  1. My daughter just gave me a crash course in face waste and all I can say is What in the F*8#k is wrong with people to spend time on that garbage???? But anyway, as it's so inexplicably popular, I want to utilise it for my benefit and the enjoyment of my clients. I was just looking at some Vids of what a company in the US do and would like to do the same. The scenario would be.... Say I am photographing an event, say a corporate golf day I have coming up. What I want to be able to do is have the shots on my laptop or a tablet and be able to email or send or transfer or make available whatever the heck it is to that person quick and easy. What I saw on the vids was they just entered their email addy ( or facewaste logon or whatever) into the tablet and the pic was uploaded and put on their face waste or otherwise made available to them so they then got an alert on their phone straight away. That is what I want to do. Quick, simple and easy. Now I asked my kids and they were talking about albums and making friends or whatever the hell it is. No good to me. I need to be able to do it real fast, real easy, no stuffing around. As I said, on the Vids they do it by the people just entering something in on the tablet and it's on their face waste. I don't know if there is a special software I need, I looked and all I can seem to find up for batching to your own face waste page. I want to put the pics on other peoples page. Any Face waste Gurus know how I would go about this?
  2. EXACTLY! While doing the opposite is convinent, fast, cheap and promoted far more.
  3. Well as reluctant as I am to weigh in on yet another beat up news article, I tend to agree with this one. I'll clarify by saying if your are 150Kg plus you are a greedy, lazy mongeral and there is NO excuse. The BS about people having a problem is garbage as well. the stats prove less than 0,5% of bargearses actually have some metabolic disorder responsible for their size. That's a whole different case however to those that are in the overweight classification or even obese. The scales the medicos use to come to those conclusions are irresponsible IMHO. For one thing they are simply a height Vs weight measurement. They make no allowance for fat over muscle mass which makes it stupid right there. My mate who is a health nut and strong as an ox and thin as you would want is classed as slightly obese just because of his height and weight even though he's all muscle. I'd like to see a lot of the shiny arses that would lable him obese keep up with him on a jog, lift the amount of weight he does or see how tight they could torque up a bolt not to mention compare his BP and other stats. There are the better scales but the ones most GP's use on their little Height Vs weight rotating dials are a crock. I started a diet of my own creation this week. Most of what I have seen was useless because it relied on things I would never eat or portions I would never be satisfied with. I saw the film, Fat sick and nearly dead a while back on late night TV and downloaded it again to have another look. Fking brilliant. They show a truck driver amoungst some other people who was huge and lost half his bodyweight. No gimmicks, no programs to pay for, just eat fruit and veg basically and eat as much as you want and get off your backside and move. I found the film bloody inspirational. That is about Juicing and Detoxing ( which I think is crap) but the results are outstanding and the ability to stuff myself with as much as vegetables as I want to fill me up is the upside. I'm not juicing on it's own, I'm eating but very carefully and replacing the urge to snack with a glass of Veggie juice instead of a couple of lamingtons, biscuits or some other crap. Now I reckon I'm luckier than most in having a mate I talk to pretty much daily that is an expert on food, nutrition and dieting. I can concoct a meal or juice ( Im doing a lot of blending for the fibre) run it by him and get the go ahead or the caution. The thing is, when you are trying to loose weight the amount of foods you should avoid is fking over whelming. My mate is of the opinion there is nothing you can't eat, you just have to have it in moderation. Of course moderation is starvation on the not so good foods. Sure you can eat Chocolate. depending on what else you have had for the day it might be one single square 1x1 Cm but he'd not say you couldn't have it. To get your fill however, what you can have is bullchit in the smallness of variety and qty. And basically you can forget about 99% of anything that comes from a can or packet. If you look at soooo many foods, even fresh ones, the amount of sugar alone in things like fruit and even an amount of veggies is going to mean you are limited greatly in what you can have if you want to loose weight. To me, It's no wonder people are fat, the Fking miracle is that everyone is not 10 times fatter than what they are! Another thing I have learned is that Double cheeseburger / Big whopper etc isn't the epotiomy of a fat gain disaster it's always made out to be. Have that burger and a bottle of water and you could still likely be on target for your daily calorie intake. The thing is they shove the chips, the coke, the Sundae and the apple pie at you as well which then provides enough calories for the entire day. That's where the problem really lies. So when this is being promoted as good value and a bargain and something you are going to enjoy, it's BS in the extreme to then say it's people fault and responsibility for being fat without attributing some of the blame where it belongs. To me that is shared between the gubbermint for allowing it to happen and the food companies. Yeah sure, you can duck shove it back to the guy in the street for not having a gun held to his head and being forced to eat it but that's a fing cop out in the reality of human nature they bloody well understand and rely on in their advertising when they peddle the chit in the first place. When you dangle a bag of money in front of a crim and collar him when he takes it, that's called entrapment and it and the prosecutors arse is kicked out of court. You can't have one standard in one thing and another on something else. While the majority of experts go on about making healthy choices and all that crap, the fact is those choices are EXTREMELY limited in mainstream foods and difficult to work out and find palatable options for a lot of people. I don't like Broccoli, and brussel sprouts and cauliflower and all those other bland arse vegetables that either have no taste or taste like Chit. I don't like a lot of other things that are favourited