  1. I'm really dissapointed and frustrated. I seem to have a lot of trouble connecting with my 17 yo son. He doesn't seem to be interested in anything bar computer games, facewaste and his sport. He's supposed to be getting his P plates in a few weeks and he has to be one of the most mechanically inept kids I have met and i have to say that causes me great sadness. He had a Victa engine he used to pull apart and re assemble when he was 5 and could name every component in it. Was all he could do to fit the barrel to the crankcase but he used to insist on doing it unaided. Now he couldn't tell you WTF was what on the thing. I try to teach him things but after you drag him outside, he puts in a half hearted effort of standing around rather than showing any interest then makes an excuse to leave, generally he has to visit the outhouse, then you don't see him again. I cracked my nut the other week when he threw a hissy fit when I refused to help him change the blown down light in his bedroom and made him figure it out. Which he didn't before giving up and having a sulk. I'm not unrealistic. I grew up with no one to show my jack, what I learnt I learnt all on my own the hard way. When the lawn mower stopped I figured out how to fix the thing or I cut the lawn with scissors because there was no money to pay someone. Same with tap washers, blown fuses, general home maintence and repairs and then fixing cars when I got one. You did it yourself or you did without! Even my son said to me the other week, " When I get a car, if it stops no matter how small a problem I'm going to be fked aren't I? " I said you sure are because there is no way in hell I'm going to be coming to fix things you should know how to do yourself. He works at the Local KFC, Not the Infamous no bacon one but another a little further out and is having trouble with the manager whom admittedly would have trouble running a piss up in brewery. He's bit of a metro and like spending money on clothes and shoes and is always complaining he isn't getting ahead saving up, mainly for the car he's buying off his grandfather. He paid the old man a deposit on it the other week and the old fella told me not to worry, he'll look after him. He's already taken the thing off the lot and sold it to the young fella for a grand less than he was asking which is a damn cheap price. I told my father not to give it to him or anymore than he already had. It's his first big purchase and I don't want him thinking things come easy like this or someone is going to hand him things on a silver platter. I want him to feel some pain and know he's earn't what he gets. What I'm really upset about is something I was setting up for him that he has just blown off like a spoilt bitch. This last week I saw an opportunity for a business and have been crunching the numbers on it and made some enquiries that have all been positive. I could set him up in this part time weekend business and he'd HAVE to make a minimum $1k a weekend for a day and a halfs work and I really think he'd pull closer to $2k on average. It's a photography gig that would be dead simple, Shoot the players in a spot and print them for when they are done and sell them. He knows how to do this already. He's been doing the printing with me for the last 3 years and he's shot events like Equine world cups as well as all sorts of high end comps and has a good eye. This would be a piece of pi$$ for him but when I have approached him about it, all I get is the immediate sigh, disinterest and whining that " He isn't interested in Photography". I have to admit that really ticks me off. I'm not interested in cleaning dunnys either but if someone offered me a job that would really amount to no more than about 3 hours work, 2 days a week and paid me $1500+, I'd flucking trip over myself to get there, especially when I was working in some shitty hot grease pit for $10 an hour. Make no sense at all to me. And that's what I say to him, " Are you interested in working in a greasy, hot chicken joint dealing with moron bosses and idiot customers? Is that something you enjoy?" " If not, what the Fk is so bad about an easy clean job taking and printing pics???" What also ticks me off is the opportunity in life he's wasting. At even a grand a week, 12 months in he could buy himself a unit, rent it out while he is living at home and own the thing by the time he's 21 and be on his 2nd investment property. By 25 he'd be set for life. He's lazy but he does have an excellent work ethic. The spys from KFC head office are regularly sending his mismanager comments about him and some even " Break Cover" and compliment and commend him on how hard he works and what a good job he does. At home he's lazy as hell and when working with me, everything is done as fast and dodgy as possible so we can get back to looking at chit on his phone or some other brainless endeavour. Those POS Iphoneys have a Fking lot to answer for in rotting the brains of a whole generation of otherwise intelligent kids. I am frustrated he can't see the opportunity in this and the ignorant chit he goes on with just because it's dad suggesting it. Dad may be a moron but Dad left home at 12, school at 15 and OWNED his own home by 27 so he must know some bloody thing. Here he is at 17 and barely knows his arse from his elbow although often carries on like there isn't anything he doesn't now. Even if saving for a house is a bit pie in the sky for him at this stage,( dunno why, my mate bought his first house at 18 and owned it by 23) he could earn a stack of money for clothes, going out, a better car or whatever the hell he wanted. I'd be pretty happy with that if he were running his own show and learning about life and money. This is a great opportunity and I'd do it myself if I didn't have bigger fish to fry but I might just see if I can find a couple of other kids with more brains than my son and do it anyway and have them run it and I'll just take whatever is left over. I'll bet there would be plenty of kids out there willing to do it for $150 a day. Anyway, just wanted to vent my frustration at my apparent failure as a parent. I'll try to put it out of my head now as its really disappointing and makes me angry as well. I think most of all i'm just really bummed, dissapointed and sad.

