Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)
Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

I installed a projector battery monitor on tuesday, today the alam in it went off saying it was pumping 15.2 volts, I spoke to my auto elecy and he said the alternator was stuff so I bought a new one today, it is rated at putting out a max of 14.7 V, After a short drive when everything warmed up the alarm went off again saying it was putting out over 15 V. I call the sparky back on of the guys there said to check to make sure there wasnt a blown fuse, then he told me to pull the 2 wire plug out of the back of the alternator and put a test light on eash terminal in the plug, he said one should light the test light up bright the other should be dim, I did as he said one wir…

Can some one tell me where to find the module that I can tap into to install an after market alarm with remote central locking in a 2000 GU, as the "fobs" that came with the car ceased to work properly the other day, some times they will lock but not lock, other times wont unlock but will lock. I know the batteries are probably just going flat but was intending on putting in this DEI alarm system in anyway, can see the wiring diagrams in the manual but can find any reference to the module or where it is locatedAny help appreicated

I recently had the EGR blocked and a DAwes valve fitted by a reputable company. At steady speeds between 90 and 115 km/h (2,500 to 3,000 RPM) I get intermittent limp mode, suggesting over boost. I took it backj to them and they reckon they can't fix it. I will be persisting until they do, but in the mean time .... any suggestions?

Hello all, Just joined here and looks like a great site with loads of info. You guys are lucky here that the Patrols are quite plentiful. In South Africa, Nissan didn't put much effort into keeping the Patrol brand up where it should and the Land Cruiser took 1st place..... unfortunately Buy hey.... I still believe the Patrol is the best vehicle for all environments. Just some pics of my Iron Maiden I also belong to the South African Patrol forum you are welcome to visit if you want....... www.patrol4x4.co.za

Hello I have a new Y61 Patrol ST Titanium limited edition. Auto model. Only done 1200 klms First two tank refills of 80 litres each got only 473 and 479 kilometres respectively. I was horrified with this result. Have only done general around town running but do not flog the vehicle. In addition, I am getting a wirring/whoosing noise coming from the engine bay. The Nissan mechanise isolated it to the turbo charger, recorded the noise and has sent it to Nissan engineers to hear. Could a turbo charger problem be a cause for the high fuel consumption? I am not a mechanical person so any comment/ advice would be appreciated. Toucan PS: I have also p…

Hi Guys, I am new to the forum and would like to ask a question regarding the following. I have a 91 GQ 3 ltr Patrol which has died and have acquired a 98 TB45E-Y61 motor as a replacement. This is firstly to give me extra power under the hood as the 3 ltr just don't cut it for the work I do. I am wondering if anyone out there knows how to connect the ECU module to the GQ system?? Thanks Wally

I was checking over the car a while ago and notice that the actuator rod had come off the arm. I didn't realise I should've unplugged th vacuum hose to make moving the arm easier. Anyway I had to unscrew to get it back on. I've lost where it should be. Since then I've installed needle and Dawes but no matter what I do I can't get it to spool up under 2000rpm. I tow a van everyday so I need more low down... Any help would be great.

Guys, I'm at a loss currently. I'll give the specs as is and see if anyone has some info that'll help. Ok I have a 2012 model y61. Roughly 50,000ks on the clock. Now i bought this car knowing full well the former issues with it. I've tried to take all steps to avoid the dramas ive had in the past. Too date i have installed a 3' stainless exhaust from redback, which i think is a good product, over the factory setup it really help with the motors performance. Coupled with that i fitted a set of Autron Gauges. EGT/ BOOST and dual battery gauge. Here's where the problem arises. To my knowledge I have the egt probe installed correctly and the gauges don't need…

I'm looking at upgrading my GQ Petrol TB42S to a GU in the future, My budget wont permit upgrading to a 4.2, so will be limited to a 2.8 or a 3.0. I've heard and read pro's and con's for both, but more people and mechanic are recommending me getting a 3.0 as opposed to a 2.8, they say the 2.8 was around only for 4 years before the 3.0 which has been around for over 12 years now, the biggest concern with the 3.0 is the "grenade" title it has due to it blowing up and or melting pistons 3 and 4. From what I've been reading etc, blocking off the EGR is number one job and installing a catch can is number two job, some people and forums are saying installing dawes valves etc, b…
