Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)

Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

  1. I tyring to find a source where I can get 1. Riser for the Back Spare Tyre - my bother in law got his Mitsubishi Back Tyre Riser form ARB , not sure if ARB has one for GU Y61 2012/13? Where I buy them ? Rough idea of the cost ? 2. To fit a Diesel Fuel Water Filter unit - for further long trip to rural northern regions where there are no guarantee that they filter their diesel fuel a the Service stations? Model for the European continent, 1999 After a long trip to Swedish Lappland and medical troubles the Patrol was not in use for many months. So, I installed a new battery and tried to start up. Didn't take a second and the Patrol was alive. So, I thought : I'll let it run for 15' or so... When I came outside the engine had stopped. No way to start it up again...   3. Hi Guys, I am new to the forum and would like to ask a question regarding the following. On my 91 GQ 3 ltr Patrol which has died and have acquired a 98 TB45E-Y61 motor as a replacement. This is firstly to give me extra power under the hood as the 3 ltr just don't cut it for the work I do. I am wondering if anyone out there knows how to connect the ECU module to the GQ system??

    Early yesterday morning I tried starting my 4.2 and there was no cranking, no clicking no nothing, as I was taking my wife to the hospital I managed to clutch start it, after driving for about 30-40 mins I parked it on a slope and tried to start with the key and it started fine. The battery was fully charged as headlights and all other electrics worked fine. I've ordered a cheap one on eBay to install until I get the original one sorted, any suggestions etc. appreciated Thanks in advance

    Hi all, new to the forum and new to owning a Patrol (05 GU). Patrol has Kings drawers and before I pull apart the 12v setup in my Hilux to move into the Patrol, I'm curious as to where everyone is mounting their batteries in the rear? Battery is a DCS 200ah slimline lithium but they're still a decent size. Photos would be very handy. Cheers.

    I know this is an old post sorry, I have read many places about "the tiny thimble size filter" Just replaced my filter and added a water separator type one with a glass bowl as a pre filter to the standard one, I have been experiencing when I really give it berries up a hill from around the 2K-3K rev mark it hesitates as though it is starving of fuel, But if I rev it when I'm parked, it revs out well up to the 4K mark with no hesitation. I followed the instructions here today to try and get the "the tiny thimble size filter" out but it appears there isn't one in there as I can poke a bit of wire about 2-3 inches down the hole.   7. Went 4wd low range front dif lock not a challenging hill, smoke coming from underneath, smell of clutch, just had clutch replaced 500k . No clutch slip, tried high range same issue. Drives fine in 2wd on issues

    Hi all - I'm trying to find out the expected oil pressure on a 3.0TD engine. My oil light came on the other day and since then I've replaced the oil sensor near the turbo and oil resistor in the cab. I'm waiting on the correct oil sensor near the starter to arrive. Despite changing the above and unplugging the sensor near the starter, the oil light still lights up once the engine is running. I've just put the oil pressure gauge on the top sensor unit bear the turbo and the readings I'm getting are: Idle = 85/90 PSI or 6 Bar Rev to 2,000 = 100 PSI or 7 bar Rev to 3,000 = 115PSI or almost 8 bar Are these figures ok or is it running hi…

    Hello Patrol people, After 7 yrs of trouble free use and now 380000ks the truck has decided to rest. Codes 1401 1403 which suggest NATS issue, 2001 ZD30 Di manual (2005 engine installed) I have cleaned all battery connections and battery is new, did start twice after install of battery but not since. Cranking fast. I have cracked injector pipe on #1 and fuel is present, cleaned it up and did it again, seems plenty of fuel. Pressure in filter housing seems normal and doesnt change overnight.   14. Hi all, 2001 3L DDI When driving I'm getting the "0707 Injection Pump injection timing control" code and the car loses power. If i turn the car off for a few seconds and turn it back on I then regain power and the engine light turns off. Pressing the manual prime pump, it feels soft and I can press it a few times before going hard again. My questions: 1. Would the soft prime pump indicate air in the line? 2. If so, would this mean the air is coming from before the filter/the filter itself e.g. does the pump have a diaghpram which prevents air coming back from further up the line?     Hi Guys I have a 2004 4.8L Patrol, Y61. My patrol has an AT /snow control that keeps coming on intermittently..... Only when slowing down under 10km or at a complete stop.... The car takes off in 3rd or 4th and lacks power until it comes up to match the speed of the gear it takes off in...If I turn the car off, the computer resets and the problem goes away until another unexpected time... I have had the wiring harness checked but nothing obvious was found by the auto electrician... I have changed out the AT controller relay. Diagnostics done by a transmission specialist resulted in the replacement of 2 solenoids and the auto trans oil. There were no issues…

    So I recently bought a Nissan y61 super safari, in the gulf region. After a few months of using the suv I’ve realised that it does feel abit under powered and the suspension to be on the stiff side. I’m willing to throw in some money for some suspension and performance mods. I’d like to be recommended a good suspension kit which actually improves its on road comfort. As far as the performance mods go, I want the suv to be able to make 400-500 horsepower. Of course with a turbo setup which is both reliable and reasonable. So guys please let me know the best suspensions available and what I can do to achieve the 400 hp mark thank you.

  20. Good day to everyone. My car YOM 2013 no egr by factory have an engine knock when decelarates from 2000 rpm or above. This is more noticeable after cold start. I have done diesel purge, fuel filter change, liqui moly Injector cleaning but non of them worked. This knock is coming from top of the engine. No fault codes with scanguage.     I bought my 2004 Y61 couple weeks ago and I noticed engine vibration and low rpm. I thought It can be fixed it easy. I cleaned MAF, and checked voltage according to instruction. Terminal one 1.65v, two 5.11v, three 3.5v and four 12.38. Any idea about terminal three voltage and where it might comes from? The idle speed is 400 rpm, cold and warmed.
