Glind Shower Install - 4.2TDi
Nice to see someone did a job with care and like they took a pride in their work. They seem to have put real effort and forethought into what they did. Seems I was under the wrong impression with these things. I didn't realise you had to pre heat the water by circulating it. That was why I was wondering about the cooling effect on the engine, I thought the things worked as a one shot deal where you sucked up the cold water and it came out hot. My mistake. Thinking of the thermal Maths, I still would have thought with the the right heat exchanger and the engine up to temp it would heve been possible to get one decent shower at a respectable flow rate before things cooled down too much given gut feeling for the weight of the block, total thermal mass and the temp rise required. I'll have to do actual calculations next time instead of guessing. I suppose if you had a fire going you could speed up the pre heating process by boiling a couple of billys to have less running time on the engine. I'll bet that will make a welcome luxury to longer camping trips especially in winter!

Another Backflip on global Warming.
I was looking on you tube tonight at hotrds etc and got onto the paint work. I was stunned to see that even car paint companies are onto the the racket with one very well known custome paint company having a line of " Enviro" paints which are water not spirit based. Who the Fk would have thought that people in the custom car circle would have thought the green enviro bandwagon would have had appeal to their clients? May be it dosen't which I suspect for the most part but the fact a compny in that market would have even felt the need to develop a product to tie it into the green crap astounded me. Tradie mate of mine has got onto the green bandwagon. HE points out his company's " Enviromental Awareness" and uses that as an excuse to re-use materials people would have chit a kidney if he even mentioned it a few years ago. Uses materials he pulled out of one job to put into another with a much cheaper clean than buying new would cost and charges more because the install generally takes longer. Money saved and extra made on the same job. Perfect! People feel all nice and warm and Fuzzy they are doing something to save the planet even though 95% of them will misuse the product and in be highly detrimental to all the causes they would champion if asked.

Ugly Duckling Bonnet Scoop
And if it's a woman on you're bonnet, WTF is she doing out of the kitchen Right?? I seem to be missing something in the laws or I have found fault. The scoop I would do is much like the one Fail one in the diagram example. Reading the code, If I lower the bottom edge so it contacts under the halfway plane of the sphere and then recess the top edge so it can't contact ablve the sphere, I can virtualy make the scoop 2 ft tall. The talk about rolling the sphere back and the point of contact. By " artificially inducing that point of contact, seems to me I can make anything behind that as tall as I like. This was kind of the question I had originaly with these things. I understand about the sphere and all that but if you look at the way the OEM scoop is cut back so the point of contact would be within the lower half of the sphere, what is the reg of the max height I can have behind and above that. Same as in the fail example diagram. If the contact point of the lower edge is below the halfway plane of the sphere, how wide/ high can the actual inlet be? That fail scoop esign is actually the effective one and what I would want. The inch between the bonnet and the lower lip is just hot, disturbed air with a lower velocity. you want to get above that which is what that scoop design does. It's not the point of contact that matters, its the height of the top edge and the overall inlet area that is going to decide upon how efficent the thing is. I'm also confused with the 2nd pass Diagram. That to me appears to be a reverse flow scoop which I have read was illegal. anyone got the actual up to date stipulations on those? One other thing I wonder about is the material the scoops are made from. Years ago I made up some spoilers and air ducts from Cinveyor belt. The stuff was great for that application. At lower speeds the stuff was stiff enough to lie direct in the airpath taking the maximum " Bite" into the airstream. when the speed and therefor airpressure increased, the belt would flex and have a lesser angle of attack to the airstream therefore reducing the drag but still allowing for a high pressure zone of air to be forced where you wanted it. In the case of airdams to force air through radiators, this stuff was great because you could run over anything without smashing the chit out of it on the first gutter or stop you nosed too far into. You could make a good scoop out of this stuff because when it was laid with the edge leading into the airflow it would be more than strong enough to duct the air but as far as wonmen whom had strayed from the kitchen and onto you're bonnet, the belt would deform and be soft as anything and obviously far softer than the material the bonnet was made from as specified in the regs. Also if the belting was laid right, it would be possible to have the stuff easily meet the height regs of the law but then when moving through the air, it could catch it and pop up to a far greater height and remain there untill the speed dropped back near stationary again. Would also seem pretty easy to control the height of a ridgid scoop with the aid of a small actuator like found all over cars these days running off boost pressure or vacuum. With boost the scoop would pop up to it's greater height once boost was achieved and with vac it could be automatic with engine start or manualy controlled. I'm pretty sure the cops don't measure the height of these things when the vehicle is in motion so this would be an easy way to comply with the regs as they stand. I'm motivated to find a bonnet and build one for the hell of it now!