HAHA! Could you Imagine that!! I bet I would have the shortest term of any PM in history! Then again, Our parliamentary sessions might be the only ones broadcast world wide. Everyone likes a bit of biffo especially when it was moron Pollies getting their butts kicked! The one and possibly ONLY saving grace I would have as PM would be that it would be impossible to do a worse job that what these pelicans are doing already. Then again on the upside, I guess it would be bloody hard NOT to make some improvements by nothing more than the application of common sense and a view to doing what was really best for the country and it's people. That one goal alone should put me ahead of the current and future clowns. Maybe people would recognise and like what I was trying to achieve and I'd stay in a while. Maybe the greedy business sector would have me out on my arse before I knew what happened for not playing the game.
  3. How much grunt do you want?? I'd try winding up the turbo and the pump and see what Improvement you get. Diesels usually have a lot of untapped potential just with the stock components. Sure there is a lot more to be had with a heap of mods but there are worthwhile gains that can be had for nothing as well. I'd say you have done the most benificial mod already in the exhaust. The snorkel, Performance wise I'd not be the slightest bit surprised if that was actually a detriment. I wound up my little Pug on the boost and fuel and the thing is holding it's own with V8's now. It's no powerhouse but it's a light little thing and the torque is amazing. If I have it rolling in first with the clutch fully out and stand on it, it just breaks traction. In 2nd and 3rd when the boost hits properly, the clutch slips if its rolling too slow when the boost hits. Only thing I have done is Modify the airbox by taking out some internal baffles and putting in bigger inlets and transfer Pipes. I also threw out the stock Muffler and fitted one off a V8 Commodore to give it more flow. Total mod cost is under $50 and it goes Damn well. I also played with my mercs turning up the pump on those and while they were still slugs, the performance increase was significant and made for a lot nicer car to drive. I have never found a vehicle yet that can't be improved to some degree with little to no money spent but diesels seem to be totally under rated from the factory to their potential. Turning up the fuel is a simple no cost job and has a lot of potential right there. I think if you made the most of what you already have, you'd find there is still a lot of worthwhile gains to be made without spending silly money on the thing.
  4. The GU may have a direct system as a lot of the newer cars do but the GQ does not for anyone installing a system on one of those. How hot does your shower water get and can you get away with one pass on cold water at this time of year?

Are you sure that's Right? Sounds a real ripoff. You are paying about twice what I do per Kwh. I thought the renewable power had to be paid at a decent rate? I understand there was a scheme which paid higher ( pretty sure my mate get's .60c KWH) but 6C is ridiculous! Is this part of paying back the cost of the panels themselves? Are you on an in/ out separate meter system or does your solar array feed back into the main house supply and you only draw from the grid the excess you need? I have " Heard" of someone that runs a veg fired generator that backfeeds in to the mains. Using an induction motor as a generator the thing Phase locks to the frequency and having the field energised by the grid, the thing can't Island and be a danger either. By switching over to a C2C setup, the system can be self sufficient if the main power is isolated. By backfeeding directly into the household supply, the power runs everything in the home to it's max capacity and any shortfall is made up from the grid. When the power generated is excess to requirements, the meter spins backwards. In this way you get the same rate for the power you make as the power you use which is only fair. It used to be that even with free fuel self generation wasn't worthwhile but now with the advent of excessive power prices, The availability of cheap engines and using Low cost induction motors, things are changing. Perhaps in my next place I'll have a high current circuit or 2 put in and have an set up a big system so I can pump some significant juice in and not have to run the genny for hours trickling in the power. That's the trouble with DIY generation. You use the power 24/7 but running a genny those hours is impractical. The way to do it is to pump back a lot of power in a shorter time to compensate for the longer lower draw. The Mrs has given me the Green Light to Import a Lister engine though so 12 hours a day plus runs at lower outputs may not be such a problem then. Maybe I'll put serious effort into finding a place with a decent running water supply from a creek. It would pay well to set up a micro Hydro system and have that back feed into the grid even if it were just a couple of KW. Running 24/7 would add up nicely. I wonder what the hoops would be to setting up things on an approved basis and if something like a micro Hydro would qualify for renewable energy grants/ bonuses/ tariffs?