by the diet freaks either. the mentality is "You''ll get used to them". I'm sure I could get used to the taste of drinking muddy water as well but I have no inclination to suffer that either. Even when you do go looking for healthy, non fattening foods, you could condense your entire supermarket into 1 single aisle or less. And for this reason I do agree it's not peoples fault entirely for being fat. Even the stuff that is pushed on you as being healthy frequently is some of the worst, most fattening garbage out there. You can't allow people to be mislead into thinking they are doing the right thing then put the blame on them because they are getting fat eating what they thought and was told was healthy. Yeah, you can read the labels but not everyone has 4 hours to do the food shopping. The responsible thing to do for gubbermints etc to put some health standards or at least some easy to understand labeling on these foods so people can easily see what their getting without having to be chemist to understand it all. And if that is all too much, they should have minimum standards on the current nutrition information so you can bloody read what they have put without the aid of a high powered Magnifying glass. If it's good enough to mandate minimum size health warning on Cigarrettes that some of the population consume, why not on food that Everyone eats? Just yesterday I met my first challenge. The food court at the shopping centre where I had gone to see some potential clients. Not wanting to blow my good and painful efforts away, instead of just lobbing up for a burger etc. I walked around looking for the right stuff. Yep, there were salad type things but difficult to have without being completely bland or with a dressing, wrap or something else that would make the burger and chips no worse than the " healthy" looking if totally deceiving option. A trap I noticed straight off was subway. Look at all that salad and stuff. that has to be good and not fattening right? Wrong! The bread is laced with all sorts of fattening nasties and a lot of the dressings have enough calories to put the piddly little 6inch snack rather than meal on par with a meat pie. But Joe average bombarded with the advertising and deliberate misrepresentation of the product is supposed to do all his homework and know the nutritional content of everything on offer out there right? With anything else they would call that a con and it would be illegal. They restrict the availability of guns because their position is people will shoot one another if there are too many around. How the Fk then do they allow so much chit to be put into foods and not think people aren't going to get fat and then blame them when they do?
  4. Now if that ^^^^^ isn't the classic example of the absolute Fing stupidity of politics, I don't know what is. Just 4 or whatever years ago when Alabama got in, I remember seeing news footage of all these people Crying in the streets for joy. As I remember, it was a landslide victory for him and Americans were awash with excitement of what the guy was going to do. Now, he's looked at as the same Dud as the guy he replaced. Was he a good president? Who the hell would know? Fact is impossible to separate from politically biased fiction so good or bad, the important thing will be the campaigns, especially the smear campaigns run against him by the losers from the last election. So now he's gone from hero to zero and the next guy that gets in from the same brigade of faceless controllers as the last guy that got chucked out, will inevitably do the same just as all before him. Honest to god, How do people of reasonable intelligence get wrapt up and hoodwinked by all this maniacal crap?? the mainstream population of the world worships this garbage but would be quick to put down something that is much less influential on the world like any religious Cult or brand of extremists most people would be scared of. And it's NOT the pollies fault for anything they do or don't do. It's the brainless, pathetic sheeple that put them there and support the system that lets this rot keep going on. Instead of putting the most capable and intelligent and experienced people in to run the world, we put in a bunch of performing clowns with half the good sense of a wild Baboon! I am seriously going to look into how I get taken off the electoral role because I don't want a bar of this crap anymore. I object to being forced to give my support to any of these clowns nor even expected to play this manical game while my choices are limited to one complete greedy, self centred moron after another. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but by crikey I can see through the stupidity of politics and how I'm being insulted by it.
  5. I hear ya! A few different aquatiences have approached me lately about upgrading their machines. When I suggested some Ex gubbermint 3 yo machines a charity I know sells cheap as Chips, they were aghast saying they wanted something powerful and faster than they had now. They all have ancient low end machines which anything under 5 yo would wipe the table with. Having worked on their machines before, I know about the heaviest thing they run is word 95. The rest is surfing and not much else. They were asking about high end new machines costing a couple of grand when the machines I was thinking of for a couple of hundred would be more than adequate and 10 times faster than they had now. I'd just picked one up for my Daughter and was waiting for her to clean her room so I could get in there to set it up, so I gave it to a friend and said try it for a week see what you think. She didn't believe how fast it was and that it wasn't a new machine. Should have said nothing and charged her $1500 for it. She would have been totally happy for sure! Still haven't got a replacement because the daughter is still living in a pig sty I'm not game to enter. I notice this computer power preoccupation is not surprisingly rampant with the yanks. I have been on forums where someone wants to run a specific software I do for the exact same purpose I run them and people are reccomending that only the latest and greatest machine could possibly be in any way efficient. When I tell people I am running 10 yo 1.8/512/ 20 g machines and they work perfectly, they then start making excuses why the over the top and expensive machine is better. These things are usually put to work at least 10 at a time which is a big difference to a one off. The fact these things are required for a single specific purpose ( Kiosk) doesn't seem to give them any sort of practical reality check at all!