My 91 gq fuel usage
That does Sound very reasonable. On a country trip with no load the best mine has done is 10L/ 100. When Loaded up with the family and crap it does about 12/12.5 When loaded up with the family, trailer and a ton of crap and being dragged over mountain ranges, It has Sucked 18. I think around the City is about 12 as well. I never really measure it much. Fueling the thing myself i'm only really interested in range rather than economy per se. The little frog car gets 6.5 Loaded to the gunwhales with the family and their crap on a country run and that's on Veg. Dino has a higher energy rate so it would be down to 6L/ 100 easy. You can go a long way on a 65L tank at either rate! Thats good because there isn't any room for loading in an extra 200L like I do with the troll but in any case I'd only need to load about half in for the same range.

Another Backflip on global Warming.
The wheels keep falling of the global boring Bullchit. "Two months ago, James Lovelock, the godfather of global warming, gave a startling interview to msnbc.com in which he acknowledged he had been unduly “alarmist” about climate change. The implications were extraordinary. Lovelock is a world-renowned scientist and environmentalist whose Gaia theory — that the Earth operates as a single, living organism — has had a profound impact on the development of global warming theory. Unlike many “environmentalists,” who have degrees in political science, Lovelock, until his recent retirement at age 92, was a much-honoured working scientist and academic. His inventions have been used by NASA, among many other scientific organizations. Lovelock’s invention of the electron capture detector in 1957 first enabled scientists to measure CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and other pollutants in the atmosphere, leading, in many ways, to the birth of the modern environmental movement. Having observed that global temperatures since the turn of the millennium have not gone up in the way computer-based climate models predicted, Lovelock acknowledged, “the problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago.” Now, Lovelock has given a follow-up interview to the UK’s Guardian newspaper in which he delivers more bombshells sure to anger the global green movement, which for years worshipped his Gaia theory and apocalyptic predictions that billions would die from man-made climate change by the end of this century. Lovelock still believes anthropogenic global warming is occurring and that mankind must lower its greenhouse gas emissions, but says it’s now clear the doomsday predictions, including his own (and Al Gore’s) were incorrect. He responds to attacks on his revised views by noting that, unlike many climate scientists who fear a loss of government funding if they admit error, as a freelance scientist, he’s never been afraid to revise his theories in the face of new evidence. Indeed, that’s how science advances." http://www.torontosun.com/2012/06/22/green-drivel So there is a surprise. The scientists that were so cock sure of themselves and sent the world into a panic and the biggest scam since Y2K and now doing a backflip. Now, I only I had the email addys of all the arseholes that called me foreverthing under the sun when I said this was a crock years ago and refuted their green band wagon hysteria. I'd sure like to rub their noses in who was right and all their highbrow carry on to anyone that didn't follow the green garbage mantra. Always amazed me how the soloution was always new expensive products and procedures but looking at things like simple waste reduction and efficency improvement was never though of. In 5 years time all this global save the planet green Bullchit will be seen for nothing more than the scam and crock of chit it's been all along.

Ugly Duckling Bonnet Scoop
How High is it at the front? You will get the real benifit over an inch because the first inch sees poor airflow due to the boundry layer of air clinging to the bonnet and would probably be heated anyway when the sun was shining on it. I'd like to do a Pro stock stye scoop where the inlet sits up above the bonnet. I know there is a law regarding the opening size of the scoop but not sure if there is a total height restriction. I'd like ot have the thing up about 1.5 inches then have the actual inlet above that. This would make the scoop most efficent from an airflow and air temp POV. Whether it would be legal enough to get away with however would be a different thing. For my little turbo Jobbie I'd like to do a frontmount cooler but there is no way to rout the pipes without some major re-engineering. Think I'll have to settle for a good water spray instead.

