Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)
Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

Being someone who has never subscribed to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" way of thinking, I am constantly looking for little ways to improve things (actually that is my job only I do it with Filling and Packaging machinery). You will often hear people come back to a poster saying check your gauges they must be out and in the case of clutch and brake, what vacuum do you have? Well I have a simple temporary solution which doesn't require drilling holes in a perfectly good vehicle and / or permanently adding more gauges on or around the dash. I installed a small 1/8th BSP stainless steel 3 way ball valve under the bonnet to which Vacuum and Boost are connected. W…

Ok lets see who picks it. The vehicle: 1998 Nissan Patrol 2.8 ST Turbo Diesel. Recent engine and clutch replacement. Recent injectors service done (injectors replaced) The Issue: Every day when i go to start it, it wont start.. kicks over for about 2 minutes off and on with me on the key, lots of white smoke (like batman hit the smoke screen button on the batmobile) then bang she kicks. Then for the rest of the day the truck is perfectly normal. No white smoke and restarts everytime like a breeze. ECU Talk shows no errors. Truck is going in on monday arvo.. should know issue by Tuesday or Wednesday. Pick that fault!

Over the summer, i noticed how hot my fridge was sat on top of the drawers on the drop slide. I remembered that I had a part roll of that silver bubble roof insulation left over from insulating the jayco underbeds (when we had it), so off i went....

I have just been on the Donaldson site looking for a new bowl for my pre cleaner. https://dynamic.dona...104&item=140565. According to the site, my pre cleaner is good for 170 cfm. Can anyone tell me if this is big enough for a zd30 or am I restricting the engine. The reason I ask is that it seems far louder on this patrol than it was on the old (worn out.....no compression) TB42. It there a formula to work this out with a turbo?

My 2010 CRD TI came with a factory alloy bullbar. When I was fitting driving lights I noticed that there are holes along the lower edge. Should there be a plate of some sort that covers under the bullbar? I've seen it under winches but can't find a photo of a factory bar from underneath. I guess the radiator etc could be vulnerable to a stick springing back up after being pushed over by the bar, or is this a very low risk? I do want to replace the plastic one "protecting" the steering dampner with (probably) a Bushskinz version. I had a full set of Bushskinz plates on my Pajero and the front one certainly saved the intercooler (stupid design - the IC is the lowest…

Fitting the Cross Country IC should be done with due consideration, follow the Cross Country instructions carefully with regard to what parts need to be taken off and not replaced, this is where most later problems lie. It is a large well made unit that only just fits, so double check everything to be sure. When removing the old IC check how clean the internals are, this will give an idea of how well your Catch Can is working. This was after 60,000k, when it was last cleaned, pretty good I thought The CCIC is a big unit, it only just fits. Area under the IC, ensure all bolts etc mentioned in the CC instructions as obstructions are removed With my unit I …

OK, just in case, I would like to get my EGT survey thread up and running here as I think there was a lot of good quality info in the other one for new and old members alike. I looked at bringing the info across but I only own my info so it may not be legal and there would be a hell of a lot of sorting to get it right. If you are interested in keeping this going please use the structure below in a cut and paste form and add your info over mine. There always seems to be a question of where and what EGT temps are acceptable with the GU ZD30 motor and with EGT being so critcal to the longevity of the motor you can never have too much information. The position of the E…

Just in case we do lose the other forum, I will try to move some of my tech info across, can't hurt will be a WIP for a while. This will be my first go here so bare with me......... Won't be quite as much written detail but I can put up most of the pics and captions I saved on my laptop. NOTE: No original fuel parts/lines were cut or modified in this exercise, this can all be undone and put back to standard with ease (well disconnecting the original fuel line after 12 years was not exactly easy, a few scratches on the hands were involved. Rocket industries supplied the pump, Good price actually, all fittings were from either Pirtek or Air and Lift Gear This is…

The standard nav/av system fitted to TI models since the GU7 is the Eclipse AVN726EA. Generally quite a good unit, particularly after the firmware and map updates. One frustration though is that there are no steering wheel controls. As the buttons are very small, and all look the same, quick changes to volume are hit-and-miss. A solution that's worked quite well is to get hold of the Eclipse remote ($15-20), buy a programable steering wheel mounted IR remote off ebay ($11) and make a tiny reflector to reliably direct the IR beam onto the sensor. Pics below. Overall arrangement Steering wheel remote - held on by a rubber strap which makes at surprisingly s…

Going past Nissan dealer and spotted this new leaf ute. It has a chassis extension and extra mount compared to my 07 coil ute. Is this a update to the chassis or has the leaf ute always had this.