  6. It amazes me how these people can do things like a cable for $1. Take away costs and you would have to be selling 100K of the things a day to make it worthwhile. I know about volume but there has to be some worthwhile margin as well and I can't see how anyone can make that for an item they sell for a buck. I bought some backdrops and a stand this week. The 6x3m backdrop I won for $11 odd and $4.36 postage. The last one I bought here off a Chinese supplier was 80 bux. I got another one tonight in a different colour with a couple of 9ft stands and a crossbar for $15 and $6 something post. Also got a diesel Compression tester for $14 delivered. Got a 70PSI pump for the Mrs Car's water injection For $16 delivered. A mate of mine bought a bit of camera gear off a Chinese supplier about a year ago. He waited 30 days and it hadn't arrived so he sent an email telling them and the reply came back they would send another. About a week later, they both arrived at the same time. Mate contacted seller to say they had arrived and he would keep both, how to pay for the 2nd one? They came back and said keep the second one, sorry for the long shipping delay, we hope you buy from us again. Pretty clever move really. He's bought a pile of stuff from them since even when they are a bit more exy than other suppliers. Trust goes a long way.
  7. Errr, you do realise that a hard object falling from a height of just 1 meter onto a hard surface is well in excess of 1000G's right? Matter of fact it's over 2000G's. The reason a human can easily survive that is they are not a hard object. When a body hits, the skin, muscle and fat move and spread the impact of the fall. A hard object does not and therefore all the shock is focused in a very minute area. The 1000 G shock may sound impressive, that's probably whey they don't state it as a fall from less than 3 Ft!
  8. Well that certainly put a different spin on what I was looking for! All very pertinent and valid questions though. I was more thinking along the lines if there are any Brands you would reccomend or not? I don't have a prefrance other than best bang for the buck. To me there seems a load of units to choose from although that said I haven't tried to seriously narrow them down yet features wise. I know the 17" scree cuts things down but that is a prefrance rather than an absolute. Speed in the hdd would be preferable as I can easily back up onto a portable drive or DVD every few jobs but speed while I am at the gig is important. Dvd would be fine for practical purposes. I only need to burn one Disk on the computer then I load up an 11 drive Dupe tower and let it run the rest off to however many I need.
  9. I think You have it sussed GPSTI. I haven't done this with an xp System for a while, the other machines I am running the pools on are XP and Server. I have run pooling on XP before but it has generally been a big hassel like I'm having now and fixing the problem just seems to happen rather than happen because of something you did which you hadn't already tried before. The last machine I did it on was a W7 and that went quite smoothly, as one would expect it should. Thinking about it, I have had more trouble with machines with stuff hanging off the usb's rather than when I have just sat machines in the corner to play print server. Pretty low end machines can do that surprisingly well which was why I thought this laptop would handle it. I might pick up some better used ones and try server or 7 on them and see how they go. The thing that gets me though is Why the hell do they put the feature there if it's likley to cause problems which they must know about having designed the USB side and knowing it's limitations and weaknesses. Not including the feature at all would be far less frustrating than having it there and it doesn't work. What is more of a pi$$ off still is when you go to the MS site, there is no mention on potential problems, you should follow the instructions and it would work. According to them, that's it. No mention of there are potential problems, why or how to fix them if it's possible. Anyway, thanks for the info. It is at least some comfort to know that it is the system flawed beyond your control, not that you have somehow missed something which I knew I hadn't, but just the same..... BTW, as you are obviously knowledgeable, what would you reccomend as a decent value for money new laptop? I'd like a 17" screen, I7 and 8g min of ram hopefully for around $1500 as I'll need 2 of them.
  10. I have my other printers pools assigned priority and do that as a matter of course because that works a lot better than not assigning them. This is an XP machine I'm trying to work on however so you might have something there. I'm not sure what edition of "fix the dodgy errors that amount to a larger file than the original OS" the machine is running but I will have a look and update if needed. Thanks for the heads up and can you elaborate on the USB problems and if there are any fixes for that or work arounds?