Locking up the Coral Sea, where will it end?
What the Fluck is it with all this " Lead the world" chit with crap that has no benifit to Australia? How about we lead the worls in sending bludging immagration jumper to the bottom of the sea or at least back to whenst they came? How about leading the world in a simple, fair tax system? How about leading the world in a technology the rest of the world will want to buy from us and will make this a better country? The last thing I heard the gubbermint wanted to lead the world in was carbon tax. Big flucking deal. The only thing that is going to lead the world in is making us a laughing stock. I don't really care if we trail the world in environmental issues because they are all a total and utter crock of chit. They talk about all this green save the planet crap while they run a desal plant dumping the water into the ocean or allow massive dumpings of new and unused products in land fill just because they are no longer current models or mandate the addition of ethanol to petrol supposedly because it's clean and green when in effect it takes more energy, resources and creates more emissions in the life cycle than just using straight petrol. It's all complete Bullchit. Fixing those few things above is going to do a hell of a lot more than all this green crap we keep getting shoved donw our throats. But of course, I'm too simplistic and don't take into account the bigger picture that there is money to be made in carbon tax and money to be lost in removing ethanol from petrol or terminating desal contracts.

What's the most Funerals You have been to in a year?
I spoke to my mate last night and we had a good talk. We did talk a lot about being there for one another and I told him how he had always been there for me and there was nothing I wouldn't do for him or was too much for him to ask. I reckon if there had been hidden camera's on the wall It would have been a sight. Two blokes that normally scare people on looks alone haveing a cry to one another like a couple of teenage girls. Maybe one day we'll be able to laugh about it, given the circumstances, probably not. He's never really lost anyone before and in my experience, those that haven't had any real grief till later in life don't tend to handle it easily shall we say. He's putting on the brave professional front as always but admitted it hadn't really hit home and he wasn't looking forward to when it did. Right now I feel for him in the waiting round till the funeral on Tuesday. That's the part I always hate the most. It's like all you can do is sit round and wait and twiddle your thumbs constantly thinking of something you are dreading but at the same time want to be over. Seems like years ago the funeral was about 3 days later, now it seems closer to a week. Too long IMHO. One thing my wife pointed out to me last night was that I had my funeral count for the year wrong. We have already been to 4 funerals this year, I forgot her 100 yo aunties. How bad is that? I didn't even remember someone we cared about and lost.

What's the most Funerals You have been to in a year?
Got word this morning that my mates mother passed away last night. Here comes Number 4. This is getting way beyond a joke. This mate has always been there when I needed him, hope I can give him the support he has given me but to be honest, I haven't got a clue how to do that. I don't want to be a pain in the arse but I don't want to let him down at this time either.

Ugly Duckling Bonnet Scoop
I think you may be wise to put some rubber edging around the inlet. I think the cops will be right onto those sharp corners and fine edges. If a pedestan went up on the bonnet ( they would be rs already, but...) they could be cut and further injusred by the scoop. that's how the cops will look at it I believe and you may have rego trouble with it as well. Ot Other than that, nothing like the satisfaction of making your own stuff especially when the commercial items are completely over priced.

LSD front diff
Car manufacturers don't like to make things simple and easy. You'd think there would be more profit in making and carrying less parts though.

COOLANT ????
I have always used the Castrol Concerntrate that comes in the Little white Tins. Dunno if it's The best or the worst but I have not had a coolant related failure in 25 years so I take it the stuff is up to the job. I think its about $8 a can so cheap enough.

Pork Belly
I have heard of pork belly but never had it either. From what I gather, it's very popular in some parts and a highly sought after cut. Might get the mrs to get a couple and cook them in the woodfired pizza oven. Did some ribs in that weekend before last. You could suck the meat off the bone with a drinking straw. Nothing like cooking in the traditional ways instead of gas and electric stoves.

