heyhey's GU Wagon
Thought my Wagon needed a thread! haha Here it is Its a 2000 ZD30 GU, I thought it was a good buy had done 210,000km but had a rebuilt engine 20,000km before so heaps cheaper than buying one with a few less kms but having to rebuild in a few more kms. Anyway, it came pretty much standard apart from electric trailer brakes, UHF and a hyclone. <=Awesome ... not! Then added: 33" BFGoodrich KM2s Procomp Alloy Wheels Steel Genuine Bullbar Pioneer Stereo, Speakers, Amp and MTX Subwoofer HID Lightforce Suspension stuff flexy 2"

Trouble with Patrol 4x4.com
There were no plans for a take over, there have been numerous offers for a buy out from the owner, but he refused many an offer. Its a damn shame to see JET-6 chuck in the towel, but there comes a time when you know you have to step aside and let it takes its own course. RIP Patrol4x4.com, your content and friends will surely be missed!

Recovery Kit ideas.
I have a mixed kit 2 x ARB snatch straps as I have found them to be the most wear resistant and longest lasting with much and crud on them 3 x 4.7t bow shakles, I have three for use when using the HiLift as a puller 1 x Ironman trunk protector, doesn't really matter what brand, just get the cheapest highest rated one you can 1 x Ironman winch extension strap, once again, doesn't really matter what brand, just get the cheapest highest rated one you can 1 x Snatch block, I have an ARB poly one for the rope in my winch. I also have a spare greaseable steel one that I have never used. Don't know why I carry it really A real shovel Highlift jack and a piece of wood for underneath the jack foot (so it doesn't sink). Drag chain And my lastest addition is a 2t chain lever hoist (silimar to a come-a-long or what ever those POS things are called). Recovery hitch in the rear Winch up the front Pretty full on, but I have the space and have used every piece (minus the steel snatch block) multiple times, from recovering bogged Mercs for RACV (Royal Auto Club Vic) to recovering myself, to recovering my mates Cruisers, recovering rolled 4wds for down steep roadside embankments to even recovering my old mans 7t International Drott from track deep black mud. I just need a ground anchor and there will be no recovery I cannot do (maybe)

Forum Features
Hi Admin, Just wondering if it would be possible to neaten up some of these Forum descriptions. They are somewhat in accurate. See below: Nissan Patrol Y62 - Title is fine, no need to touch. The description is wrong, still unreleased in Aus, could be reworded a little nicer Nissan Patrol GU/GR - In title, need to get rid of GR and replace with Y61, GRs were also GQ/Y60 it was just some random tag they added on for no purpose at all for Patrols in Europe. Description is ok. It should be noted that this includes Safari models (in lieu of Patrol) Nissan Patrol GQ/Y60 & Ford Maverick - Title is ok, description mentions GR, this is just like calling a Patrol a Patrol, all European Patrols had GR, it is not model specific and IMO doesn't need to be there as in Europe they were still known as Y60. It should be noted that this includes Safari models (in lieu of Patrol) Nissan Patrol MQ/MK - Title needs to be "MQ/160 series & MK/260 series", the numerical model codes are more widely known (as is Y60, Y61, Y62), this will need to be reflected in description. Also MQ(160) and MK(260) are not really the same thing, but similar enough to have share a forum. Nissan Safari - This is not accurate as the title of Safari and the description of G60, L60, etc are not Safari models. The title should be "Nissan Patrol 60 series" and the Description should be left as is. Also, I like the idea of having the engine models (ZD30CRD, ZD30DI, TD42 (all variations), RD28, TB48, TB45, TB42, SD33 (all variations), etc) having their own sub forums. People wanting to know about a ZD30CRD could be confused with discussion of DI, this mau or may not be an issue, but as they are quite dissimilar in operation, although architectually similar, they are not the same and information may be confused. But this suggestion is probably excessive for an issue that is easily controlled by posters putting in the information about the particular engine model they are talking about. I'll keep updating this as I find suggestions, hahah, seriously though, it is pretty spot on, a couple tweaks here and there in the early days will make things simpler for the future and be easier to change before there are more threads, posts and members. Cheers,