  6. My 7 machines definitely run better than the XP's but I still clag them up after about a week. I have put Server 2008 on a few of my workstations as well as the servers of course and find that's the most robust of all. It's lacking in a few things like playing videos and showing pic icons but as a real workhorse they are pretty impressive. I did find I was having to reboot more frequently than I should but found that was being caused by Fire fox. I have gone to Chrome over the last week and a bit and find the problem has disappeared and the machines are much faster on the net.
  7. The only time I haven't been able to get windoze drivers is when the equipment is too old and really needs to be put out to pasture. Yeah sure it may work perfectly well and you paid $500 for that scanner or whatever but the reality is you can now buy one for under $100 that eats it for breakfast in terms of speed, image quality, software integration and functions. I too have made the mistake of hanging on to old equipment only to upgrade and then wonder why the hell I held on to the old stuff so long and didn't get the newer far better gear years sooner. I learned the lesson with printers a couple of years back when I went to buy a heap for my business. I wanted a good photo quality machine and was looking at them at the photo show. The sales person who turned out the state manager pointed out this thing with a rec retail of $199 and told me I could pick it up for about $149. It was only that he gauranteed me a refund IF I wasn't happy I even bothered trying them. I bought one at office works on the way home for $129 and the thing was better, faster and just a superior machine to the 4 yo one I had I paid a grand for. I have 6 of the new cheapies now and they have been flogged printing 1000's of A4 prints literally and haven't given me a moments trouble. . I wasn't really convinced a $200 machine would outdo a $1000 machine 4 years older but there is clearly no doubt at all. One thing I have noticed though is the printers that have come out since all have the same print engine although some have different cartridges. As the sales manager told me the company make over 50 of their net profit on all the companies wide ranging products and markets just from ink, I take it this is to stop people like me saving many thousands by using the bulk ink systems. I'm just about to buy another 8 printers and have noticed while the quality hasn't changed much ( I don't know how it could get better) the price has got lower again. I'll buy the extended replacement warranties for $20 and when they die I'll get a new one for free. The drivers of course are backwards compatible with any flavour of windoze after 95. As far as camera's go, give them to the kids to play in the sandpit with as soon as they get to 3 Yo. I can buy Camera's now for $600 that Crap all over the pro Camera's I bought for $5-8K only 5 years before. I was hanging on to them and then when I discovered what the middle of the road amateur models will do I was stunned. I quite enjoy running round with my toy camera's now and am a lot more relaxed that if something happens to them I don't care and knowing that the image quality is just as good as my cams costing 5x+ as much. I often run round with cheap amateur cams doing pro work while the amateurs run round with pro camera's trying to look the part but still taking amateur level pics. My kids go on school excursions swinging old Pro SLR's off their necks freaking people out but in reality the cheap lens I bought to put on them would be of more concern to loose than the cam itself. Just looking, none of my current Camera's or printers come with Linux Drivers on the included Disks. They all have Crapple and Windoze however. I haven't played with Linux for some years however when I did I found it was an interesting toy but not time efficient as a working OS. Now I fully understand that I needed to better learn the way it works but that's kind of the problem in itself. There is little reason to spend the time learning something that I already know in another system and spending time on that when I could be using that time earning money. I believe that Linux is in fact a better system than Windoze BUT, the factors of compatibility with other equipment, the learning curve in getting to know what is a specialist system and the fact that you have to know windoze anyway if you are working with computers rather than just using one at home for ME makes the Linux system less Viable even if it is better. I might get around to having another look and play with it one day and seeing what the latest flavour is like but really, the benefits would have to be bloody significant to make all the other hassle of using it worthwhile.