WTF?
When I see something like that, The first thing I think is where the hell they get clothes to fit a deformity like that?? My kids godmother has a medical problem that gives her huge thighs and an extremely wide back side. She must nearly cry when she sees people doing this to themselves deliberately because I know she has cried enough over the way she is which there is nothing she or anyone else can do to give her a normal size arse.

I despair for Australia
Wrong time of year mate! Should plan it for December. Then the naked chicks can wear a santa hat and some tinsel and really cause the perpetually offended to have a heart attack. Have them walking round the Neighbourhood with their pet pig as well. With a bit of luck there will be a rush at the airport and a lot of houses on the market suddenly going real cheap. I think where I live, the suburb would become a virtual Ghost town.

Water to Air intercooler
Does the controller have a differential setting? If so you could have a 2nd probe doing ambient temps and the other doing the IC temps and set them so when the IC goes say 10oC above ambient, it will trigger your fan and pump. Otherwise you could set it to say 50 which should allow for summer temps and then if youwanted drop it a bit in winter for an extra buffer.

I despair for Australia
That is no exaggeration either! There are a load of Nigerians across the road a few doors up. The local busy body saw them moving in and they had just arrived in Australia only a few months before and had got the rental joint with Gubberminnt assistance. That was about 15 months ago. Pretty soon they had a late model Delica in the diveway to carry round the tribe that appeared shortly thereafter. Now there is a new Yellow WRX there and a New Pajero as well. And you are right about the gold chains too. You can see them miles off. I too would like to know how they are able to go from rags to more riches than I have so quick. Must be the fact that clearly NONE of them have jobs as evidenced by their constant comings and goings all day and well into the late night. What really shits me is how they get so much and the people born here get so fking little. Recently a friend of mine was retrenched after working for the same ( chit) company, ( Vodaphone) for 14 years. After using all her savings while looking for another job, she went to centrelink to see what benifits were available to her. The answer, Jack Chit. Because her BF is a truck driver and earns over $2k per week, of which about $1900 is spent on repayments, insurances etc, she gets nothing. They have a mortgage and she has NEVER been on the dole. Went straight from school into a full time job and has paid tax every week of her working life of 32 years. They came sooo close to loosing the house it wasn't funny and it was only beause the parents lent them money to tide them over they got through. How the fk is it that these people that land here having never contributed a bloody thing in their lives get money hand over fist but the people that are born here or arrived the right way and have been self funded without bludging anything off the gubbermint get fk all? It's ridicilous. Similar think happend to another mate about 3 years back. Arrived from mother england 27 years earlier on a company transfer, got citizenship etc all the right way and has never ben on the dole or got any extra benifit in his life. When he got hurt on the job and compo screwd him over and he was up chit creek, no benifits for fella, you're one of us now. If you were some unskilled cue jumper without a zac to their name we'd look after your every need. .... especially if you couldn't speak engiish. I think I'm going to learn Pekenese or Klingon or something as well. How many times Have I been up the hospital clinic in a crowded waiting room and some fker that has been here 10 years and still can't understand or be understood jumps the cue because " Interpreter " Patients take priority. The signs on the way tell you! Tell ya what, How about you learn the fking lanuage at one of the endless free classes you can attend and if you can't do that within 12 months of being here, you're chit out of luck because all Interpreter services expire after that. If your dying and can't commounicate that to anyone, you'll have plenty of time in whatever afterlife you believe in. Time the Country Hardnened the Fk up and stopped going out of it's way to entice every bludger and blood sucker to come here and keep on sucking from the system forever after.

I despair for Australia
Fk Me!! I reckon one woman could be responsible ffor the death of 1000 men if she walked the streets naked raound here for an hour. Then again, after seeing how some of these pigs carry on, there is a good chance she'd be raped 1000 times under some crap the perpetually offended would come up with. Just to be sure of her safety, I'd be more than happy to ride " Shotgun" . Literally. And I'd be taking quite a few boxes of filth repellant with me. Round here, I'd need it.