CRD injectors
Hi All, I'm just curious as to how expensive CRD injectors are? Swap over or buy out new. It is the weekend so I can't ask Nissan, but curious never the less. Cheers,

Winch size for 4.2TD
I had an XD9000 on my GU, no worries, most reliable winch I've owned. Although it had less rating than my 12,000lb Tigerz11, it never BROKE, it burnt out an old solenoid from spending a few hours winching, was full of mud and shit, but the Warn never stopped. The 12,000lb Tigerz11 on the other hand, one not so heavy pull (stuck on slick hard pack clay) and it busted the drive coupling from the motor to the gearbox. Absolute true blue piece of chinese crap. Warranty was poo and I never looked back, Warn and happy. Well, until I lent the Warn to a mate, didn't get it back, modified the Tigerz11 with Aldi 9,500lb internals and have been using it ever since (about 12 months). The Aldi Brake slips sometimes but still pulling with the heavier duty Aldi internals.

Y62
No flex = Substitute with diff locks (unless it is an Australian Market where they'll likely be used, abused and claimed on Warranty)

That IMO is advertising a business, I can appreciate that the cost of registering as a vendor may not be worth it, but your putting a detail up for a business your connected to and gaining from.

Forum Features
In a perfect world it would be good, I haven't added or even looked for a section in submitting a new thread for adding tags, but I think if we can tag a thread with keywords, it would be a little more useful. If we have too many sections, information that could be useful to others in another section wouldn't be seen. Ie, if you write something about a Coil/Leaf ute, and it is also relevant to a Coil/Coil ute, how will the Coil/Coil ute people know it has been posted and contribute or when searching, see it? Just my 2c

Can you cut an antenna?
Brett, what are these base attachments you speak of? Are they quick to use? Sooty_10, So you lost 60-100mm on yours and it still transmitts and receives ok? Interesting.

Can you cut an antenna?
mk tank - It is a GME 4705. I also have a small whip (think its like 1.5db and about 150mm tall including base). Connections for the 4705 and the GME radio are standard and unchanged. It just doesn't work as well as the Uniden with the 1.5db whip for closer proximity chat.

Can you cut an antenna?
Hi Folks, I have a GME 4705 and it is just that bit too high for my garage. I was wondering if I could trim a bit off the top and reduce the height. BUT if I do this I'm afraid it will detune it and make it pretty crap (not that it is overly good anyway). Otherwise I need a really heavy duty antenna that is between 4.5 and 6db and 700-1000mm high. Need to be used for a mix of flat and hilly driving (mostly hills). Cheers,

UHF Antenna Gain
Just one thing, with dbi, do you take 2.15 'OFF' the dbi value for db? I think you may have a letter missing ie, "of" instead of 'off'. Otherwise good contribution

Best Shocks?
Don't know anything else at the moment, but they will be priced quite reasonably, at this stage they won't be avaliable for a while Watch this space

Winch Control Box Covers
Drill a hole in the base to allow water to escape, easier to allow it to exit than stop it entering

Best Shocks?
There was a thread on Amadas being under engineered on the old forum, Old Mand Emu (OME) sound like they have a good product and I was chatting to Shane from Suspension Stuff yesterday and he mentioned his is bringing out his own brand of Remote Res Shocks in a few weeks. I have dibs on a set and will see how they perform. Straight up the high country then out for the forum meet and we'll see what they are like.

Snatch Strap Hitch
Nice Ray, Another add-on you could do is weld some wings onto the bar going through the box section to retain the strap (kind of like that little plate bit at the end of the front transport hook) when crossing rivers or driving with it mounted for quick use.

Winch Control Box Covers
I have my Tigerz11 control box in the engine bay, has been there since day dot, problem is its not a problem of water getting in, its getting it out. Personally I think you have fat chance of stopping the water from entering.
