Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)
Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

I need a Patrol guru... Ok firstly hello to all, some probably know me from the other forums. Ok a fast recap of my machine and then to get to my problem.I drive a DI 2004 Patrol it has never missed a beat. Yes the mileage is high now @ 280000miles (450000k's) all that was ever done was the clutch and solid flywheel conversion.So recently i came home from work and i had no engine lights, nothing wrong, pulling a good load of timber behind.Great power... well maintained Patrol. Never misses a beat and so i came home and switched it off,went in and had some lunch (probably one hour gone) and returned to go back to work and a NO START....cranking over but nothing... STRANGE…

Hi All So my patrol ZD30 is having problems at the moment it will start and run fine on a cold start though as soon as the temp gauge goes up to about 1/4 the car will stall and wont start again.... I have tried the spare key still no go and i have checked all the fuses Any Ideas ??? Hopefully its not the injector pump

So this one has me beat. 3.0 zd30 patrol, will not start off key. Fuel pressure all good battery volts good. Car will bump start first time every time and run fine. Ignition on starter solenoid bridged to rule out key switch still no start. Thought maybe lazy so replaced.. turns over a lot quicker but refuses to start off key .. Thoughts ?

newby, got a Patrol 2004 zd30di. I'm wanting to know what is the best way to tune my car and get the best performance. Can the ECU be flashed or do I need to get a Unichip I've fitted a 3" exhaust, guages, Dawes and needle Valve, next looking at a high flow filter box and pipework, and increase the intercooler and pipe sizes. Any suggestions

Hi all, Just joined so keen to get amongst it. I have a gu3 manual and the issue is when it is in gear(any gear), clutch in and engine warm the engine hunts between 500rpm to normail idle speed. I have checked the shift switch and its good. This has only come on in the last few months. When rpm is over 1000 it not an issue. I know it tells the ecu its in gear when driving and has something to do with fuel when coasting TPS at zero but not sure about idle. Any help would be good as I am smoking out the shoppers when reversing out of a car park!! Sorry, 2001 zd30

can anyone one give me an idea of how to bypass rear brake sensor, which pipes do i rejoin also which one to blank off, this vehicle also has abs fitted so i am hoping i can do away with the rear sensor any advice would be realy helpful or maybe someone has a video tutorial on this.

Hi, I have a patrol station wagon Y61 3l diesel, manufactured 2005, 45,000km. The oil pressure warning light has started ti behave erratically. I start the engine, sometimes it goes off, sometimes it stays on. I stop and start again, and it might go off or not, and so on. The mechanic checked the oil pressure, was Ok, and replaced the pressure switch (on the RH side). The fault remained, but I could drive with some confidence. Then I discovered that there are 2 oil pressure switches (the mechanic apparently did not know that). He ordered the other switch and will replace it when it arrives. I have read that the MAF sensor should be changed periodically... How often? How can you tell if its ready to change? I clean mine probably every 5 - 10,000ks, or more if I have done a long dusty trip.. Ie: Say Cape York. But have never changed it. And I cant remember the mechanic ever specifically mentioning it when I get it serviced.

Hi Guys and Girls. Thanks for all the input this forum has. I have been able to follow everything and do all the mods on my 2003 patrol gu 3.0L I purchased a needle and dawes valve and have followed instructions from this forum on how to fit it. My needle valve works as I have played with the spool up rate. I have wound the dawes out to bring boost down and it does not appear to be doing that. I have boost going to 20psi at 3000rpm. No matter what I do this does not change. I have replaced the hoses, pulled the dawes apart to check that nothing had fallen into it but it does not matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi every one been having problem with my ZD30 2001 patrol. engine light coming on other time nothing . but also having power loss. it did stall and when i restarted it it ran like shit shut it down straight away let it sit. restarted and seamed fine but notice the engine like coming on every now and then when i start the car. other time nothing. then it has been coming on after driving for a while at a lose can =any one help thanks for your time all the best

Does any no the were i can get a cabin filter for a gu 2015 patrol, i no it didnt come out with one but you can cut the section out of the air box to make one fit. Just need to no which one it would be. cheers paul

Hello every one, I have a 1997 2.8TD gu patrol, and I need help. the problems that she has are that she uses coolant and I cannot fined where the leek is. my local mechanic says that he doesn't think its the head gasket and I don't have wet carpets so I don't think its the heater. she has a water cooled turbo, could it be this ? the other issue is that when I start her she will pump out a big white/blue cloud and she will do this when she is hot or cold. Evening all i just wanted to find out if someone has the knowledge on weather or not a bull bar off a 2010 gu patrol ute would bit on a 2006 series 4 wagon, they seem to have exactly the same front end with same flares and grill ect? company i work for has around 15 utes sitting in the yard collecting dust and being robbed of parts and was looking at swaping my alloy bar for a steel one cheers Beau

I am not the most mechanically minded man on the planet so forgive my ignorance. I have taken my GU to the (respected) dealers who sold it me second hand in Brisbane and asked for airbag replacement as required by recall note, but haven't got any way of telling if it was changed. A verbal saying it was done, but no paperwork, no sticker, no information if it was a like for like or an upgrade. Is this typical? How can I check this? Thanks in advance, all genuine suggestions appreciated, critical comments are expected, humour to be hoped for.

hi all, i was told i needed a catch can to stop engine oil being drawn through breather system into turbo system. i needed to get other things fixed (warped manifold) but they were too expensive. The new mob fixing it told me his customers usually bring the cans in themselves. can anyone advice me where i can purchase this and if at all is it necessary?. cheers Todd
