- Help??
Firstly is this manual transmission or automatic? It is not by any chance neutral switch on the transmission playing up? Secondly, nothing screams more: "electrical fault" like this scenario, there is something (cable, plug etc) loose in the engine bay I reckon especially if it starts and runs well for 15-20 minutes. As everything heats up it also expands so to me I'd be checking for loose connectors, plugs, even loose battery cables ground especially. The issue with 3 mechanics gets me though, embarrassing comes to mind. What kind of morons????? I'd be checking following: Battery leads/cables, alternator leads/cables, injection pump plug, engine earths/grounds. if all is well there than I'll be checking body earthing/grounding as on Y61 (Patrol) it is poorly implemented and subject to easy fail. Once these basics are established I'd be checking engine vitals to see what is happening: So when it happens does the engine smokes? Misfires, running rough at idle or is it just not revving up in neutral first? Is it hard to start if turned off and restarted again immediatelly? I'd observe accelerator pedal voltages, MAF voltages in both at idle and free revving then see if I can drive it. I'd observe turbo actuator moving upwards once engine is started.... Methodically I'd eliminate possible cause..... Regards- Got a problem with my Drivers windows when cold
No, early ones didn't have that in Oz, but how Nissan specced for other markets I'm not sure. I looked at Australian version and couldn't find any other change after 2001. Regards- New member from VIC
G'day mate, Welcome to the forum, feel free to make yourself at home in here and share your experiences. Regards- ECUTalk Install
KIWI 3 is pure OBD2 adapter which means it will not work with Nissan vehicles which use Consult 1 and 2 interface and protocol. While Patrol GU4 series uses what what looks like OBD2 plug that as far as it goes, the protocol is still Nissan Consult 2. Patrol Y61 vehicles sold after 2007 in Australia and equipped with common rail version of ZD30 engine have OBD2 plug and use OBD2 protocol so KIWI3 adapter will work with those. ECU Talk will not so you can't compare those two. Regards- Lost tacho, air con, engine light and glow light?
- Got a problem with my Drivers windows when cold
Mate, it appears you have a problem with the "interuption detection logic" aka anti-pinch function. Possibly your window winder is putting up extra resistance when cold and that causes the controller to activate the function in auto mode. Or the limit switch is dodgy. You can reset the system apparently. See bellow: Reset switch is a part of the winder.- Lost tacho, air con, engine light and glow light?
G'day mate, The common thing is the ignition switch to all those unless you've missed the particular fuses. Check the plugs under the steering covers just in case. Regards- Computer related information
For those who have an account on other auto forums sites its time to check your settings and maybe change passwords ==> Hackers steal 45 million accounts from hundreds of Verticalscope car tech forums Thats what they get running the cheap shows by outdated insecure software. So when p4x4.com runs on ==> "Many of the forums ran versions of vBulletin software dating back to 2007. Most were running software versions that were easily exploitable by hackers with known vulnerabilities. A blog post from security reporter Brian Krebs from 2013 showed that older versions of the vBulletin forums that were vulnerable could be easily searched with readily-available attack tools." No one should be really surprised..... Cheers- Heat fighting
Well for manual tranny I think you are out of luck for oil cooler then, unless the unit has oil pump which would circulate the oil through heat exchanger of some kind. As for The Desert Coolers, Google is your friend....- Heat fighting
G'day, Search "Desert Coolers" for custom radiator, I'd line transmission tunnel and firewall with heat insulating matting. Most if not all auto trannies require oil cooler so there should be provision for those lines there..... Regards- Vibrating sound?