Google, Facebook, members of MyPatrol4x4?
Another reason why the only Facewaste account I have is under a dodgy name and I have no personal info on it. People are going to get their arses burned with all of this one day.

WTF?
I was under the impression that the silicone from a leaking breast implant could make a person very sick. How do they get away with putting it elsewhere in the body?
-
WTF?
Yeah, you're probably right but I guess it depends on what your talking about. There are the idiot white women that have so much surgery they look like cats or just straight out freaks but that's different to boob jobs, tummy tucks and other surgery which I'm sure they are the main patients for. I don't know any other group of women however that think having enormous arses is desirable or any other group of people that would go out of their way to exaggerate them so much. And from what I can tell the reason they do this is so they can shake them at guys or anyone with a camera like some sort of neanderthal mating ritual. To me it's not so much the actual thing they do, it's the stupid, nonsensical mentality they seem to have that makes looking like a moron more revered than looking like an intelligent and cultured human being. I mean some of them have corrupted the english lanuage to a point that it has become another lanuage all on its own and is completely incomprehensible to anyone that speaks any " regular" english in any way. I guess what gets me is so many of these black people have made absoloute " Bogan" into style to be held in some sort of esteem."uji To me it's just plain Dumb and neanderthal. They would do a lot better aspiring to the likes of their President or former secratary of state that are black and hold some of the most important jobs in the world than shaking their artificially fat arses like cave women. Anyway, that's all probably coming out wrong but I know what I mean even if no one else does.

Water injection.
Interesting question...... of which I had no idea as to the answer. I also wasn't really sure what caused Glazing in this instance so I looked it up. Isn't it amazing how quick an hour goes by when your learning somethng your interested in. I learnt what the cause of the glazing was and a realisation hit. With my recent decline in performance of the old girl , it seems the symptoms I read of, fit those of glazing more than the thing becoming loaded up with carbon as I suspected. I was seeing a lot of blue smoke which I put down to valves more than anything but since being back on the squirt, I have noticed this blue smoke has cleared right up. That seems to be a sign of glazing more over than coking although the 2 seem to be closely linked. In any case I would say the answer to the question is that it is highly likley that the WI would help with preventing and removing Cylinder glazing as I now understand to be the cause of it. Of course the great thing with WI is that you can fit it up so damn cheap, it's well worth giving it a go to prevent or fix any engine problem.

WTF?
Ya! With absoloutley no apologies to the politicaly correct, The stupiditiy of Americans, particularly the black Americans never ceases to amaze me with their complete and utter lack of brains and intelligence. My daughter walked in as I was reading the linked article and said " What the hell? That's disgusting" Which indeed it is. Honestly, these people are missing a chromosone or 2 the way they act. It seems the more neanderthal they carry on, the more their culture holds them in esteem.

Hungry Jacks grilled chicken burger
YES!!! I'm 6'2 and shes 5'0. WTF was I thinking???? She can't reach what is barely over my eye level. Thank god the kids got my height Genes not hers. I think they were both taller than mum by the time they were 10. My Niece and her very decent BF who I like and get on well with seem to be getting serious but have a similar Height differential. I told him a few weeks back, You are a great young guy and would be an asset to the family but fer christ sakes mate, think carefully! You'll have a lifetime of back pain from bending over as well as every day of frustration having to get things off shelves you cannot believe they cannot reach. I told him surely there must be some properly sized women out there by now and you won't have to go through what I have for the last 20 years. My wife hit me. Then my Niece hit me. They are fiestly little things these vertically challenged knomes and a straight punch can land right were it really hurts on a tall bloke. Is it at all weird that I find the simple act of being able to stand up straight and look a woman in the eyes without bending my back somewhat arousing? Maybe it's the absence of back pain from bending over that does it?

More Snatch Strap Dangers
OK, admitting probably ignorance...... But isn't the danger in the strap and the stored inertia? I would imagine if you snatched/ towed with a chain and the towball snapped there would be no stored energy to propel it, the thing would just fall to the ground. May jump a bit but only a couple of feet because there is little elasticity in chain. If that is the case and the idea itself of snatching from the towball as one may get the impression it is OK to do with a strap, then I get that.