  8. Windoze Sucks but it sucks less than other systems. I'm waiting for the next server software to arrive. I guess when 8 hits there will be a mad rush to get it so people can get stuck with all the bugs and glitches. That's why with anything new like that I wait 12 months for the service packs and updates that are large then the original program itself to fix the bugs so it runs properly. Dunno about difficulty finding windoze Drivers but I'd sure hate to try and find drivers for Linux for my camera's, printers and to get most of my editing and production software to run on it. I can't for the life of me figure how people browse and post on sites using their phones. I tried it and it drove me nuts in 2 min flat. Some people are either patient or desperate I think!

I just happened to be searching for something totally unrelated and came across this on the carbon tax website.... Over half the money raised from the carbon price will be used to assist households. Nine in 10 households will receive a combination of tax cuts and payments to help with the costs of the carbon price. What sort of flucked up tax has to be given away in order to compensate the people it affects? And it seems to me if more than half is being given away, how much is the cost of administration and controlling that? Another thing that occurred to me is the amount of brochures and literature produced on this. How much energy and resources were expended on that which would not have otherwise and created less carbon emissions than have been through the introduction of this tax in the first place? And that is just from the Gubbermint, what about the companies and businesses affected? There must be a chit load more energy and emissions expended by them as well. Now here is some typical spin doctoring on the website: Q. Where will the money raised from the carbon price go? A. More than half of the money raised will be used to assist households. The majority of households will receive tax cuts, increased assistance payments or both. With the rest of the money, the Government will be supporting jobs in the most affected industries and investing in our clean energy future. OK, so far there is no mention of what the money will be spent on as far as actually Doing anything for the environment, reducing emissions etc. This has been a sticking point with me all along..... What will the money specifically be used for? So I dig a bit deeper in and click on the link above about supporting industries and jobs. And I find this golden Nugget.... The Government will allocate around 40 per cent of carbon price revenue to help businesses and support jobs. HUH?? The first headline I found said the gubbermint will spend over half the tax assisting households. Now this bit says 40% will be used to support jobs and industry. So if we take the first statement of " Over Half" to it's lowest possibility, 51% and 40% is going to assist jobs, that leaves all of a piddling 9% at very best to help the environment. After administration etc of this debacle. Are these people Fking insane and have lost the plot completely? Being of a definite non political mentality, If it were me, i'd have just increased an existing tax a small amount so not everyone needed to be compensated and a similar amount of money could have been raised without all the criminal wastage of red tape etc. But clearly I am burdened by an proclivity to do things as simply, cheaply, efficiently and practically as possible which precludes me from ever making any sort of political representative or official. So Looking at the carbon scam price further I see a video tellng me that the pollouters will be charged for their carbon emissions and that the price of some things will go up but I'll be compensated for them. So if I'm paying more with the left hand and someone is giving me more money with the right, then isn't the price effectively the same so there is no incentive for either myself or the producer of said product to actually reduce emissions if their sales are the same? Someone make sense of this idioticy for me!! Now the one place I can see this biting us all on the arse is Imports. All of the sudden, the little curry muncher from Chindia who doesn't even have any emissions laws to comply with from basic sewrage/ sanitation suddenly has an even bigger gap between the price of what he can produce by bellowing all sorts of crap out that hasn't been allowed in Oz for 50 years and can either send local businesses to the wall or force the work to be done offshore. Now Foolia and co may not have noticed but there are no barriers or borders for air or water or anything else. We all breathe from the same big blue bag so Wether you create carbon emissions here or 10,000 miles away, the effect on the planet is all the same. I'm sure that would seem obvious to anyone bar a one eyed pollie. Honestly, I thought there may have been some benefit I missed in my ignorance but the more I look into this The more absoloutley retarded, illogical, laughable and downright criminal it becomes. How anyone, green flea brain or otherwise can support this as having any upside is totally beyond me. I thought it was just an excuse for a gubbermint cash cow but I can't even see that being a worthwhile possibility at this stage. Really, we only have ourselves to blame. We support this moronic concept of politics, we vote these clowns in and we let them fluck us up like this and the future of our kids with barely a whimper. What we should do is offer them bonuses for schemes that do work and floggings or public stoning for the ones that don't. In other words, our pollies need some incentive and motivation to do their job with the interests of the people and the country they are working for and being paid by. Then see how their performance in running the country improves over night and what sort of a good idea this crap tax is.