  11. Ray I have set printer pools up literally dozens of times on different machines. I run 3 Pools of 3 printers each in the studio. There would be few people that would be more familiar with it or have done it more often than I have over the years. All I am trying to do is set the same thing up on a laptop. Trust me, it's not operator error in this case. it SHOULD be a rather straightforward process. And that where windoze gets you every time... Turning the simple into the incredibly frustrating. The moronic crap windows was actually switching which printer was the default and assigned the number one ( or any other priority ) last night when I gave it away in frustration. If you really want an experience in the twilight zone, try setting up a wireless network connection with windoze to a wireless image transfer module on a camera. People the world over including networking experts are totally bamboozled by that one. Guys working for media outlets get new camera's and new laptops exactly the same and it works on some and defies all efforts and absurd amounts of time on others. Mac has no such issues or complications. The problem is nothing more than the "Uncle Bill knows what's best" mentality built into windoze that even when it has provision for you to tell it what it wants, it takes over when it feels the whim and fks chit up. Usually with server editions they know they can't get away with such crappy programming and when you set this up on those OS's it works much better, IE, as it actually should. On the pleb editions it either works or it's a bloody nightmare. Another thing that chits me to tears is the windoze updates. There were a couple last week I noticed. 1 Fked up the security system software at one of the buildings I was managing but luckily I fluked coming across what it had changed and was able to find and fix it quick and easy. If I hadn't have fluked seeing the problem, It would have taken a long time to figure it out because it was not something closely related to anything you'd look for. My own computers had some minor issues from the updates and yesterday I got a call from a mates mother who is suddenly having trouble with the scanner I set up and was working fine... Right up till last week when she saw something about an update and gee wizz, now it's acting up. As far as I'm concerned, Windoze does not have the credibility to be argued over any other OS.
  12. Here is a typical windoze BS fkup for those that think it's such a straightforward compatible system that's Pi$$ing me right off. I'm setting up a printer pool with 3 printers on one of the laptops I want to use for outside work. Printer pooling works like a single line at the bank. 3 printers, first one available gets the next job And they all share the load till they are done. If you send one job it goes to printer number one. If you send more, they go to 1 then 2 then 3.... in theroy and usually in practice. Basically you connect the 3 printers, enable the ports, check the pooling box and assign them all a priority, 1,2, 3. Now I have done this a load of times and sometimes its fine and other time it gives you endless grief like right now. One of these printers has a bulk ink system on it I made myself and want to test some more by running off a quick 30 A4's for samples to give potential clients. Even though I have prioritised that printer, checked it as the default and even gone to the trouble of makeing sure it is on port 1, This POS OS keeps sending the job to the number 3 printer. The whole Farking idea of setting the priority and default printer is so you can assign the order of the printers the jobs go to. Its Chit like this that windoze does of it's own accord even when you tell it not to that Pisses me right off and wastes endless time sorting out when you bloody shouldn't have to. While some people may think that mounting the printers and assigning them or whaterver you have to do in linux is a hassel, not having the control like you ought to in windoze is a hell of a lot more stuffing around in theh long run. Now granted what I do is not what pleb does but the fact is the OS has the ability to do it but it dosen't often work as it should. It seems I am always coming up against things in windoze that are features that never damwell work as they should and to get them too work requires far more mucking around than it should. Try getting an XP Machine to network BOTH ways with a win7. There is anotherr hear tearing windoze experience unless you can find the right snippet of info on the web for the work around on that! It would have been far easier for me to set this up on a totally manual system that to have to deal with the Windoze knows best crap that frigs up what you ant to do! / rant.
  13. Some great tips for the Job seekers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1Rb3f0TzEQ. Seems very practical and workable tips that as far as I can see would almost guarantee getting a job through the stand out and different approach.
  14. Well I'll guarantee it hasn't improved it! Honestly, I don't know and I don't care given my situation with fuel. The only thing I do care about is range but that is more of a concern with knowing what it is rather than the qty and cost of the fuel. As far as I can tell, on country trips the difference is too small too tell. You cruise most of the way and it's only on the hills or over taking you use the extra power and in the overall time and distance of the trip, that isn't much. Round the city, the driving I do is too variable for me to have much of a clue or concern. It's like this though, you can't have economy and power in this case. The thing will go better by burning more fuel and more fuel means less economy. If economy is your main thing, leave the truck alone. If you don't mind paying a bit extra to get up that hill with the traffic rather than being a mobile obstacle, then tweak the thing. Really despite all the hype and waffle, the biggest influence on economy is your right foot. It IS that simple. If you get extra power and use it all the time your economy will suffer, it has to by laws of physics. If you use it sparingly and drive carefully, then the difference may be so small as not to notice. The likelihood is though, when you want the power you'll be happy to pay for it in economy. Human nature is however if you have it, you use it so that may be something to bear in mind especially if you don't trust yourself.
