Well, maybe it's time to start a fishing section and see how it goes. I'll start it off with one of my best pics taken a while back GT fishing, doing another trip soon so will have more pics. For anyone who hasn't fished for these extremely tough, brutal monsters, the only thing I can say as an analogy would be throw a lure at a speeding freight trian and try to hang on. Can't wait to get back into it.

As above im getting bored shitless on the weekends. Trying to get the missus out is hard yakka sometimes, then we need the van, which i then prefer a long weekend, but shes got this stupid f@rkin poodle with diabetes that needs a shot twice a day!! And im sick of it and sittin around waiting for it to bloody die! Its 16 years old now at least, ive hated its guts ever since the day it walked in to our house, i took it back to the owners a few times and it kept coming back to our place so my silly wife fell in love with it (14 years ago), i shoulda took it to the pound straight away, its caused us a lot of hassles going camping/holidaying etc over the years! So ive…

With the carbon tax to stab us in the neck on 1 July, electricity and gas prices are going to cost more in a year than a night out with Craig Thompson on your credit card. So today, we finally had a wood fireplace installed to replace our gas, mock wood, fireplace. A 45kg gas bottle was lasting about a week or so, at the fire's lowest setting and run for no more than 4 hours a day, and costing us $127 a refill. We were going broke just trying to keep warm. It just makes one wonder, the more we have advanced technologically in the last 200+ years, the more we now seem to be regressing to what was the norm 200+ years ago. Cheers Ray

I just experienced my first earthquake ever. I had no idea what was happening, the entire house was shaking and there was a noise that I couldn't figure out what it was. Man, what an experience. Now to try and find out where the epicentre was situated. Cheers Ray

If you have a look at the main page, you'll see Google signed in as a member, and I've seen Facebook listed there as well. What does that mean? Here is a summary of another example of how the climate saviours keep tripping over themselves: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100161868/official-the-more-scientifically-illiterate-you-are-the-more-you-believe-in-climate-change/ The harder they try, the harder they keep falling. http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/06/this-eco-friendly-new-zealand-home-is-powered-entirely-by-the-sun/ First question: What is sustainably-sourced timber? Is this different from timber grown in plantations etc? Second question: Why do environmentally conscious people need to run nine laptops at the same time? Why does anyone need nine laptops in the first place? Third question: What are the two 45kg gas bottles in the background for? Fourth question: I can understand a fireplace for the mood, but why so big in an ecologically sound house? Is the timber that's burned sustainably-sourced? Fifth question: Where the hell do they sleep? Sixth question: Is this …

Judging by what it's going being reported about Windows 8, I think I'll be holding on to Windows 7 for quite some time: http://www.gizmodo.c...s-a-start-date/ Windows 8 looks like a mobile phone interface (which it is, as Microsoft is trying to unify the OS) and I simply don't like it, and I'm pretty sure that many others won't either, especially in the corporate sector. I tried the preview version and didn't like the experience. Yes, you could get the traditional desktop view, but you couldn't escape the Metro interface entirely, there were things that required you to go back to the Metro interface (can't remember what they were). It may be fine in an environm…

In an effort to stop the destruction, joyriders testing their 4WD skill in state forests when its wet, are now liable to penalties of up to $2200. This seems to be happening more and more. Locally, a concrete crossing was closed recently. Seems the grime from cars was, possibly, going to contaminate the water supply SPLASH

With the weather we had the other day, and if we get more of the same again this winter, I reckon it'll have a major effect on High Country access come summer. Our area alone, which didn't get the briunt of the rain and winds, had trees falling down all over the place and huge amounts of water flowing in the valleys, which will ultimately cause more erosion and landslips that haven't been repaired from the storms we had last September. The DSE is not going to go into the High Country to clear any tracks until summer and I wouldn't be surprised if they closed tracks early and once again keep them closed past the normal opening dates. Judging by what's reported here, things…

Topher has made some outstanding videos on a number of subjects over the years. He has a style that is very engaging and with an ability to present things in a very easy to understand way. He's now made a video about free speech media regulation, which is a subject under parliamentary review at the moment: http://theforbiddenhistory.com/ Take the time to watch The Forbidden History of Unpopular People at the link. This might not appear to be an important or relevant topic to many people, but it is, it really is. And then you might watch other videos that he's made. Cheers Ray

I've had this wooden box for at least 20 years, with the intention of doing something interesting with it, but have never found the right inspiration: I can't even remember where I got it from, but I do remember that it was an instrument box that housed a high voltage rheostat. The large hole in the front housed the dial and the two smaller holes either side housed the positive and negative terminals. I can't remember what the holes on the side or top were for. It didn't look the polished and aged Cherry Wood (that I think it is), as it was pretty shabby and cleaning things up was my first priority. But after that, it's just travelled along with our moves and not p…

I noticed in the other forum that people are getting excited about the fact that there will soon be a new privately owned 4x4 location to drive in Queensland. I find that kind of sad, considering that in a state the size of Queensland, compared to Victoria, that 4WDriving is increasingly restricted to fewer and fewer public sites and more to private sites. I believe that NSW is not greatly different. For years Victoria has been threatened with track closures, and closures have happened, but we still enjoy the freedom of 4WDriving in many locations. It's no wonder that places in Victoria close to the NSW border, and even further in, are swamped with yellow plated 4WDs i…