Politics is the biggest crock of Shit Played on the worlds population there is. The people that get in are done so through their merit in a popularity contest. You never see one of them in a campaign saying " My experience is this that and the other and I was able to increase the profits, decrease the expenditure, make this or that better through these innovations " Or anything like a real job candidate would have to put forth. IT's useless asking their intentions because they lie throught their arse and have no problem saying one thing before and doing a complete turn around as soon as they are in. The biggest qualification is who can smile best for the camera's, Kiss arse as well as babies and has the most friends in high places to bankroll their popularity contest. Not even decent looks are a remote requirement given how most of them look like complete dorks and nerds rather than leaders. If a hot chick ever ran for PM shed be in for as long as her looks held out no matter how blonde right through she might be. At least people could have a laugh and know her mismanagement wasn't deliberately screwing them over. Any sensible initiatives that may be put forward by overpaid consultants and advisers are always tarnished with what might be popular or put the most money in the pollies and friends in high places pockets. They lie and cheat and talk chit they Damn well know is not true than blame each other and carry on like school girls. The whole concept of politics is rotten to the core. The whole thing as far as I'm concerned is an insult to peoples intelligence. The best you can hope ( usually in vain ) for is the next lot of lying, thieving clowns you put in will by some miracle be better than the last lot. Generally those hopes are dashed quickly. The bit I love the most is by definition more people voted for them than didn't but 6 months to a year in no one will admit to having put them in. I have never voted for a major party, I usually vote for the nuttiest sounding on the paper because at the beginning Stage they are usually the most honest and by not having a hope in hell of getting in, I can thumb my nose at the whole pathetic joke without getting a fine sent to me for not voting at all. I wonder if when I move if I don't change my address or whatever I can get out of the whole miserable insult to my intelligence without getting copped. When those that are in charge of the country can show their actual skills, aptitude and ability for the job they are given, then maybe I'll take it seriously. Right now the kid at the drive through window at the local grease pit would have a better idea of running the country than the clowns we have in now or are likely to get in the future. How about we lead the world by having polies that will actually do the best for the country and the people rather than themselves or their self serving agenda's? Instead of showing the world our idiotic carbon crock, what about showing the most consistent economic growth, the most consistent standard of living increase, the lowest taxation, the highest employment rates, the best public health and aged care systems, the highest education standards, Lowest overseas deficit, the best sustained growth rates in industry, manufacturing, technology....... Fk, if they want to set examples there is no shortage of USEFUL endeavours they could embark on that would make us look good not like morons.

Minerals Council of Australia: Australia’s carbon tax starts generating $77.3 million per week from today. New figures from the Centre for International Economics show that Europe’s emissions trading scheme — which covers 30 nations — has generated $23m per week so far in 2012. And the temperature won’t move a flicker.
  12. I wonder what good they really do. I signed it last time round anyway. I think given this is the start of the carbon tax era, we should all celebrate by burning some tires or 10L or so of sump oil. If we are going to pay for these emissions, may as well get some value for our money.
  13. I agree Whole Heartedly. Same as if you want the Computer Fixed or the timer on the DVD/ Video set. My son got to drive his Uncles New Mercedes Convertible the other week for setting the clock on the thing that had even defied the dealers attempts. Deal was you set the clock, you can take it for a drive. Clock setting did take a good 10 min, drive took a lot longer! One thing with asian meals is they make cheap MRE's ( meals ready to eat) for hiking etc. Some you just throw into hot water to warm them up, others you just add boiling water. They are of course always asian style meals but you can get them for a few bucks in the asian grocery shops where the " Proper" MRE's cost a fortune.

My Uncle takes his cows to the backyard Butchers and gets the whole thing cut up and bagged for the freezer for $50. Upside of living in a country town.
