Fifth generation globally, launched in Australia in 1988 as the GQ Patrol. A significant upgrade with coil-spring suspension options (on some models) and a boxier, modern design. Engine options included the 3.0L inline-six petrol (RB30S), 4.2L petrol (TB42), and 4.2L diesel (TD42). Variants like the ST and Ti added luxury features over time.

  2. Well I've bitten the bullet and ordered a pair of fixed rear windows for the old girl. Auto moulds and rubbers do a complete kit to change out the dreaded sliding ones, and you have to choice of fixed or sliding. I opted for the fixed as I'll be shelving the rear out for camping so it's less options for grubby fingers to get into the car.. So yea, $350 delivered ain't bad IMO and there on there way.. More details here. (it's the only detailed thread I can find) http://www.nissanpat...-rubber-new-lwb Install thread to follow.

I've got a tb42 5 speed gearbox bolted into a dellows bellhousing then to a ford 5lt. I've got a spare patrol wich has the 3lt fuel injected rb30 engine in it bolted to an automatic transmission. My question is will the auto bolt in and replace the manual one?

Lately my car has been very hard to get into any of the gears and most of the time I can never get it into reverse without it just grinding. What could this be? And also On my way to work today I stopped at a set if traffic lights and left it in 1st gear with the clutch in and it kept wanting to go forward until it stalled. I then started it when the light went green with the clutch in and in 1st gear and it was like there my clutch wasn't even in. What could it be?

I just bought another Gq oiler that comes complete with a snail. It's not inter cooled and I was wondering if this makes any difference to the output you can wring out of them or has any other benefits besides the obvious. I'm not sure about fitting an IC but I will be fitting Water injection which probably has a better cooling effect on the intake charge. Being a turbo I can easily rig the WI to a pressure switch and trigger it that way. I'll also be looking for a possible location for a substantial water tank. If I do go the IC route, does anyone know what the best size is and what sort of thickness or specification is needed? I'm thinking and IC, air con co…

Hi guys, I'm thinking of turbocharging my TD42. My engine has only done 178,000 km so it should be in good order. I don't know which kit to go for. I know there are a few but I was leaning towards the safari turbo system. However the quotes that I have received for the kit are very pricey. One of my GQ's already has a safari turbo kit with front mount intercooler, it was already on the vehicle when I purchased it. It looks like a factory turbo. The DTS kits look ok, but I'm having trouble coming to terms with bolting anything that is made by Mitsubishi to my Nissan. Any way some help or personal experiences with either of these kits would be appreci…

Hi Guys, You are my last hope after hours searching on the web... I am after the pin-outs of the MAF sensor on a TB42E patrol. Part number is AFH70-05. It is a 4 pin MAF, Labled A, B, C and D. Pin slot A is empty. I need to know what each wire is for B, C and D. Even the wire colours for each pin would be enough to get me going as I have the ECU schematic. Or if someone owns one of these even a PIC will suffice. Attached is a pic of the MAF, it is Genuine Nissan Maf for TB42E 4.2 petrol.

I'm currently looking at purchasing a 3" lift kit this week but there are so many brands out there. Just wondering what brands are the better ones to look into. I've been looking at raw 4x4, ironman, dobinson, and a weird unheard brand called anarchy offroad. Tough dog is just a little out of my price range. Any opinions would be great.

Just got back from a trip up to Qld for work and used a lot more fuel than I thought. Seems I averaged just under 16L/ 100. I had a little weight in the thing, probably no more than if I had a couple of passengers and I was running veg which should make consumption about 10% higher than Dino. The other NA truck used about 120L to Brisvegas, this one sucked about 150-160L. It sure goes up hills and over takes in another dimension to the other one. Just wondering what other people are getting with their GQ 4.2 Turblows?

My gq tb42 motor is over revving. What happened is I just started my car up in the cold and drove it easy up the road then I put the accelerator further down and it started coughing and splattering obviously cause the automatic choke was still on. Strait after that it just revved out and I've checked the throttle which doesn't seem to be stuck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Okay.. So my Maverick is developing an issue.. Grinding noise / rattle in the front left wheel.. Appears after 40kph.. Disappears under 40kph. Wheel bearings are in good shape.. Had a wheel wobble recently but replacement draglink fixed that.. Just had the brakes done.. It does it if you roll downhill with engine off.. Both hubs heat up evenly... I'm a bit stumped. It's a significant grinding noise.. But only sometimes... Where do I start?!

I have been looking for a sub tank for the GQ but they seem to be far and few between and over priced when they do come up. I was wondering if anyone has been able to fit a tank from another vehicle or use something like a 60L drum or have something made up? Will the GU sub tank fit in the GQ? It looks like some different Jap ute tanks might fit but not really sure. Anyone found a Viable alternative?

Bought a new beast on the weekend that is smoking quite a bit under almost any load. At Idle it's clear as but once you start to feed in some power it's very black. The previous (one) owner said it needed The injectors doing and when questioned said they were last done 3 and a half years ago. That seems a short life to me and I don't think the thing has been driven a million miles in that time. He said he hadn't touched the fuel or the turbo as he was a non mechanical person but I'm wondering if the injectors are the likely cause of the plentiful smoke or maybe it's just a fuelling issue? The thing starts at the first look of the key even without the GP's when…

Despite all the parroted fear and wornings I get about running veg fuel I haven't had a problem.... Till now. Last week the mrs went out and running low on fuel, did the rare thing of stopping at a servo and putting in some..... DIESEL! ( Insert shock horror, devil icon here!) The thing went about 2 km up the road and stopped. My son was luckily with her, diagnosed a blocked fuel filter, changed it and home they came. The thing was going through a filter every day for a week after that till I got the Irrits and put a 25L drum of gods fuel in the back and hooked up the fuel lines through the tank inspection plate. No more problems. Obviously the tank is now full of…

From what I understand, It's a bad thing to put my GQ in 4WD ( at least low range if not both) when on a concrete/ tar surface and turn the steering wheels. From what I have read, this loads up the diff and is likley to cause breakage. Please correct me if I am wrong on this. Assuming this is the case, what about if I want more traction on a hard surface and only engage one hub? Will this overcome the problem of loading the diff and risking breakage by having one wheel unlocked allowing the required play in the axle? I need to move something heavy where the truck will be sitting on concrete and I think having a 3rd wheel pulling may be the difference between having…