Chit, that's just funny.....anyway sorry can't help you with that one as mine rattles all the time and I just learned to live with it, accepting that's part of owning Japanese POS! You could also check the exhaust mounts and or engine mounts. Regards- Computer related information
Post all your computers or IT in general related stuff in here: A bit old but still fascinating insight to NSA thinking in Untangling the Web A Guide to Internet Research document released recently under FOIR from Muckrock.com website.- Patrol Y62 exposed
Mate, that wasn't workshop manual anyway, it was technical presentation to Nissan dealerships staff. Basically 163 pages of overview of the Y62 features and changes to existing protocols and technology used etc, publisehed by Nissan training department. If you still interested then drop me a line and I'll email you some, its just 15 Mb pdf file. If you want actual workshop manual then search the net also for Infinity QX56 which is a sister model of Y62 ( indeed Nissan's way of introducing new Patrol which it isn't technically as Infinity brand has been around in US or over the decade....basically Y62 is rebadged US Infinity with some cosmetic changes.....LOL) there are some copies of those floating around for sure..... Regards- Buying a Patrol
G'day, ZD30 (engine in Y61 or Patrol) with automatic is better choice then with manual in most situations except downhill runs in off road scenarios. Engine is well matched to the auto box and unless there is a particular reason for wanting to manually steer the stick go for it. Cons: *only 3 speed plus overdrive, *torque converter lock up clutch system control (it should lock up torque converter sooner >80 km/h and in every gear) however that is easily fixed with aftermarket modification. *downhill braking is non existent unless above is applied or additional heavy duty shift control is installed big which is $$$ * not user maintenance friendly *expensive to repair Pros: Easy driving around town Great in sandy/soft surfaces conditions Regards- ECU Re-Map & 3" Exhaust
G'day mate, Welcome to the forum, could you elaborate on the ECU re-map? Cheers- My little War-Wagon
So, school me on what is an advantage having one of these fitted instead of a battery. Are you building an electric Patrol? Cheers- Air filter Box
Damn right! AC/DC at max volume. I drove 16 L turbo charged intercooled straight six with 610 ponies with 6" stack no muffler for an hour today, my head still hurts.... Regards- My little War-Wagon
Well, that's typical Nissan for you, the consensus is that assembly line just fitted what was supplied at the time by the line chasers, there really isn't any sense in it. Some have claimed that if ordered in advance one could specced ratios and types of axles that's why no Y61 is alike. Yours must Series 3 then as well, Nissan has stopped that nonsense from Series 4 (allegedly) e.g. ZD30 auto with 4.3 and TD42Ti and 4.11 for ZD30 manual apparently ...yeah right I so believe that. 4.3 diffs on 35's are actually not bad IMHO so no need to worry with diffs, but how do you go about not being legal? Braking performance will get affected for sure, especially with ZD30 models which have really chit brakes. Perhaps getting TB4.8 L model front brakes (calipers+pads) would improve the situation greatly.- Air filter Box
Just make sure it is straight through (no muffler) then you'll have some noise you are after but why? It makes no sense, it attracts unwanted attention and makes no difference to performance and is downright annoying after while .I ain't greenie either, it is not pleasant sitting in the vehicle for hours with loud exhaust for sure and I should know, have some experience in that, how about 19 L diesel V12 with straight through 6" pipes (can hear it .several kays away shifting gears.....or straight six 12 L turbo intercooled beast is enough after 20 mins especially with 7" exhaust pipe, all you can hear is turbo spooling up and droning during the cruising enough to give you massive headache within short period of time....Noise is a pollution not rock n' roll..... Its possibly different experience when you can actually have performance drive like on track or nice twisty hilly run in a sports car but in Patrol, LOL! Speaking of engine noises check this screamer out ==> 3.0 L flat 8 Porsche 908-3 its pure sex with your ears action!- My little War-Wagon
Pics? Yeah, I agree the 5th gear is useless but I wouldn't change the diff ratio for that indeed with 35's you probably going to get the revs just right but it will be a slow going (acceleration). Marks $WD adaptors (Y60 & Y61 5th gear set) make 0.74:1 gear set but OMFG @$1200 it is a bit of joke for 10% step however that would go nicely with 35's perhaps and 4.6:1 diffs with extra reduction gears (Low range 85% gear reduction set) for transfer thrown in for good measure. You can have some fun calculating ==> gear calculator I'd do it in the flash if the engine in these things was more reliable/dependable..... Regards- Howdy all
Yep, it can be quiet at times, mostly I guess. It is up to people make it tick so ....I've seen plenty of people signing up, posting 1 or 2 questions and then leaving never to come back, shame really. It was originally set up as a back up forum for p4x4.com when it experienced trouble in 2012 and the off chance of being lost for good before its eventual takeover by the Canadian Autoguide group which simply collects automotive forums for its portfolio which have completely ruined the forum itself IMHO, but hey some people don't get it. There is a lot of attitude and downright hostility over there too cause mods simply let the things float casually. There is no transparency either, the events prior the takeover where never really explained and there is this feel of some shadowy influence there too. I'm not impressed by them (Autoguide) and feel like exploited for cash only, it also lost its community feel too. Comparing all the existing Patrol forums, one is too feral (p4x4), another one has too much bromance (nissanpatrol) and this one too quiet. What usually ruins the forum is the general section where opinions about everything get pushed/trolled/abused..... I do like how 'whirlpool.net.au' forum is policed personally, no religious discussions of any type are allowed (cats vs dogs, ALP vs LNP, Holden vs Ford, Nissan vs Toyo or ZD30 vs TD42) no ego chit fights, no trolling, no abuse, no off the topic useless posts and no hiding the facts like deleted topics/posts. I suppose it is attended by a lot more professionals as well so it needs to keep high standards. Anyway, feel free to make a noise in here it is up to us to make it louder..... I do like the fact that mypatrol4x4 has modern interface, better tools for posting and much more liberal allowances for content then the original which is outdated, sluggish and outright crappy. Regards- Howdy all
G'day mate, Welcome to the forum, feel free to make yourself at home and share your experiences with Patrol or 4WD driving in general. Regards- Y61 passenger airbag inflator safety recall
Yeah that is the official explanation, I hope no more recalls as the experience waiting at Nissan service department is unpleasant. I do feel sorry for people who have to endure it. Regards - Pics of your Patrol in nice places...
