Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)
Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

I have a 2000 GU series 2 which was originally a 3Ltr but the previous owner converted it to a 4.2Ltr being a 4.2 silvertop, the problem I have is when I glow the plugs, the light stays on for about 3 seconds, if the motor is already warm the light will only stay on for a second, where and how to I make adjustments to make the plugs glow longer? Also when I start the motor regardless if the motor is hot or cold, the is a cloud of blackish/greyish smoke, I really notice at night if I put my foot down going up a hill and there is a car behind me, it looks like I have flicked a switch to turn on smoke screen mode!!!! during the day if I put the foot down sometimes I can se…

My 2000 GU had a heart transplant done by the previous owners from a 3Ltr which they blew up to a TD42 from a 1990 silvertop, Am trying to figure out how to remove the intercooler to get to the tappet cover to remove it so I can adjust the tappet clearances as they are getting a bit noisy.. if any one has tips on making the job easier please let me know, like do i loosen off the injectors or the glow plugs to make it easier to turn the motor by hand etc. but my primary challenge is getting to the tappet cover first...

I tried adjusting the drum shoes on the back of my transmission, I rotated the cog sever times until it was tight, but I cant seem to turn it in the opposite direction to loosen it off, feel like there is a spring or something stopping it rotating in the opposite direction, as I put the screw driver on it, move it about half a centimeter and when I let go it kicks the screw drive up to where I started, I couldn't reverse out of my driveway today, Ended up putting it in low range, reversing out into street and taking it for a long drive, how can I loosen the adjuster, any help would be appreciated Cheers in advance

I have just purchased and installed a Spartan Auto Lockers into the front of my Nissan GU Patrol. Everything seemed to go together as it should. The thrust washers were not installed as per instructions. The problem I am having is that it does not seem to be unlocking properly. When I am driving with the hubs locked in and NOT in 4WD everything seems ok in a straight line but when I turn it is like the locker is working as it is fighting the steering and then there is a very loud bang which shakes the front wheels. It is like the locker is engaged and the axles are winding up until something finally gives with a very loud bang which I assume is the locker giving and relea…

I was replacing a switch on the dash of my GU as no mater what position it was in my spotties where on when high beam was selected, there was another switch next to it which looked like it had something to do with lighting as iut had a picture of a head lamp on it, looking at the plugs that were plugged into it, was a very average job done be previous owners. My problem now is low beam works, if I switch to high beam only the left hand head light lights up, but if I very slowly pull the lever towards the flash head lights position, both the hed lights hig beam work and my spotties work, I've tested all the relays and fuses that are obvious but for the life of me cant fi…

My daughter bough me a set of After market gauges being boost, pyro, water temp and oil pressure for Christmas, the are Autotecnia brand all are electric anolog in nature, the water temp one and the oil pressure ones in particular when the ignition is turned on and they do their initial calibration do not return to zero mark, the sit around the second black mark on the dial, is this normal and to be expected for gauges that only cost about 60 or so each? I would expect if I had paid big dollars for top of the line gauges I'd expect them to work perfectly and accurately, the reading when running are with in spec, apart from the boost gauge, which if I floor it reaches 8PSI…

Urgent help needed with indicators problem, this morning when I hoped in my 2000 GU to head off to a job an hour and a half drive away, I noticed that my right hand indicator wasn't working, I didn't think much of it and thought I'd fix the problem this evening, but about 10K down the road the left hand side indicator stopped working also, "no indicators, and no blinking lights on the dash", so I thought it must be a fuse or something, when I got on site I noticed that when I armed my alarm, ALL indicators flashed. We had about 30 minutes before workers arrived, I hoped i my car with a few minutes to kill and discovered my left hand indicators were working again, and so…

Re the Water in fuel detector.I have a 2000 GU which was originally a zd30 but had a TD42 transplant. Although there are wires attached to the fuel filter at the bottom, I've yet to see the water in fuel light appear on the dash which the owners manual says should briefly light up, Is there a way I can test to see if it is actually working, if so how?

Just had it 1000km inspection all good, next ones at 10,000km which I thought was abit long between servicing. You guys bag the ZD30 engine abit witch I don't under stand as all the forums I read out side of this forum, say it was up to 2003 models had problems and current patrols are fine with minor problems. I get the factory warranty then another 10yrs warranty after that, witch we payed for so the car runs out of warranty in 2025.. it will probably be sold before this. Yes I looked a extended warranty witch covers all major parts but not normal wear and tear so I got it. If I got a bought hand grenade as you so call it , then I can only hope it does not blow up a…

I purchase a 2000 GU ST yesterday and didnt get around to testing every light etc until today, when I engage either hi4 or low4 the light on the dash doesnt come on, I have asked the people I bought it from if they knew if it was working or not. They said last time they went off road about 5 months ago it was, but when they did a heart transplant about 2 years ago they experienced what I am now. He said they took it to their mechanic and he really didnt touch anything and it started working, the mechanic said it must have been a loose connection or something, as they and their mechanic are a 5 hour drive from where I live I'm hoping some people on here amy be able to shed…

Can you recommend any proven types that you guys are using. Ive had a dual battery set up in GQ patrol that was just a solenoid witch ran the batterys in parrell this worked fine for yrs but iam not sure about doing this with the newer patrols. Ill be running 75ltr Engel fridge,x2 12volt outlets. Found a good battery tray with a heat shield to help keep battery temp down from turbo heat from Off Road Down under Dual Battery Trays, as I have cooked a battery in my old GQ patrol once from the Engine/turbo heat, fixed this buy in…

Can some one instruct me on how to install the Wheel arch and door flares. I bought this 2000 GU about 3 weeks ago and last week end a mate of mine who lacks any sence noticed the door arch flare on the drivers side had a slight gap between it and the door, so he gave it a tug and snapped 2 of the mounts off, I removed the screw from inside upper in door and have glud the mounts back on, but can seem to figure out how they go back on as the slot on the two middle mounts face each other. I will eventually buy a replacement but in the mean time would like to get this flare back on, any tips would be appriecated as I cant find anything in my Haynes repair manual.. Thanks in …