  15. Yeah, Like the bottles that my grandmothers life dependent medication came in that resisted her every effort to open. She wasn't the only one in the neighborhood that couldn't get into their pills either.

  19. I don't have much issue with food packaging. What gets on my goat is F*#king blister packaging on small items that is about 30x30 Cm larger than the items itself. You either nearly destroy the product or cut your hands to pieces trying to remove the product you bought before filling the bin with the crap that came with it that you don't want. The one food packaging issue I have is plastic bags. They seal them up so when you go to pull the top open in the correct way, the bags require so much force that when they do yield, they do so with such suddenness that the contents are ejected all over your kitchen floor in a semi explosive fashion... I think this may be a cunning plan to sell more product.
  20. If I'm understanding right, what about some velcro strips in Lieu of the foam/ Blu tack? You can get it in strips with self adhesive backing and when the sides are brought together it does provide some cushioning.
  21. It's a wet coil type exchanger so any trapped air would be bugger all and not enough to have any real influence. If you drove it home from the installers, it's purged. The connection is correct although even if it were backwards it wouldn't matter. That is more theroetical than practical. Only thing that could influence your output on the system would be if the heater control wasnt set to full hot which would restrict coolant flow. I noticed on the glind site they recommended pre heating the water, 20L which they said was good for 2 showers. Wanna be quick showers is all I can say. If you wanted to do a shower at a 5L/min flow rate with a temp rise as I calculated of 35o, the fact is the glind HE is going to be struggling. The capacity is there, I think the effeciency of the HE they use is mismatched. If you had a 20l Min flow of coolant, No probs. As it's likley to be far less, I think that's why the temp rise is insuffient. If you measured the temp diff between in and out ( don't put the out back to the inlet source) and the ACTUAL flow rate, then you could easily calculate the EFFECTIVE capacity you are getting. For a 35o heat rise @ 6.5l min you need to be sinking 15KW of energy into the output. The glind is rated at 19. I can't remember the efficency of those type HE's but I do know it's not great that's why in commercial applications everyone uses FP HE's these days and have for some time. To be up to the job, not only the Glind HE but the whole system would have to be 80% efficent. I don't even need to crunch the numbers to know it's not a bulls roar near that.
  22. 3.3 GPH is about 13L 300ml min is about 18L I'd say 3.3gph is a good safe rate. Given your application, I'd say going lower that the 300ml I use would be better. Why the idling? Why not turn the thing off or are you trying to power lights etc so you don't get falt batteries?
  23. I'd be looking at buying a trailer. Seems that's going to be hard on your interiour no matter how careful you are and wrap it up.
  24. Damn, I spent way too much time looking into this!!! I thought the numbers looked iffy, so I did do the maths and now know they are. Heres the summary, the rable is later. Short, short Summary: I believe the Glind HE is both too small and too inefficent to provide a one pass shower on cold water. I calculated on 5o water being heated to 40o with the calculated water flow through a coolant circuit and at an utput of 6.5L min for the shower. I would guess actualy it's coser to 5 or less but anyway. The efficency of the system calculates to the results being reported. On warmer water 20oC where the temp rise required is much less, then things would obviously be different. Longer summary and rabble: From what I can see on the glind site the HE they use is 65,000 BTU. IMHO that's a marginal output for the job required. For a flow rate of 6.5L min with say a 35o temp rise, the system is going to need to be operating at 100% efficency with next to no heat losses. Never going to happen. The othe thing is the efficency of the HE they use is not wonderful. It means that the amount of hot water flow needed to get the cold side up is probably going to be a lot greater than most cars would do through the cooling circuit so you will never get full HE output on the cold side. That said, if the water flow is hooked up right and not diverted off to the turbo or wherever, then the system should be doing a lot better than what your seeing. Where does your Shower get it's heat from in the coolant circuit? IF the system has a water diversion "T" fitting, You need to have the T AFTER the shower HE so all the coolant must run through it then give it the option to go through the heater coil or straight back to the engine. If you T before the HE, then the HE itself will cause a restriction to the water flow and the water will want to do everything in can to avoid going through the HE and giving up its heat. I would check the shower connections and trace the path of the coolant. For best efficency, you need to make sure that the