  15. I'm glad I don't have to go job hunting in the traditional sense. I spent a lot of time on it last week lining up clients but that is so much different. These days the whole thing is a charade and BS. Last time I looked for a job years agi I got onto some sites that had Job hunting tips. I saw there was a lot on how to answer questions and 2 of the questions they said almost always asked was about your strengths and weaknesses. The upshot of it is they are useless questions who's sole purpose is to see if you have done your homework on how to play the game and can give an equally useless answer to the stupid question. The answer is irrelevant, it's just to see if you are on their level of pointlessness. And like mentioned, the list of requirements most of these HR morons dream up is ridiculous. They often list a whole heap of things and lengths of experience that you would have to be 127 years old to have acquired and once you did, You wouldn't be working for these clowns, You'd be running your own biz and making $10M a year for yourself! I just hired a girl to come work for me. She knows nothing about the work nor has any experience with it. What she does have though is guts, determination, initiative and drive. She isn't afraid to get her hands Dirty ( and I mean working part time servicing trucks type filthy dirty) dosent give fk what anyone else thinks as long as she is satisfied with what she is doing and the kid can think on her feet and use her brain rather than stand there waiting for instruction. That's a kid I can train to do the work, I can't put that sort of get up and go in them if they don't start with it and have it within them straight off. Seems to me though that initiative and guts isn't even given the chance to be recognised these days and they hire people on the bits of paper they have rather than who they are as a person. I'm confident this kid will be a star and make me a lot of money and in return I'll pay her damn well because I'll be able to afford to and in the long run the most profitable thing for me is keep her happy rather than loose her. I know people like her are hard to come by and I'd be lucky to find another one like her any time soon. I'm also amazed at the tight arse mentality a lot of employers go on with as well. They penny pinch and take their workers for every cent they can. I personally don't understand it. When I had people working for me before, I paid them more than the going rate and they knew it. The thing was, for that bit extra they are happy and loyal. When the proverbial hits the fan as it always does, they dig in, go above and beyond and the clients are impressed and happy. In turn my business looks good, the clients come back and spend more so everyone in the circle is happy and at the end of the day I probably have more money in my pocket than what I could have saved by being a tightarse with the people working for me. Just common sense and good business management to me. I don't envy those looking for work and going to interviews but the one thing I would say is think outside the box, stand out from all the other Vultures you are competing with and be different to get noticed. What also works for me is to be uber professional. The job you are going for maybe for a street sweeper but if you treat it like you are going for a position on the board of Directors and do all the things you would if that was the job you are going for, you will do well. The people that you really want to work for and be happiest with will be smart enough to recognise the standouts as people rather than be preoccupied with what's on the paper they are carrying.
  16. No, you turn up the fuelling screw. There is a link to it somewhere, hopefully someone can guide you to as I forget it now. You have to take off the fuel inlet banjo bolt to get to it and back off a locknut on the screw. From memory I did mine about a 1/4 turn or whatever was reccomended and it seemed about right. The thing blows a bit of smoke at the top end which is what I wanted because it means its getting all the fuel it can handle. Made a hell of a difference to the way the thing goes though. Much more driveable and fun to drive. Went from struggling to keep up with the traffic off the lights (and often failing) to having no trouble to leaving it behind.... as long as the grandma on the way home from the senior cits in her charade isn't trying to get past into your lane from the inside! Up a big mountain pass I travel every so often, I went from struggling to get up there at 60 to now having to back off so as not to go too far over the 80 limit. With my big trailer it went from a crawl up at 40 in 3rd to passing the occasional truck and not dropping below 70 at any point. With the WI on, the temps went from borderline overheating to a much more comfortable 3/4 on the gauge. It's very worthwhile doing.
