes I wear the dog out which tells me she needs the exercise more than I do! She also spends more time on the lounge than I do and I'm constantly chasing her off my bed. As for walking 15KM, well I could if I had to but I have other ideas of what I would prefer to do for fun and even exercise. I spend a LOT of time in Swimming pools these days, like 7-8 hours a day so I dare say that hasn't hurt burning a few excess calories either.
  24. So you done any more with your heaters westy? I picked up a Blower yesterday that will blow the nits clean out of your hair and the fleas out of the dog. Was actually funny, she walked through the air blast and took about 5 steps sideways trying not to get off balance. I have a couple of big fire extinguisher bottles to use as burners so just planning how I'll set this one up. Not sure what to do with it. It's one thing to be able to create obscene amounts of heat, it's another thing to put that heat to work. I could use it for the pool heater but this thing is going to do at least 600Kw I reckon and probably more full tilt and I don't have any heat exchangers capable of near sinking that sort of output. I was thinking of making a jet type burner and reckon with a 3" outlet I could still have a jet like flame shooting out of the thing and developing thrust. Whatever I do, I reckon at full tilt it's going to be hot, loud and scary.
  25. I had to photograph a top ranked bodybuilder some years back. He passed away not so long ago of health complications in his early 30's. The guy was a gorilla, literally. We were walking across a park and he was carrying a mid size esky. Going up a small Hill/ rise, he was puffing and blowing and asked the trainer if he could carry his esky for him. I laughed thinking it was a joke then got the look from the trainer. The guy was stuffed. When we got to where we were talking the pics he had a rest from the 200M walk and then started posing. after a short time he was spent and the trainer called a halt to the shoot. The guy sat down and started on his glug in a bottle and regained the strength to walk back to the car.. with a couple of rest stops. He looked like a million bucks ( Bodybuilder wise) and went on to win Mr Australia and some international titles and I believe was strong as an ox but his lack of stamina was disturbing. The trainer explained it as having the strength to pull a tree out of the ground but not enough endurance to mow the lawn. I was very sorry to hear he died especially so young as the little I had to do with him he seemed a bloody nice guy. I also admired his commitment and will power even if I didn't have a clue why. At the time I shot him it didn't seem to me like a healthy way to live and I wondered about the toll it would take in his seniour years. I never imagined he wouldn't have any. As for looking good, that seems to be very subjective. I haven't met a woman yet that thinks these muscle bound types are remotely attractive. I am sure there are some but over all I think a joe average like me would have a better chance. I think women would at least be in less fear I'd kill them in bed, even if it was just from the muscle bound guy rolling over in his sleep and crushing them to death. When it comes right down to it though I wonder how beneficial going out of your way to be healthy is. I have no doubt if you are 200Kg you won't be expected to live to 90 but for those not so perfect, I wonder if things arent different? I remember shortly before my wedding my father in law came to Visit one saturday Morning which was unusual. He was also in an unusually happy and cheeky mood for the normaly fairly serious man he was. I asked him what he was so chipper about and he told me he had just come from the doctors. He said he was as healthy as he could be. his weight was good, his cholesterol was low, his blood work was perfect and there was nothing the doctor could say needed improving. The next thing he said was " It didn't mean he couldn't get sick but there was nothing he could do to make himself healthier." Those words still haunt me. 12 months later after loosing an undignified battle with Lymphoma, he was dead. With all the crap in food, the water and the fallout from all sorts of things from the factory down the street to Nuclear power plant disasters, I wonder just what we are breathing every day that is undoing all the good we might try to do by going out of our modern lifestyle way to stay as healthy as the medicos say we should be? Like I say, I don't think it's a good idea to let yourself go to the pack but I have seen a few people now a lot fitter than I am die of different things well before their time. I avoid certain things that blind freddy can see aren't good but as for getting too fussed about white or brown rice or bread or being 90 kg or 100, I think I'll enjoy life a bit and make the most of whatever I have before whatever it is takes me. Family history shows the likleyhood of that being Cancer or a car accident, neither of which I can do much about so why worry about being perfectly fit and missing out on what one has to forego to achieve that?
