  1. http://celebrities.ninemsn.com.au/blog.aspx?blogentryid=1015184&showcomments=true Justin Bieber has told of how he knocked himself out backstage at a concert in Paris this week. Speaking to TMZ over the phone, the pop teen says he ran into a glass panel between songs, bumping his head hard. The Bieb went on with the show, despite feeling dizzy, but as soon as he returned to his dressing room he passed out cold. Justin suffered a concussion, but doctors checked him out and told him he'd be fine. Amazingly, this is the third time he's smacked his head on a glass window or door. In two separate incidents in 2010, the teenager collided with a revolving glass door a…

An interesting article from the Weekly Times: http://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/article/2012/05/30/488991_national-news.html. My uncle was a dairy farmer who also grew hay and timber for sale, and my brother-in-law was a dairy and sheep farmer; they called it a lifestyle, I use to call it a life sentence. Most city people have no idea what goes into farming; without farmers we couldn't exist, but it's not a life I could ever have handled. Cheers Ray

The gorgeous Argentine model Zaira Nara is something of a code-hopper as far as WAGs go, having been engaged to Uruguayan footballer Diego Forlan in 2011. For now though, it seems Nara is football’s loss and tennis’ gain. http://wwos.ninemsn....ira-nara.glance

...or is a generational thing? http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/woman-robbed-after-facebook-posting-of-cash/story-e6frfku0-1226369659825 Is common sense (which hasn't always been that common) been completely flushed down the toilet? Don't kids (or someone who is a year or less from voting age) learn anything from the failures experienced by others with their postings? Cheers Ray

  6. Started by Glort,

I have been watching a heap of camera gear on Fleabay over the last week or so and never cease to be amazed at what people pay for 2nd hand stuff. This morning I saw a lens go for $8 less than I saw it in to retail shops in the city for. The place I normally buy from which is an online with a shopfront in north Sydney had the same lens about $40 cheaper brand new with warranty. I have seen numerous exampls of this over the last week with a camera bodt and a lens going for more than you can buy them for at a load of places. This is all off the shelf stuff as well, not something hard to get like a $12K lens that no one keeps in stock. I have a list of the stuff w…

It's interesting to see that car manufacturers are begining to install systems that have been available in the aftermarket for a while now: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/auto-blog/nissan-easy-fill-tire-alert I wonder if this takes into account cold tyres pressures and hot tyre pressures? Also, it would be very annoying if you're deliberately dropping pressures because of road conditions. And what happens when you replace a tyre/rim combination that doesn't have a sensor installed? Cheers Ray

..or not: http://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/article/2012/05/31/489525_latest-news.html I find it amazing that there is resistance to levees, considering the huge cost that floods impose on towns. If people are unwilling to help themselves, then I don't see why taxpayers have to bail them out when disaster strikes, as eventually it will once again. Cheers Ray

Ok. I'm looking at making a stainless snorkel for the GQ.. I have posted here as I have a few flaws in my plan and what to discuss them.. Flaw no.1. Size.. I do realize size does matter and this is my first hurdle.. I have a few 3' elbows in the shed but I'm wondering if there to small? I have been told 5' but that would be massive IMO... What about 4'? Would need to source the lot but we have a scrap yard and the local paper mill is pulling Ss pipe out all the time.. Flaw no.2. Entry into bonnet The preformed elbows are quite large in 3' and can only assume bigger again in 4'.. I don't want to remove to much body, but I don't want the snorkel hanging 100mm off …

I'm all for conservation etc, but some of the things that our eco-worriers (not warriors) do, beggars belief. Example One: Cute, but once the cardboard absorbs moisture etc and no longer looks pretty, what happens? The whole lot, battery, clock mechanism etc are binned. Recycled, biodegradable?. Example Two: So to recycle a cardboard lid, one also puts to use a pile of new materials (and what Greenie is going to give up their hair shirt). Why not just pull a piece of string from Point A to Point B on a wall or such and be really eco-friendly (I actually did that so my wife could hang her stuff in the bathroom). Example Three: So it only us…

If there's one company that I detest more than any other, by a long shot, it's Google. There has never been such an intrusive/invasive organisation in existence - ever. An example is what happened just now when I updated Flash (a crap program if ever there was one) and in the process Google Toolbar was installed without an option to not install. In fact it installed before Flash did. So once the install was finished, I immediately uninstalled the Toolbar, but to uninstall you have to go to the Google site and answer a series of questions, to which I simply answered 'fuck off' and only after submitting the response, did the unistall complete. I'm not sure what the legal…

  24. Probably the most interesting thing that I've made started out as something simple, but then took over a life of its own until this eventuated: What it is, is a flatbed microscope, which I've called the Olympus Electric Macroscope (mainly because it contains Olympus camera bits). It all started with a set of macro bellows and a simple sheet of steel that I wanted to use as a sturdy, anti-vibration, base. Then I saw some stuff on the web about Steampunk (modern devices converted to look like things from the early 1800s) and that was it. Everything was hand built from raw materials except for the camera, bellows, an old microscope base and the electronic controll…