  17. Hmm, I can see how you managed to spend so much time there. Unfortunately there is more wrong there than I realised. The mixtures, numbers and procedures are all pretty off. I'd suggest your best bet is to go to this site and ask who is around you making bio and if anyone would give you walk through of their setup. Tell them I sent you. That will upset their day. Maybe you better not. Probably wouldn't be the best way to endear your self to the forum mods and owner! I know what you mean about a step by step procedure but each segment of bio making is like a science in itself its really for the best to have a good understanding of the overall thing rather than follow it as a 12, 2 3, . I know that not what you want to hear but I'm not being pedantic, I feel I'd be misleading you to say it was as simple as following the steps WITHOUT some background knowledge so you know what to look for and expect. If you do get it right, it is a very straightforward process and you don't need all the complexity people go on with. You will see people go on about their reactors that look like something that came from a Nuclear plant rather than has old fish and chip oil going through it in someone backyard. I and others I know have made very good Bio in nothing more than a an open top 44 with a lid, a pump circulating the oil and the thing propped up on bricks with a gas ring to heat it. OTOH, I sourced a lot of components for my mates processor and that thing is a sight to behold and never ceases to have people gobsmacked even if they are bio makers. It's not complex for the sake of it, it's just designed to make Bio different ways according to the type of oil being processed at the time and what method will be best. We also do 1000 litre batches ( although it is capable of doing over 1500L at a time) so it is a Substantial and significant size contraption. I have made a couple of batch of Bio myself but don't have a setup for it. A guy that helped me understand it when I was going to get into it has become a very good mate so I supply him with a Lot of oil as I can always get way more than I ever need and I go over and help him with the bio cookups. The plant is big enough to keep 2 people busy running it so I usually prep the oil we are going to use by drying and filtering it while he does the testing of the oil, making up the chemistry and running the processor itself. In return, he gives me all the bio I need so I have no requirement to make it myself. I'm all set up for producing top quality straight oil and he's set up for the bio production. Another thing I'd do before you go into the bio making is ask the people on that forum where you can source the Methanol and KOH from. I know in some places getting this stuff is very difficult and the suppliers that do get it have no problem charging 50 to 100% over the going rate you would pay in Syd or Melb. That could push your production cost as high as .60C per liter and with all the work and time involved, I can't say i'd be that enthusiastic to bother with it at that price. Many people look at it as a hobby so the price is not so relevant and the savings are still substantial enough for them. Some of the guys like mates of mine that live in Dubbo and another in Nowra make trips to sydney to visit friends or family and go back with 4 drums of meth and the same amount of bags of KOH. There may be some Bio makers around you that you could add to their bulk purchase with to cut your costs or get what you need if it isn't available locally. When you find someone that does make Bio and you source your Meth and KOH, the next thing I'd do is make a test batch using the world famous, Patent pending, ( Bio in joke) " Dr Pepper method". Once you have done the test batch and processed it ( all one litre ) Put it out where your truck is in the garage or wherever. What you want to do then is have a look at the stuff in the mornings when it's cold and see if it is still liquid or gelled. If it's gelled you will at least need to cut it with some Dino or petrol which will help lower the gell point and allow you to use the stuff in temps too cold to use it normally. With lard, the temps you are saying you get down to in your area are right on the borerline of gelling or non gelling. It depends on the actual base stock and how through your processing is, but more on the oil you are starting with. I would guess you should get nine months of the year you can use the bio with no trouble and the likely hood is with a bit of blending you should be right year round. There was a guy I was friendly with from Mt/Gambier that used to call in on his holiday travels and get some oil off me. He was a pretty knowledgeable bloke and as I remember, used to get more liquid oil than what he needed. He used to travel up to QLD with a camper trailer so Sydney was about where he ran dry and he would stock up to get to brisvegas where he could refill there to get back then get more off me to get home. I forget his name now but I'm sure he would help you with any excess oil he had and maybe steer you to some suppliers. Long time since I spoke to him but if he is still on that forum I'm sure he will make himself known to you. Anyway, what I suggest is to spend some more time reading up on the process, get onto that forum and see if there is anyone doing bio or has an excess of liquid oil they might be prepared to put your way ( and try to tolerate when the forum demi god and his butt licking minions when they chime in with their holier than thou drivel) and see how you go. I read heaps on bio making as it was what I was first going to do but until I saw a reactor setup in the flesh, I never quite got it. Once I did it all fell into place and I realised it was as simple of warming some oil up, throwing some chemicals in it, stirring the crap out of it and separating the gold from the rubbish. Everything else is just a refinement of that basic procedure.
  18. People also forget the old 20-30% sales tax was on the WHOLESALE price. The GST is on the RETAIL price. For most things the end result is the same. For a lot of things the tax is more, for very, very few things it's less. The most electronics could have gone down was 5%. I think any decrease over that was just competition and lower production costs. I remember when the GST was being talked about, I was one of the seemingly few people for it. I felt completely decieved when it did come in however because I never heard it mentioned that it would be on the retail not wholesale price. I never heard it mentioned it would be on previously tax free things like your bills, car rego etc and as I should have known then but realise now, Gubbermints and big biz never do anything unless it will make them more money. I was either suckered, mislead or both completely and utterly I'm afraid to say.
  19. Backing the mix off will leave more air for the diesel to burn but I doubt that is your problem. Unlike petrol engines you an run diesels till there is fuel running out the tail pipe and they won't loose power. as far as the revs go, Yeah, That's Kinda the point, the engine should be turning over pretty well not just cruising otherwise it will load up and there will not be enough turbulence in the Manifold and cylinders to move the water through without Puddling. At this stage, I would be backing the delivery rate off say to your original 200Ml/ min and see how that goes. If the thing is stumbling at 50% @ 3000 rpm, I wouldn't expect increasing the water and backing off the meth to help. Has the pump been turned up on the vehicle or are their any other engine, induction or exhaust mods done to the truck or is it basically stock?
  20. I'd be triggering it around the 2500 Mark. That said, every engine is different and you may have to experiment some to find the best setting for your truck.
