Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)

Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum, my name is Dennis, and I saw an app on Facebook today it's called Fixd, it's supposed to be a little box that plugs into or underthe dash, has anyone used this device and does it work on Nissan patrol to diagnose little problems or fix engine lights and other little things

Hey everyone, would just like some general mods and parts to do to my GU patrol. Am new to the 4x4 scene. Have read that they’re grenades and to look at tracking down a 4.2 engine to put in it. If so I will try and track one down but in the meantime what can I do to get by with the ZD30?

Hi guys I done dual mass flywheel on weekend, pulled gearbox out today and thinking go solid flywheel and hevy duty clutch. One thing not sure is mounting gearbox without bell housing spacer or solid flywheel will compensate by it's thickness? Mounting gearbox without spacer will messed up with gearsticks location and drivelines lenghts? Cheers

  4. Replaced the inter cooler fan mounting kit, tightened up the hose clamps. Fixed a leaking crankcase breather to catch can pipe. Drove it for the first time all week. All ways good to take it for a drive.

Took off the inlet hose and primed with my thumb on it and fuel comes up after a while, soon as i put it back on the filter and prime more nothing, just air..Is there a trick to this?ThanksDazz

Just installed 3inch exhaust and had the ECU re mapped on my 2007 3.0L Wagon. Have been getting 12.3L per 100K on city / country driving. Will post fuel consumption figures after a couple of tanks. Torque is sooo...much better. I got the touring and towing tune. Marlon ?

I own a MY 16 Y61 2 door 4.8. I installed the Old Man EMU nitrogas charger shocks and asked for a 2 inch lift as well. They advised against the lift due to vibration issues above 80kmh, despite trying gearbox spaces, etc. is there any experience on the group to advise?

I have a 98 model nissan patrol 2.8 turbo diesel and have recently had my patrol stop. We had it hooked up to a computer and the computer told us there was 5 sensors showing up. A crankshaft sensor a camshaft sensor a mass air flow sensor a needle lift sensor and ac sensor. I'm not worried about the ac sensor and the others I have replaced all but the needle lift sensor. The car starts and revs and blows a heap of black smoke then dies down to a rough idle then cuts out. It wont idle as it cuts out after a few seconds of idling. As soon as you touch the accelerator it cuts out. I really have had a enough and dont know whats wrong with it. Please Help

Hi,My car, 2003 Nissan Patrol TB45 SWB manual with a 2006 GMC Denali 6.0 engine, is generating a lot of heat around the console/transmission area so Im thinking of getting a trans cooler. The only one I found was the Davies Craig but I dont know which size to go for and whether the transmission has the necessary plugs for a trans cooler or not. Im also considering upgrading my radiator but cant seem to find any.Which brands do you recommend? Any tips on installing? Thanks

Current problem is when I'm driving and hit the brake or use indicators my stereo dims as though I have turned on the headlights. weird thing is some ties it does it for the duration of the trip, other times it will do it for a few seconds the stereo back to normal, its causing me grief with my reversion camera, I have owned this truck for less than a month, and am finding things like this out every day, I've tried to earth the rear indicators and tail lights and brake lights with diodes which made no difference, its as though when I use the indicators etc it is finding earth though my stereo.. Haven't tried running the camera off the wires for my trailer plug yet as the …

I got lumbered with a ZD30 2 weeks ago with a zd30 engine, the guy told me the noise at the front of the engine was just the belt squealing and handed me a new belt. after replacing the belt and the tensioner pulley the noise stopped for about 30 minutes then started again. If I spray anything on the belt the noise stops or is reduced to almost stopped, It is embarrassing to drive, the squealing is so loud, if I'm lucky after the engine has warmed up the noise is almost gone when the engine is idling. I have an alternator here given to me when I bought a converted zd30 about 2 years ago, so am going to try swapping alternators around to see if that make a difference as th…

Hi ! I resently dropped my 2002 GU 4.2 in a bug hole and got the cold start timer wet. The pre heat light kept going on and off on my way home. Then hard to start for the next 4 days. Got a new timer fitted. (After market). Car was ok for two days but this morning it struggled to start, ran rough and blow white smoke until it warmed up. Is this a possible glow plug fail ??

For those who wish to try higher boost levels without limp on their ZD30, particularly if you have a blocked EGR where you will see an elevation of MAF voltages (in comparison to unblocked EGR). This is the method I employed, my target being 18psi. I mounted the control box on the dash beside my ECUTalk, using double sided tape, see last pic as to reasons. Numerous experiments had shown that upon reaching a MAF value of 3.98v under 3000 rpm would send the Troll to limp, I will go into this a little more in the second part. I purchased a Diesel Smart Fuel Cut Defender 2 (FCD2) from Rocket Industries. This device clips and holds the MAF voltage at a set-point to be deter…

If so how did you fix it, what was the problem? Cheers

  21. Started by geeyoutoo,

I hate drilling holes in a perfectly good car and I wanted the ECUTalk in plain view for analysing purposes. I got hold of some 3mm smokey polycarbonate from a signmaker cut it to shape and bent it using my wifes Craft heat gun, Using alcohol wipes I cleaned the area thoroughly (I use Arnorall) so my double sided tape would secure the polycarbonate piece in place, been there for some time now and still stuck like the proverbial s*** to a blancket. To get the cable through I just lowered the steering wheel as far as it would go and there was plenty of room to pass through. This bit of equipment has been invaluable in my understanding many of the ECU habits (including…

  22. Hi all, Iv'e been scouring the forums to no avail so any help would be greatly appreciated. I went to start the vehicle this morning (2005 TD42ti DX cab chassis.) and found the glow light and engine light didn't illuminate when I turned the key, and when I started the engine (it wasn't a hard start) I had no tacho or air con (ac blows but not cold). When I came back from work and tried again, everything worked, but I had another go this arvo and nothing again. I have- Checked all ac, meter, air con etc. fuses next to the steering wheel and swapped around all the blue relays above said fuses. checked the earths near the dipstick and swapped the relays around…

Dumb question but when replacing the air filter for the first time since I got the car last year, I notice that there is a tube in the middle of it which seems to go no where, What is its purpose? Do I need to block it off for my snorkel properly? Thank in advance

Hi guys, Been trying to find answers with ongoing problems, initially had suspected MAF issue with little to no acceleration, replaced MAF and acceleration was back now having fault codes for air flow and ICV % which is down to an alarming 8% but spike up to 100% at times all over the place. I am preparing myself for a new injector pump if needed, but just interested in the wider patrol communities thoughts on this problem, any other cheaper fixes out there I can try first. I am unsure what the ICV % was before my issues as I've only just got my ECUTalk when my first fault code presented. Thanks in Advance any info greatly appreciated. Dan