hose comes off the engine, to the shower HE, to the T ( and on a 4.2 without a T the shower will only activate when the heater is turned on) or the heater core. If there is a T before the HE anywhere, move so it is after the water goes through the shower. If there is no T, make sure the temp control on your heater is set to max. The fan can ( and would be better) be off, but the temp control regulates the water flow and if that's not wide open you'll be pi$$ing into the wind. If say your water is cold, 5 C and you want to heat it to say 40 c at a flow of 6.5L min ( will be less actual flow if thatls the pumps rating) you need about 15Kw of heat transfer. Obviously the engine is not putting that much power at idle but like I said, if the engine is already up to heat at say 80oC , the thermal mass is way more than enough to get that sort of temp rise. If you can't get the water up to 40C from 5 in one pass, either the HE is pitifully sized ( seems marginal in actual fact) or the water flow through the engine/ heater core is blocked. You may need more revs to move the water faster or T the coolant back to the engine to decrease the restriction through the heater core and increase the flow rate. This could be achieved by splicing a 3/4 ball valve across the heater inlet and outlet and opening the valve when showering. Don't mean to piss on anyoes parade but looking at the numbers, a 30 Plate FPHE would cost around $130 delivered and have more than double the heating capacity of the glind HE. Couple that up with a pump, get your showerhead etc and I believe you would have a FAR superiour system that would give you shower temps on par with engine temps single pass straight through. You should also have a fair bit of change in your pocket. For those that have a glind shower they are not happy with ( Sorry!) You could look at offloading the HE which seems over priced and substitute a 30 plate FPHE. Given the Glind HE is twice the price of a 30 plate, you shouldn't be out of pocket but you will find yourself in hot water... much hotter and happier than before. A 30 Plate FPHE has about a 40KW heating capacity. The glind is under 20 and has a much worse efficency rating meaning there has to be a lot more water flow on the hot side to get to that capacity than what a FPHE would require. In this case where engine water flow is a strong consideration, The FPHE would be probably worth 4 times what a Glind HE is. With a 30 Plate FPHE on a 6.5l min flow, that's enough to give an 88oC temp rise so your shower will be whatever the engine temp is providing you can get about an 8L min flow through the hot side. Of course not needing an 88 C temp rise, 4-5 L a min would be enough. Hope all this helps someone.
  25. The pump would be good. What Nozzle you plan on using? If' it's the micro mist garden sprayer type I think you are going to have to put in a bleed with a tap so you can tak off some of the volume/ pressure to get back to a flowrate you want. From memory the nozzles are rated at 5 or 10 PSI @300Ml min . I don't think you would want to go over 300Ml min particularly in this application. set everything up and then just manually activate the system to squirt into a jar for 15 sec, measure the output, quadruple it and you have your flow rate. You could also lower your flowrate but also lower the point at which it kicked in if it's hard for you to get the engine doning much for long periods. Better IMHO to get some smaller amount of water going in at lower load where the engine can handle it that waiting for enough engine load to fire more in when that dosen't happen much. I think in the cleaning aspect, the water is relevant to fuel used more than anything. I find an overall average of 10% water to fuel is a good guide. Again this is average because my WI comes in at near full tilt but that probably accounts for 1% or less of my fuel consumption but obviously 100% of my water consumption. in a system that worked more frequently, I'd also think that somewhere around 5% water to fuel would be ok because all you need to do is prevent any buildup and frequentl applications and having the WI run through a wider driving range should help. If you are planning on using meth, that seems to have a much improved cleaning effect so I think you could get away with less of a mix with that as well. If you use 5-10L of water for every 100 of fuel, you are there. All you have to do is set up the system so the water is activated frequently though intermittently as possible through your driving range. I don't understand what sort of driving your Pilot work requires. You mentiond long idling periods but what about the driving? I get the impression this would be mainly slow speed, light engine load? After long idle periods I would reccomend stcking the boot in through the gears where possible and get the spray happening and the engine working a bit. I have seen some impressive smoke rings out of my cars after being stuck in extended traffic jams then getting free of them. No doubt idling does load them up with unburnt deposits. In your case if you can blow and wash them out before they get a chance to set up hard, I think you'll have no worries.