  21. Exactly how are you triggering the WI and roughly what throttle percent are you triggering it at? I have mine come in at about 3/4 throttle peddle travel. If I flatten my foot to the floor it might kick in at 1500 revs which is not ideal. Because of this I tend to use part throttle till the revs come up and then I tramp it to get the benefit in the top end. If I kick it in too early, it will pull harder but will also smoke a fair bit and in some cases Nail like hell on meth mix. It may also slightly bog down on water only if I get on the squirt too early but at the top end there is a very small increase in power even just with straight h20. My truck is a poverty pack that only has a stupid blank panel where Missan were too cheap to even put a $2 clock so I can't tell you what rpms my WI kicks in. I do know that at 3K though, the thing should not be bogging at all with that mix at that delivery rate. It should be running right through there and pulling like a train because mine sure as hell does. Once the engine is warmed up properly, the heat in the intake system and the mix running through the head and past the valves I would imagine would be enough to vaporise most of the meth out which boils at 65 so your results are very odd.
  22. Filters will only improve the " particulate" quality of the fuel. The quality the stealer was talking about relates to a whole lot of other things, mainly the Cetane value of the fuel. A filter will do nothing to improve this. Diesel fuel is not a pure substance, it is a mixture of a variety of components and most of those are determined by the distributor. Unless you get a dodgy distributor that is adding in turps or paint stripper or something else into the fuel ( which has happened many times) you fuel should be fine. In any case, a simple fuel filter will do Jack to improve the chemistry of the fuel. Some members here add 2 stroke oil to their fuel and say it makes a huge difference to the way the engine sounds and feels. A number of people report economy gains but personaly I see no physical reason for that to happen at the reccomended ratio of 200:1 You can also add other things like transmission fluid or vegetable oil. all of these things have proponents that say they get benifits from them. Best to try them yourself and see how you go. They won't hurt your engine or your wallet to try. In the case of the commercial additives, if you look at the MSDS sheet, they ALL contain NAPTHA. This is available at your local Bunnings for $10 a litre I think it was when I last bought some. It's basicaly lighter fluid but used for cleaning purposes as well. ALL the commercials additives have this as the main component Wether it be fuel system cleaner, combustion improver, oil flush, or whatever cleaner/improver. Far cheaper to go buy a litre at bunnings and throw 1/4, 1/2 or a full bottle in your tank (or sump) and see if it helps. It is not so common to get sediment or particulate in fuel unless you are buying it from drums. In any case, the filters on the vehicle should be fine enough to protect the fuel system from damage. That said, I have seen studies done by engine manufacturers (Cat) that said modern high pressure systems need cleaner fuel. They also said that the most damaging particulate size is 5-7 Micron because that is the most common tolerance of moving parts in the fuel pumps, injectors etc. Many manufacturers specify 10um filters, some 5. I believe the standard for modern cat engines is 2. In any case you would have to get a filter with an ABSOLUTE rating of 3 Um or less. The only ones I know of that do that are the Racor filters which are very expensive but very good. They do a 2UM cartridge for their units. There may be other makers that have specific absolute ratings that I am not aware of but to my info, most specify a "NOMINAL" rating which means a percentage of matter much larger will still also pass through that filter. If You want to get a better filter, make sure you find out if the rating is absolute or nominal because there is a big difference between the different types If you can only get a Nominal rating, get one for 1UM or .5 if anyone does one to give yourself the best safety margin. In reality, I wouldn't bother with 2 filters. There is no point when one is going to be far finer rating than the other. For one thing it means you have to have 2 different filter types. If you block a filter, which one is it? The coarse presumably OEM filter or the finer filter catching the crap the first one missed? If you change them both before they block, you are potentially wasting twice as much money if they could have gone another service interval. Your fuel will have a given amount of crap in it for whatever volume. Wether you catch this on one filter or 2 is irrelevant. It's still the same amount but the complication and added expense of 2 filters actualy makes changing 2 half as often more expensive than changing one twice as often. When you get a filter blockage with a single filter you know which one it is and you can carry twice as many spares and not have to worry about not having the type you need. I use industrial Nominal sized 1Um filter bags for my fuel which I put through before it goes in the tank. Anything that gets into the fuel IN the tank is likley to be something that has broken away from the tank walls or lines and is going to be a chunk of something that the onboard filter will catch easily. To me it's better to use the bag filters which are cheap and have a huge capacity to keep the fuel going into the tank clean than have the crap in the tank and then take it out of the fuel later. This would not be a practical thing for many people though. There is no doubt having 2 filters will put greater strain on the lift pump. What sort of reserve it has to overcome this is the question. I'm guessing you have a 3.0 which I have no experience with in knowing the strength of the Lift pump. With my 4.2 however, I ran the standard filter and a disposable or a CAV with veg oil and in standard tune, the lift pump handled it fine. I forget the viscosity difference between Veg oil and diesel but it is magnitudes. Milk and cream type comparison. With this in mind, I would think that the same pump would barely notice 2 filters passing Diesel fuel. Again though, I don't have any knowledge of the relative strength of the 3.0 pump. As for lift pumps, The walbros are good but tend to be not the highest flowing. I don't know what sort of return rate the 3.0's have in their various Guises so for that reason the one I'd reccomend to you is the Mallory 4140. These are a gear pump and while I forget the flow rate, I believe it is around or over 300L+ per hour which should keep any diesel looped fuel system happy. To avoid any overpressurisation of the system, I'd put a "T" in the line right before the IP. This will enable the IP to have all the volume it wants with minimal pressure by feeding the excess back to the tank. The IP will have a slight pressure and a huge volume to draw from then. The thing is, I think if you stick to one filter, even a better rated one than the OEM, you will save yourself a lot of mucking around, expense and have less failure points to go wrong.
