Can people give me real world fuel economies they get from their 4.8's
Around town = 11.5-12.3L highway = 11.7-14.5L off road bush =12.5-14L off road sand = 18L best ever = 11.3L worst ever = 35km/29L

I was wondering about that too, almost deleted that post thinking it was spam but I'm waiting patiently what will develop. Regards

Auto Transmission and water crossings
If the dipstick has a seal/ rubberised collar than it will not allow water to get in. If it unsealed than the option of tapping it up shut with gaffa tape is cheaper alternative or perhaps a rubber cover (condom like or a cut off finger/thumb section of the thick rubber glove) slipped over the dipstick and its tube would certainly do the job too. Cheers

Decent mechanic in the Perth Area.
G'day mate, welcome to the forum. Robson bros have a good name or see Matt from UFI. As you already own GU with TD42 I wonder why are you interested in CrD ZD30 GU. CrD ZD30 have a few issues to look out for namely fuel eco, oil pump failures, exhaust manifold cracking and all the other previous GU's issues which you should already be familiar with and since 05 add the pimply dash syndrome. Cheers

3.0 Air Filter Fitment
The foam seal up, rubber lip down is Nissan AU official line. I tried both ways, got more dust in with foam seal down actually. Cheers

Automatic Aerial mods
I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be that hard as the aerial retracts when cd mode is selected too so it is just a matter of measuring what signals go where and than replicating the results via external switch. Regards

Fuel consumption and turbo charger noise on new 2014 Patrol ST auto
G'day mate, That fuel consumption works out to be around give or take 17 L/100 which seems to be standard eco on a few CrD Y61 Patrols. Some are even worse and Nissan is washing their hands of it, always the owners fault by fitting accessories, having lead foot, overloading, towing and generally anything the owners would do but Nissan's issue. Just in case you wanted to hear it all ==> crd bad fuel economy discussion thread all 51 pages of it. Faulty turbocharger can increase fuel consumption especially if it is also associated with poor performance. Now this needs to be read in context of the fail, basically turbochager failing to reach its operating boost pressures because either the operating controls malfunction (vacuum leaks for example), leaks (exhaust or induction side), incorrect adjustment or lack of fuel injected which is than another area of problems. At this stage Ni$$an will be reluctant to even consider your poor eco complaint because of low km travelled. Welcome to the Ni$$an customer service, you will not be pleased. Since the vehicle is under warranty make sure to make noise and if needed get consumer affairs involved. I hope they'll fix it for you but have little confidence after reading that Nissan mechanic recorded the noise and sent it to engineers to do what exactly? To weasel out of fixing it under warranty terms by telling you that nothing is wrong or that because you have a tow bar, roof rack, bullbar and spot ligths the fuel eco is affected and you will have to pay to have them removed to test/disprove such claims. I kid you not, a Ni$$an stealer tried to weasel out of such cases before with those claims. You will be lucky to achieve combined figure around 12-13L/100 km under the 'running in' conditions and with extra accessories fitted. The noise could also be a leak on exhaust manifold or turbo base flange (very common but on brand new vehicle is a bit odd) It could also be the induction side where boost leak could cause whistling noise under load. Any mechanic worth his toolbox should be able to identify these causes pretty quickly without needing some engineering monkey to advise. I'm sorry this is probably not what you want to hear but incompetence of Ni$$an st$alers and their staff is legendary. Good luck

ZD30 loss of power.
Westy, Scangauge is only for CrD models 07 onwards. The only thing the OP could use is ECU Talk software and appropriate interface/cable to connect to Consult II port unless of course he has an access to actual Nissan scan unit. Cheer

What did you do to your GQ today!
You made sure they were used alright, LOL. No more vibrations I suppose.... Cheers

Merry Xmass and happy New Year 2015
Indeed, where did the year go? Nope, no plans, wifey works so twiddling my thumbs while dreaming of going somewhere.... like thinking high country...or West coast somewhere. Cheers

Wow, that's one good looking winch bar. Did you make it yourself? That is brilliant workmanship. Cheers

Seats
Personally, I think you will find that those seats will not have anything better than just two point seatbelts at best probably none is the case. Looking at specs it seems that bench/3rd row side facing seats were Middle East/Gulf states issue. If it is military style bench than there will be no seatbelts. You could pick seatbelt mounting points where the actual seat itself is mounted as long as those anchor points bolts exceed dia 10 mm

RE4R03A Nomad valve body overhaul
That shed looks better equiped then my workplace. Thanks for sharing, its my dream to have a decent worshop/man cave alas not possible at my current residence and I'm tired of changing to another place and all the hassles associated with that. Regards

RE4R03A Nomad valve body overhaul
Crikey, that doesn't even look like a "shed job" for sure. Last time I rebuilt BW35 it took 3 tries to get it right and than it broke again.... I had never ever owned auto tranny shifted car since! That was enough experience. Good info though, looking forward to read about the next step. Cheers

GU motor grenade
Auto tranny in GU is much better then in GQ but the converter lock up clutch mod and a bit sharper gear changing via line poressure resistor mod will make it much better. Cheers

ZD30 loss of power.
Mate, it is all guess work but what boost pressure do you get up to? It is fairly common on early ZD30 vintage that they have vacuum leak in either hosees or the vac cylinder/reservoir so turbo vanes will not open fully. You can check it easily by starting the engine and at idle see if turbo actuator lifts up against the stop bolt and stays there not fluctuating up/down. If it doesn't bypass all the vac reservoir lines and connect a hose directly to the actuator. Regards

GU motor grenade
Yes it is preferable but you want to have the catch can and EGR shim in before cleaning manifold so it stays clean. ZD30 is much better suited to automatic transmission but auto box has its own problems. Knowing what I do now I'd think twice before going for GU Patrol with ZD30 but the others aren't any better so it is like: do I stab myself in the left or right eye? The sad fact is that I wouldn't know which one to buy anymore as each has some crappy problems with expensive fixes. Cheers

A top new site, you4wd.com
I have completely forgotten about that site. Thanks for bringing it up again. Regards

Hmh, planning to do some hell raising stuff or just fond of carrying 40+ kg dead weight in front of your fourby. IMHO, I'd invest in touring capabilities or creature comforts. Cheers

Seats
Yes, it does bolt straight in (extra mounting holes are under the carpet). You will need the bracket which bolts the seat (RHS back) on the ute to the wagon floor. You will also need extra seat belts bits which will bolt on to existing seat belts mounting points. See the pics. The middle seat will only have lap belt. Cheers

coolant leaking from expansion tank
G'day, Welcome to the forum. The question is, how much pressure are you applying and if the pressure cap unloads it will leak coolant to expansion chamber which is vented to atmo freely so where exactly is the leak? There is a hose leading from the pressure tank to expansion tank so any coolant leaking past the cap seal will flow through the hose in to expansion section Some photos would be better at telling the story. Anyway make sure that pressure cap is on the pressure tank and non pressure cap is on radiator. Regards

won't start, cranks ok.
Well either there is another fuse blown somewhere, or the short caused some voltage spike somewhere with predictable consequence. Does MIL work and is glow plugs light/indicator briefly ON after the ignition is turned ON? If not than ECU is not being powered or worse. Regards
