  1. So I'm going to be in Melbourne tomorrow to fix some stuff .. joy oh joy.. are there any big 4wd shops between the airport and south Melbourne that would be worth a look if I have some spare time?
  2. Isn't there a law that says you are supposed to slow down to a certain speed when going past emergency vehicles that have their lights on? Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  3. Ok, this is just a scratch area to keep ideas on building my rear recovery point. Once its built and confirmed to not kill anyone ill post it in the Recovery Points Thread. The Problem: The Telstra bar on the back of my GU doesn't have a hayman Reece hitch, so i cannot use the normal recovery insert. Make something stronger. The investigation: I took the tow pintle off and was happy to see that the bolt layout is the standard for 4 bolt tow hitches. The tow hook that was fitted on the back step fit fine, however i need something much stronger. So i ended up with something like this until i work out the new recovery point. I have seen a couple online, and maybe ill find one at an auction, but im thinking of getting something like this made (yes i suck at google sketchup) I have seen these online - but they are very expensive! Maybe get something like this and weld it on? My mate is a certified welder http://cgi.ebay.com....atchlink:top:en There is also this, but i dont know how good it is http://www.ebay.com....=item27b68f7ff7 How about this? Still working on this, stay tuned................
  4. I'm looking at getting some rear bolt on recovery points made (i dont have a hayman reece towbar, ive removed the pintle which gives me a standard NATO 4 bolt pattern to bolt to). Would the OP like me to post details here or start another thread? I don't want to spam your thread unnecessarily.
  5. New thread here... Ill be sussing it out, if you cant make this trip - we can organise another trip once it officially opens.
  6. The guys at 4x4 Earth have organised a trip to the new 4x4 property that we have all been waiting for to open, before it officially opens! I have been on a few trips with these guys and they are keen 4wders with 4wd's from standard to pretty heavily modified. Every trip i have been on has been well organised, and the people attending have been friendly and helpful. It promises to be a great weekend, You can either go up for a day, or camp out on the property (ill be swagging it near a fire i reakon!) Please post your attendance here in this thread, and if you can head over to the link below and introduce yourself as a common courtesy. Lets get these SA Patrols out on the tracks!! http://www.4x4earth.com.au/forum/south-australia/18164-hopes-gully-4x4-near-gawler.html
  7. Need a few more patrols to come and even the numbers out.. ill post a topic in the trips section
  8. Cheers, I'll start a new thread when I make mine up. Your advice might have saved me some damage or injury, thanks!
  9. I'm going to that property in a couple of weeks with another forum who has been invited up before it opens to make some tracks etc... Anyone interested in coming all along pm me for details.. should be good.. will do a report for here if u can't come along...
  10. If u want a rear bumper and towbar to put on it when u sell it let me know (plus some cash for your bar )
  11. I've been skull dragged up a beach while bogged to the sills by it before (had no other option at the time) but haven't snatched from it.. can use it as a base template to get something made up I guess.. Cheers for the advice.
  12. Took tow pintle off and replaced with recovery hoop. Planning to replace that with a thick plate that bolts on and has another plate welded in the middle at 90degrees which has a hole for a rated shackle. I don't trust that hoop so it has to go. I'll post pics in DIY as we make it (prob next weekend) Took of grill bug screen and repainted it Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  13. crazily enough the hoop fitted on the pintle mount.. replaced bolts with high tensile Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  14. That is pretty damn cool. I wish i had the skills to build something like that. If you ever go to make v3 and want to sell v2 ill drive over and buy it!
  15. Pm sent Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  16. Pm sent about price Opposite lock, roadrunner offroad and arb sell them. Arb didn't have any stock (and were $$$) OL are local and slightly cheaper than RROR so I got them from there with all the other gear. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  17. Cheers Ray. Being that I never tow anything I might remove the pintle and I'll see if the local Fab shop (wasp4x4) can make something substantial up to go there...would love to use your idea but I can see half my leg (or dog) hanging off it as it would be there permanently. *edit removed use of the hoop after reading next post Cheers,
  18. Whoops I forgot I started this thread and put photos elsewhere. I ended up getting dome gear from OL today (winch extension strap, drag chain, pulley, blanket and some recovery points) i be all ready got a good snatch strap and a few other bits and pieces like long handle shovel, ground anchor, and high lift jack. Forgot to get a tree trunk protector and bridle but I'll go back and get them.. Yeah recovery points are not rated, no one seems to do them. The ones I got were pretty hard core, I'll put some other pics up tomorrow of the block etc if I remember Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  19. That is a great idea! I've ordered a pile of 12v - 5v @ 2A USB adapters, I might mount a couple inside there for the kids to plug phones etc into! Awesome! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  20. Looks good Ray. If I didn't have a pintle I'd do that for sure. I have these two big pins on either side of my pintle, they look pretty hard core. Do you think they could be used (with rated shackles and a bridle) as a recovery point? Agree about chains, I'd maybe use a chain to equalise while winching, but not while snatching. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  21. I saw them (the hooks) in OL today and asked about them as I'd also seen them included in an online promotion. The advice I was given was that they are only to be used on special bars (Xrox?) As tow points, not for winching and certainly not for snatching. The clip is to hold the tow rope eye in place when coasting... I can't validate that advice authoritivley but when you look at it and how it mounts compared to the OP's plate recovery point it makes sence.. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  22. I spoke with him (pinacle Wholesalers) when i bought all my gear on the phone. He said he gets the gear from the same place as ARB, but ARB just put their sticker on it and sell it for more. They might also order different color material. I got mine a couple of years ago now, the awning has been on the car the whole time and while it has a few scratches and stuff from being treated pretty ordinarily on the side of the Patrol, it has held up well. No tears or bends, zip in cover still works well. From what im seeing on the roofs of 4wd's, the rooftop tents are getting thinner. Mine isnt too bad unless i have the annexe and bedding in there.. Good luck, shop around and i hope you get a bargain! If you are after Ironman i think OL have them, so does the other dave at bordertrek (no affiliation, just bought stuff from them before and got good service) And... because you dont have one yet, here is a few pics of what you have in store...

I seem to have a thing under my name now saying "0 warning posts" have i been naughty(er)?
  25. I bought mine from this guy on ebay http://stores.ebay.com.au/PINNACLE-WHOLESALERS/CAMPING-BOATING-EQUIPMENT-/_i.html?_fsub=152477015&_sid=48942345&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 I also got my rooftop tent from him. When i put mine next to my mates who got his from ARB noone can tell the difference (apart from the sticker, and his wallet is lighter).. Mine goes from the front of my snorkel to the back of the car, heaps of room for he swag or people to huddle under while waiting for the Patrol meet up to start