  23. How does that work? Are they only paid by the gubbermint if you are on benefits? Years ago the dole buldgers had to show they were looking for work and going to interviews to get their handouts. There were apparently an amazing amount of Lion Tamers around as well as snow ski Instructors Particularly in the northern states. My problem was that I really wanted one of those jobs that hardly ever came up and when they did, had 1000 applicants. Photographer Some time later they cracked down on the lion tamers etc But photographers were still an accepted legit occupation that the bludger would have been happy to use as their excuse for long term handouts. I have no idea how it works now but back then you had to line up and hand your form over in person and answer some questions to justify your payout. To me, that lining up with the Blue/green form was one of the most demoralising, low and depressive feelings I ever remember. Even as a young guy straight out of school, Being around all those deadchits and largely dregs of society who seemed to outnumber the poor buggers like me at about 10:1 was something I couldn't stand. I didn't quite manage being on the dole for 3 months before I couldn't bring myself to go up there again and be seen as another one of the bludgers. I knew other legit people were like me as well. The low lifes didn't mind lining up at all to get their handouts, the legit people found it " shameful " for want of a better word.
  24. Something is still wrong because the physics don't add up. What I understand is you are presently running a 50% water meth mix and injecting it into the engine @250Ml min. IF that is the case, what you are experiencing is at complete odd to Physics and practicality. In a 50% Mix, the meth will burn off and make power and/ or smoke. On energy value the amount of meth you are adding is better than 10HP. You would ether have to notice that in the increased energy being delivered to the engine or if the engine was maxed out on the air side, you would see it as smoke from excess fuel. If there is no smoke the engine is burning the Meth and would be generating more power. The Meth is going to likely burn before the diesel being a lighter fraction which would leave the unburned Diesel to create smoke. That only leaves 125Ml of water which there is no possibility is going to drown an engine that size (4.2?) at that RPM. ( 3000) I would suggest either the mix or the delivery or delivery rate is off. To me there still seems to be a possibility the water is not spraying through the gears but has time for the pump to prime or get to the nozzle when it is being held when climbing a hill or the system is being kicked in for longer. It is the only explanation I can think of that explains symptoms of no/ very little water ( no noticed performance difference) and the engine drowning ( Bogging down) When it stops pulling, do you see any smoke? I have seen engines loose some power when the water was too High but with that feed rate with 50% meth, I would also tend to think if the delivery was excessive, you would also hear some knocking or nailing as the excess meth fired off as well. Pitty you are not in Sydney so I could have a look and give you a hand with it.
  25. Is it actually squirting? Did it use water and if you pull the lid off the air box, is the nozzle actually squirting water or do you have a blockage or leak somewhere? 250Ml@ 50% meth is better than 10hp. If it's working, You will notice it. If I gave mine full squirt round a corner in the wet with a 50% mix it would swap ends no trouble at all. It would definitely break traction in the dry if I peddled it. I haven't got it to chirp into second unless I'm thrashing it though which I try to avoid. It will stutter if the water is coming on at too low a revs. You could put it into a high gear and floor it and the water will be excessive for the engine speed. If this is happening you need to back the activation off a bit so it comes on in the top end where you want it not at cruise throttle settings. If it didn't stutter before but if this is taking a while to happen as in will be k for a bit then stutter, the water may be running back to the bottle and not having time to get far enough along to squirt through the gears but when it is held in for a while, it gets pumped far enough along. I'd take the cleaner lid off and activate the WI and make sure the squirt is happening straight away and the water is not running back in the tube. You might want to fit an anti back flow valve off a windscreen washer setup which a lot of cars have. Retest you flow rate when you do because these put some restriction in the system and you may need to open your tap up more to get the right flow rate. And on that, just double check your flow rate at the squirter. No difference means no or too little flow. Id say you are just having teething problems because it works a lot different to what you are seeing When it's set up right.
