Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)

Sixth generation in Australia, introduced in 1999 as the GU Patrol. A long-running and iconic model, with production for the Australian market ending around 2016 (though it continued elsewhere globally until 2023). Early models had a 4.5L petrol inline-six (TB45) or 2.8L turbo-diesel (RD28), later replaced by the 3.0L turbo-diesel (ZD30) and 4.8L petrol (TB48). Updates (e.g., GU Series II in 2001) refined engines and interiors. Available in wagon, cab-chassis, and ute configurations.

Just wondering what economy liters/100kms I've got Arab roof basket - 285/75/16 m/t - genuine bull bar and genuine snorkel. I used to get around 800km on the main tank with would net me roughly 200 pet quarter. Now I am only getting 400-500 around town with all the accessories. I'm thinking about taking roof basket off and seeing if it gives me some filuel economy back. Any thoughts Dan

Hi Guys, Thinking of replacing the DMF with SMF over the Christmas break. Have had a quick look at the access to the gearbox bellhousing to engine bolts. All the lower ones and the ones for the starter motor are easy to get at but the top 2 are hard to touch never mind get a socket on them. Just wondered if you remove the gear box cross member and lower the gearbox therefore letting the engine tilt backwards is there enough room to get at the top 2 bellhousing bolts withg a socket, wobbly and extension. Anyone. Happy Christmas to ALL. Cheers TaffWest

Stupid Newby mistake. Pulled head off 180 out and it was not marked when cams came out and the idler pully has been spun around as well so i think i am in a spot of bother. I had my head checked and it was not cracked and pressure tested fine, ( he did say there were some minor cracks but they are not causing any dramas ) valves are all seating fine so he is decking it and i will get a new thicker gasket and new bolts and new gasket and slap it back together. When i put head back on how can i make sure the cams are in the right position and also get the idler pully back in the right position. When i took timing chain off i cable tied it to both pulleys so it has …

Hey guys. I've just brought myself a 2002 patrol 3lt series III and I'm considering doing the nads mod! Is it worth doing? And does anyone have any suggestions on who I should get to do it? Cheers

  8. Anyone received one of these safety recalls in the post in the last couple of days? I have a 2008 CRD (ZD30). Appears to be accelerator sending incorrect signal to ECM and resulting in vehicle going into "Failsafe mode" Limp? I have hade the vehicle a couple of years now and never experienced the problem. I think the pedal mechanism drives/turns a type of Potentiometer that sends a variable signal/electrical charge to the ECM. Anyone know anything about this? All The Best TaffWest

Hi. This is my first post as a new member. I was hoping someone could tell me what this cable does, It is a Fig 8 cable running from a plug at the front of the Intercooler, Taped together, One lead is connected to the glow plug running out the rear towards the Firewall. And this is where it gets strange as it is cable tied to the pipes it looks like an add on and runs to a screw connector and taped up and connected to nothing. The car runs fantastic so Iam hesitant to remove it, But I would like to know to neaten up the cabling or find out what it does. I hope someone can tell me. I have taken some photos to help. Thanks

I have recently replaced the injectors in my 2008 Patrol, due to previous owners water contaminated fuel. The engine starts again and runs well but it has considerably less performance than before. I assume that this will be related to the trim of the injectors matching the ECU. I am seeking information on how the process works, what I need and where might I get it. (i.e. injector trim files) And can someone recommend a good diesel service centre around Rockhampton who would be able to do the matching? I have blocked the EGR and added a Dawes and manual boost trim, these are working correctly, but this makes me reluctant to take it to the local NIssan dealer…

Hi, Over the weekend I flushed my cooling system on ZD30 patrol GU3. I did a lot of reading about air bubbles in the system and was very careful when refilling to get all of the air out. or at least I hope I was. Took the car for a drive to Wollongong ( I live in Sydney ) and back on Saturday night. Knowing I had just done a coolant change my eyes were on the temp gauge more than the road and it did not seem to move at all on the journey. My eyes were particularly glued to it when I was coming up Bulli pass. Drove all then way up in 4th at 80 and it chugged all the way up with no apparent issues. Got in the car to go somewhere at 8 the next morning and started…

Hello, Have finally come to my senses and decided to buy a patrol. Budget is 20K. I have been doing alot of reading about the 3.0 issues in the early days and why the 4.2 is a much better choice but have decided for my needs an 05/06 3.0dt model manual ST will be perfect. Minimal towing & will be used around sydney as well as long trips etc etc. Had a look at one today, 05 with 180 000 on the clock. One Lady owner. Service history. Brand new tyres. Advertised with 13 months rego. The Lady did not know how to put it in 4wd and said she had never taken 4wding. Looked underneath and as far as i could see it has done little to know 4wding, verifying what she h…

Hi guys, Anyone know enough about the sub tank system on the GU so I can get rid of the darn instrument cluster LED warning? I've removed the transfer pump (because I don't need it) and it now has illuminated. Obviously it's smart enough to know it's gone. Will disconnecting the controller unit inside the centre console going to work? Any better ideas? Cheers

  21. The Flywheel on my 2008 CRD seems to be groaning at certain RPM under load (vibration-noise). Everything has to get pretty hot before the issue becomes obvious. I will have to change the flywheel and the clutch at some time in the future and i wondered if anyone had fitted a single (solid) mass flywheel instead of the standard dual mass flywheel. I believe there are some trade offs. Do the benefits outway the negatives? Would anyone recomend fitting the solid flywheel? Cheers TaffWest

I ran out of diesel. So i put in 10 litres, primed the fuel filter by pumping it and undid the nut underneath. After a long time i finally kicked it over. Anyay i let it run for a while then pushed the accelarator and nothing happened, actually it started to splutter then stalled. So i did the nut back up underneath and primed it again.. Now it wont start at all. Suggestions? Should i go get another fuel filter

Hey guys my old man has a 2000 model 4.2 wagon, and he's been having problems with it lately. We recently went on a trip to our farm out at stanthorpe, and it was fine on the way there all good and driving around all the very hilly country all low range work. Not a problem, but on the way home I started missing and coughing and it wouldn't rev above 2500 rpm, so if you changed back down a gear to go up a hill it wouldn't rev at all. So we pulled over changed the fuel filter. Off we went was ok for a bit but still doing it. But problem and basically gone. We went put there again the weekend just gone, and the thing started doing it again. So we changed the filter again got…
