I remembered this photo I took last Saturday. After 3x9L buckets of water, and an ice chipping, this was my windscreen 15mins into my treck to work... (also the bonnet was still iced over after 30 mins of driving...) Let's see how cold it really is...

Firstly the government wants to limit what you can see on the Internet. Secondly, the government wants to control news media and what is reported, including blogs etc. Now the government wants to monitor and record everything that you do on the internet, mobile phone etc: http://www.news.com.au/technology/govt-defends-need-to-keep-internet-data/story-e6frfro0-1226424390925 They say that there will be community consultation to build trust and confidence. The community rejected the Internet censorship proposals, but they are still on the agenda. The community rejects media censorship, but that is still rolling ahead. The carbon tax was rejected by the community and it…

RIP paper shredder. I've had the shredder for nearly three years now and I think I paid about $29 for it. It's shredded heaps of paper and even a few CDs, and as far as shredders goes, it beats all but the most expensive other brands, where you have to pay $$$ to get one that does cross shredding. The Aldi shredder virtually pulps the paper. Anyway, today it had a major gastric malfunction and looked like it was about to give birth. An autopsy revealed that a set of plastic blade cleaners that sit each side of the blades had broken and there was no recovery, so into the big recycle bin it went. I think part of the problem was that I'd been very remiss in oiling the blades…

Much as I like forums and have learned so much from them, they often Chit me to tears. And before I say anything else, none of the following comments apply to THIS forum as so far thank god, It is a refreshing exception to what I normally see. On every forum I have been on ( bar this one) of wide and varying subject matter, a mentality of certain things develops which seems to fly in the face of reality, practicality, real world experience and evidence. People develop a pattern of thought and parrot advise which is completely ignorant and usually in no way reflects the happenings of the real world. Mentalities develop and are then considered fact when in many case…

There have been any number of studies about dogs and their relationship with humans, and some say that dogs aren't really all that smart and that we anthropomorphise and simply project on to them what we wish to see. Other studies suggest that dogs change our own behaviour towards them, to the dogs benefit (which I can somewhat believe) but, that said, I think there's a lot more between the ears of a dog than the wish to work out how to get more food in their belly. In our previous house, we had a kitchen that was about three time the size of the one in our new place and we'd established a line in the tiles which was 'in the kitchen and out of the kitchen' for our dog…

I Hate: PayPal Auctions you watch for a week that suddenly end and the seller puts some crap like " item no longer available" Idiots that when you win an auction are on your case inside of 24 hours saying you havent paid for it yet, when you going to pay, if you don't pay.... Yeah right. get a life. It's a $10 item and i bought it yesterday. How ebay craps on that things buyers do like non paying bidders are criminals but when sellers muck buyers around or rip them off, the story is there is nothing they can do, leave neg feedback after carefully considering it. Pi$$es me off how you can't permanently have the " Australia Only" filter on and have to click…

Just got word my Uncle Died in his sleep so I'll he heading to Funeral No. 3 for the year/ 6 months this week. A close mates mother wasn't expected to survive last weekend due to cancer so Number 4 is a matter of when not if. I have been to a LOT of funerals before but this year seems to be setting some sort of new record. Maybe it's Karma for me being so damn happy at the first one I had to knock back whooping for joy. That was a one off and wont ever happen again.

I've never had pork belly in my life, but today when we went shopping there was pork belly on special at about $8, so I bought a packet expecting to get some cracking and not much more. Boy, was I surprised. I made a spicy rub for the underside of the pork belly using garlic, chilli, ginger, black pepper, salt and agave syrup; and oil and obscene quantities of sea salt for the rind side and then baked the lot in our turbo cooker. OMG! I don't think I can ever buy a pork roast again, as I have never had a pork roast that comes even close to this. Cheers Ray

I'm really dissapointed and frustrated. I seem to have a lot of trouble connecting with my 17 yo son. He doesn't seem to be interested in anything bar computer games, facewaste and his sport. He's supposed to be getting his P plates in a few weeks and he has to be one of the most mechanically inept kids I have met and i have to say that causes me great sadness. He had a Victa engine he used to pull apart and re assemble when he was 5 and could name every component in it. Was all he could do to fit the barrel to the crankcase but he used to insist on doing it unaided. Now he couldn't tell you WTF was what on the thing. I try to teach him things but after you drag …

Here's an interesting article for certain Linksys-brand router owners, or potential owners: http://www.extremetech.com/computing/132142-ciscos-cloud-vision-mandatory-monetized-and-killed-at-their-discretion/1. It really makes one wonder about the mentality of some companies. Cheers Ray

Even if you never get the chance to go to a spot like this, please read the attached letter (petition) and make up your own mind. If you agree please send it on to Tony Burke through the link, myself, many others and people in the future will thank you. I have been lucky enough to visit the outer reefs on a couple of occasions and loved every minute of it I've walked on and popper fished on coral keys 200k offshore. Green Groups have been trying for years to lock up this area. Many of the greens groups would not have a bloody clue what it actually looked like. I wrote to the Government in 2009 about this when rumours were first surfacing of an impending close, I still …

...or lack of. As most of you know, I love cooking, so buying ingredients is a big part of my life, especially Asian ingredients, which leads me to the topic at hand. For years I've noticed how Asian packaged products imported into Australia display not only intelligence in design, but also far greater emphasis on safety and health than do Australian products. Some of it is just so simple that It makes you wonder why aren't these ideas implemented in every product. Let's run through three of the most common food packaging options, to see what I mean: Canned Products - Asian sourced canned products, by design, have a slightly smaller base than top, so that the cans will…
