I cut a bit of rubber, put two holes in it and cable tied it to the +ve cable so it covers all the positive bits.
    Works a treat

Everything is now together and I decided to make the mount a permanent fixture on the support, and just use zip ties on the vent when I need to use the unit. This is what it now looks like when set up on the dash:

The white bits you see on the bottom of the tablet are just two bits of foam to stop the tablet rubbing on the console. I'm going to see if I can find something that will sit inside the pen holder and lift the mount bracket up a tad, so that I don't need to use the foam, which I can guarantee will collect dust on a trip and rub the console. My Nokia Bluetooth GPS unit sits perfectly at the back of the support and is held in place by the zip ties used to provide additional support for the mount.

A small update. I didn't like the zip ties on the forward part of the mount (they just looked ugly), so took I them off, and the suction cup seems to be holding on like grim death; so I'll see how things go. I also have a very strong velco strap holding the mount to the support near the tablet end, so there's still a backup in case the suction cup lets go. I also added my Nokia Bluetooth GPS to the front of the mount (held on by double sided tape) which I'll most likely use as the GPS for navigation, until I work out why I'm having trouble with my Garmin GPS. While the Nokia works off battery power, which should last up to eight hours of use, I'll be powering it off one of the USB ports on the tablet, so it won't run out of power (I'll just have to remember to turn it off at night). This is what the mount looks like after the latest modifications (I sorted out the Garmin issue and have replaced the Nokia Bluetooth GPS with the Garmin USB GPS):

Nah at this stage I am still waiting for the insurance company to release the donor vehicle. I am going this route as I will also get recaro seats, long range tanks, diff armour, chromoly cvs plus a range of other goodies. If they decide to no write it off it's just a matter of ordering everything, 3-5 day wait for delivery and then it's on. I wouldn't have pulled my motor out yet except I sold it to a bloke who had his zd30 grenade on him.

The pics are coming I promise

That's probably why Linux has lagged so badly in the desktop environment; to be a serious alternative, it needs full time support and funding. Surprisingly, some of the Linux derivatives are indeed funded by coorporations and they derive benefit from doing so. No one should fear end user license agreements, few in fact even read them to be honest and even Linux has them.

Actually, Linux is considered to be the real mess because it's so fragmented and in many respects disorganised, that's why organisations like Canonical have been developing Ubuntu, so that it can become a coherent system. Also, your choice and freedom is only as good as that provided by those Linux developers, unless you're a software engineer yourself and can work around the code. And the applications that run on Linux are purely under the control of the developers, whether they come free or paid for.

So at the end of the day, most of us are a slave to one OS or another. It just depends on what your needs and prejudices.

As I still haven't found an answer to the problem I was having with Ubuntu 12.04 and getting two screens to work properly ie extended rather than mirrored, I've been searching for posssible solutions on various Linux forums. It appears that I'm not the only one with this problem and it seems that the Ubuntu developers have actually ignored this feature, to a large extent, in the belief that people for some reason don't need this feature. The same applies to the new Unity interface (a change like Metro in Windows 8), which appears to be universally loathed. Some interesting comment on both issues on this Linux thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1940304&highlight=ubuntu+12.04+dual+monitor+support.

Well I had a good score on ebay today.
A circulation pump I bought for the veg oil heater I built for the house arrived.

The listing pic was crap, the description sparse and I saw it with just a few minutes to go. I put $5 on it and won it only bid for .99 cents.
Postage was $13 but only cost the guy $8.76. Good luck to him.

It lobbed up this morning, brand spanking new and with a heap of brass fittings and connectors and even flow meter/regulator. That won't be any good for the heater but perfect for controlling the fuel supply on the veg burner I have built for heating the pool. Lowest setting is exactly where I want it at 500Ml min. I haven't looked it up but I'm betting that's worth a hundred or more on it's own.

From the crappy pic I didn't see any of the fittings nor were they mentioned and the listing says the pump it's used. Everything is obviously brand new. Also said the brand was unknown so it took it to be a cheap chinese one when it fact it is a well known top of the line unit.

I really got lucky with this one and it certainly made my day.

Unrelated but to make things even better, I went to see my computer bloke about a couple of laptops, monitors and another server.
He gave me a couple of really nice Dell 19" Monitors that I want for doing onsite jobs! The screens go up and down on the stand and rotate portrait to landscape, have a built in USB ports, speakers and are sharp as a tack.

Said he'll have the other stuff ready for me in a couple of weeks and then asked If could help him out with a favour and shoot some new promo material for him in a couple of months.

I really don't see a problem with that!!

Facebook, Macs, eBay, email, forums, credit/debit cards, getting your name in the local rag, going to the shops, sending a text message, overseas holidays, etc are all things I have done for quite a while now and like millions of other people in the world and am yet to have my personal and home security breached or receive some sort of reporcuation due to the usage of such things, just like MILLIONS of others.

A few slip ups (relative to the total number) in a world where the media and social networks cover anything and everything from someones fart to someone pimples, to a teen sending nudie shots to a 'friend', is not something to be concerned about. There are always going to be targets, so sacrifice the stupid.

I think I may cry myself to sleep in the corner of the room, protecting my genitals from the fucking mental Japanese. WTF!
