Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)

Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

  2. My 1998 GU 4.5 patrol indicators stopped working while driving. Checked obvious like fuse, could not find fault so drove home to better examine it. Just after arriving home indicators all working OK again. Went for drive next day and after a few kilometres indicators stopped working again. Tried hazard lights, they flashed once then stopped.     Hi all, I have a serious issue and I require some assistance. I was driving along the highway and my vehicle's "CHECK ENGINE" light came on suddenly (no signs of overheating, RPM change etc.) then the engine died on me and the ignition lights came on. The engine tumbled fine but refused to start so I had to have the vehicle towed to my house and I got an electrician to run a diagnostic scan on it and a '"DIESEL PUMP ERROR" code came up. I was afterwards told that the sensor cannot be replaced or repaired and the entire pump has to be replaced. I am located in the West Indies and my mechanic is telling me that this can cost as much as US$1800.00!! That's a ton load of mone…

    Hi guys and girls,I have a manual 2010 ZD30 CRD that has been having an ongoing issue. Initially, it was what I thought was a belt squeal, most noticeable when going uphill (under load presumably) in too high a gear. eg, in 4th going uphill when really I should be in 3rd.I had the mechanic have a look, asking him to find the belt that was causing the issue but he came back and said it was something to do with the turbo but he wasn't sure.After asking around, I was told by a few mates that they are almost certain it will be the exhaust manifold warping, so that was the next step.     Ive got a 2000 gu ZD30. Been doing NADS. Have egr block, dawes and needle valve, pyro and boost gauge. I've been playing a lot with it so I'll list the events in chronological order. Firstly the engine light kept coming on and/or going into limp mode. No NADS fitted yet. Mostly on highway. I replaced MAF sensor with a cheap ebay one. (Mistake). Seemed to fix the problem but now blowing black smoke. Sometimes going into limp mode. But much better. Next step was fitting gauges. Boost and pyro. Then fitted dawes and needle valves. Set up according to the page I found on this forum. Stopped the over boosting and limp mode. Still blowing smoke. I figured it might be the…

    Hey! Hoping someone might be able to help! I’ve changed my fuel filter tonight (2008 GU Patrol 3.0L Diesel) and now it won’t start! ive made sure all the hoses are fitted properly and tightened well. The issues seems to be that it’s not priming. I’ve tried priming whilst cranking simultaneously. My brother in law who is a diesel mechanic (4 hrs away via FaceTime) suggested removing the input hose between the primer bulb and the fuel filter and priming to see diesel coming out the hose but nothing!! I’ve tried pressurizing the tank with the air compressor. Still nothing. Despite priming the bulb about 200 times I’m not getting any fuel up the hose from the tank and into…

    After converting a 2000 wagon into a Ute cab,We have starting problems,winds over but won’t fire.I have a different steering wheel with airbag not connected at the minute.The immobiliser light only flashes once when switching back from accessories,the rear end of the harness has been removed from the drivers door light switch back.The engine was running before it was pulled apart.I have a grey four section plug under the dash on the drivers side that I can’t find a home yet( thinking back doors etc)All fuses and relays are fine.I have been told about the nats sensor wire on the pump but as the motor was running I’m thinking simple first.Any ideas or thoughts are appreciat…

    Llooking to install transmission oil gauge in my 2014 Y61 Patrol 3lt auto. I have looked at ones that attach to the top of the gearbox, ones that tap into the gearbox, ones that fit inline in the transmission cooler and scan gauges (which look far to complicated for me) Would appreciate advice on which is the the most accurate type please. Also , one auto transmission place quoted me $800 to install!! Thanks

    Hello everyone, I have a problem with gr y61 zd30 2001, the engine turns on well and regulates well and evenly, when accelerating it maintains the rpm, but when releasing the accelerator the revs drop and it turns off, the check engine turns on, and the code of fail at 0705, reboot ecu, delete it and again the same, if I slow down slowly it does not turn off or code appears .. will it be a vp44 pump problem?     My 2000 GU was originally a zd30, but previous owners converted it to a TD42 using a silver top out of a 1990 GQ, in the morning the glow plug light on the dash will light up for 5 seconds +, but after it has warmed up when I turn the ignition on the light on the dash will only stay on for a second if I'm lucky. Do not have any problems starting it, but previous owners said not to worry about the light and just leave ignition on until I get my seat belt on and it should be right to crank. can anyone give me any idea or direction in what I can do to resolve the light on the dash performing correctly..   17. So I have this issue and hope that someone can help me because it is starting to drive me crazy. I recently purchased a 2004 ZD30di GU patrol and it has been an absolute beauty. But unfortunately something has started that has been getting on my nerves. Over the past couple weeks it has developed this incessant squeaking coming from the pulleys, which is very embarrassing and not very nice to listen to. Now the seller has been very helpful, going as far as providing me a new tensioner and even fitting it on one occasion.     Hi folks. I have a 2002 GU. Last time i went to the bush for a wheel my drivers side started making a clunk clunk clunk noise. It is only when engaged in 4WD. I have swapped my hubs over and the noise stays on that side. Swivel hub has also now started leaking a little oil. Would this be a bearing issue? Or will it be the CV Axle that i need to replace. If i am going to replace axle i will also replace all seals and bearings. Any help on this would be really appreciated.

    Theres no way its actually pumping out 14psi on idle, but thru the ECU talk gauges my ecu thinks 14.4 psi is being delivered. Im assuming this is a corrupt MAP sensor??? Also the MAF voltage on idle is reading 2.5v roughly. Any guru know what the correct readings are suppose to be? I think "Chaz" had a post somewhere but i cant find it. Thanks guys.

  23. I have 2006 GU TD4.2 STL and the front doors both stopped locking and unlocking with remote. It still has the nissan NATS system. All other doors work fine. Any advice on what the problem could be will be appreciated.

  25. Hi all, everything was ok until pulled up for 1 hour, came back to car and winds over but won't start. Check all fuses and priming pump has is hard, has fuel pressure, half a tank of fuel. Got towed to Racq workshop, get off tow truck and engine started but on high rpm start running really rough, misfire, diesel knock, white smoke then shut down, next couple starts stall while idling. Mechanic suspect fuel pump issue, unable connect scanner, try to flash codes from ecm but only 55 means no faults. Unable to fix in next 24hours also towed to my place.
